  1. KU is in first place in the Big 12 and has more wins than Nebraska, aTm, Texas, Notre Dame, LSU, Florida, and Oregon.
  2. Which KU player do you know?
  3. B1G would have to add a 16th school if they brought in KU, no? Do they save another current Big 12 school from irrelevance? Iowa State is in the AAU, for whatever that's worth, but that might ruffle Iowa's feathers. Maybe Colorado if the B1G wants to continue playing Manifest Destiny. This is all to say nothing of the fact that the current 14 B1G schools would definitely be seeing a minor hit to their per-school payouts by adding those schools, there's no way they'd be worth enough not to. if it happened, I'm assuming KU and whoever else would be junior partners for a while with vastly reduced revenues. KU is the third most valuable brand in the Big 12 after UT and OU and makes a ton of money in tier 3 rights, which I assume would go to the conference if they joined. As bad as our football has been, we've still been able to bring in a ton of money that way. But it's probably not enough to offset our addition to the league. Academically, it's about on par with Nebraska, maybe a little better, which puts us at the bottom of the Big 10. But KU has made some strides there, including ditching in-state open admissions, which really dragged down the school's academic numbers for a long time. I hope it happens, but I don't think it will, unless there is a real expectation that basketball revenues will start to go more directly to the conferences vs maintaining the NCAA, whatever it is they do. Just not sure it brings the $ to the B1G, and I have no idea who else could come. Colorado makes the most sense, assuming Iowa says no thanks to the Cyclones. Would be fun to play Michigan St./tOSU/UI/IU/Wiscy in hoops. And look it at this way, it's a nice way for middle tier BIG schools to pad their win stats in football. (Although I do think Liepold can make us respectable in a few years.)
  4. I think KU finally got it right with their coaching search. (Full disclosure: I've been able to convince myself they made a good hire every time.) Leipold is the first guy they've hired who has a history of outworking his opponents and turning less into more. You have to be able to do that at KU. No idea if he'll succeed, but I think he was out best shot out of the candidates we interviewed.
  5. Had UI winning it all. Such a good team. Getting a team like Loyola-Chi in rd 2 was definitely a rip-off, though.
  6. Are recovered cancer patients in current good health actually higher risk? I have never seen a clear answer on this. My sister is a breast cancer survivor--it's been over 10 years now since she beat it--and her doctors haven't had an elevated level of concern for her.
  7. Thoughts on this? I've never heard of him, but I don't follow the minors that closely. [tweet]https://twitter.com/Jordan_Minch/status/1277378146682187776[/tweet]
  8. Bad news, guys. Jack Flaherty horsefeathering rules. [tweet] [/tweet]
  9. Devonte Green and De'Ron Davis become the first IU senior class since 1972 to not play in a tournament game at all in their 4 years.....the day after they probably clinched getting to the tourney. I still wish they could at least release a bracket even if just for record keeping reasons. Dayton should be able to say that they were a 1 seed in 2020. Rutgers should say that the last year they made the tourney was 2020, not 1991. Juwan Howard should be able to say he guided his team to the tournament in his first season, etc etc But now it’s like there was no season at all and all the watching, reading about, discussing was pointless. I guess it’s not pointless for regular season conference champs or the smaller conference tourney champs, but for everyone else it’s like the season never happened Yeah, they should release a bracket just to give the players a tiny reward for their season-long efforts.
  10. I said it somewhere upthread, but the NCAA should grant everyone an extra year of eligibility That would be interesting. Michigan has like 5-6 guys coming in. How many would decommit because they were planning to be one and dones and Zavier Simpson and Jon Teske just took a huge chunk of their projected minutes? I wish they could have at least left the door open to playing the tourney at a later date. The NBA is talking about playing this season into mid-August so it’s not like the draft would affect it being played in like June Surprised they didn't leave the door open, but I guess it would probably be a logistical nightmare re: access to the venues, too. Although I guess they could have maybe found a way to use collegiate arenas, which would have been cool. Really thought KU was going to win it, although I haven't watched a ton since I have a five-month-old.
  11. gonna be another brutally long season at KU
  12. I'm a sucker for a good story and would be sad to see Hultzen go and finish his comeback elsewhere.
  13. Hey, I was just curious what realistic expectations for Underwood are. He looked really good yesterday, but obviously those weren't high-stakes innings. Could he be a valuable bullpen piece?
  14. Carl skipping Trump to see the dinos is the most legit thing that's ever happened. I'll miss him. I'll always believe if he'd just started Guyer off w a heater in the bottom of the 10th in the WS, he'd have gotten him out and we'd have never needed to turn to Monty.
  15. PH and then our high-OBP leadoff man to start the inning, like our chances!
  16. I thank Robel for his service, but I think I've seen enough.
  17. I pretty much assume every white baseball player is a Trumper until proven otherwise.
  18. Weird, because I've always hated it. I get that the price wasn't a roster-buster, but it still seemed like a doomed acquisition. Even in its most successful version, he was going to be a closer you had to handle like a piece of china. No long saves. No (or infrequent, IIRC) back-to-back days of usage. He probably breaks at some point anyways but it is interesting the thing they credit to breaking him is Joe going against the rules on handling him in that way in New York last year when he wasn’t supposed to pitch back to back or 3 in 4 days or whatever it was and Joe did it anyways. Maybe if Joe sticks to the rules he doesn’t break. To be honest, I don't remember the circumstances that broke him. Given his usage restrictions, though, I would have probably skipped closer signing and tried to use Strop or CJ last year. Obviously, knowing what we know now, that likely would have been equally disastrous, but maybe if we hadn't signed Morrow we would have had a chance to acquire someone at the deadline last year instead of counting on him.
  19. The price reflected the risk, the rest of the FA RP market sucked or was overpriced (Davis, who will still got a pick for losing) he at least was really good for the 40 innings or whatever we had him for last year. Yeah, I still don’t hate that one.
  20. He’s had 6 concussions. Don’t blame him. Hope for his career that he can play an adequate first base. There is pretty much no universe in which his bat is adequate for 1B though, is there?
  21. I know he's a lefty, but Fried's career splits vs lefties aren't impressive. I think I would've played a red-hot Heyward tonight.
  22. I met him once. He was an horsefeathers.
  23. Pretty sure even he gave up hope, too. Sad times. At least he's verified on twitter now, so we don't have to hear him bitching about that anymore.
