  1. that second Tillman goal was sublime . . . but he was good all game long. but, against Shakhtar
  2. that does seem a style that would suit Dest.
  3. "However, had Núñez shot wide or seen his effort saved, that would have brought the VAR into play. When a goal hasn't been scored, the DOGSO offence belongs to the player (Salah) rather than the team (a chance for another player.) The VAR would have been able to recommend a review for a red card against Bailey; Salah was ahead of the Aston Villa player with the ball in front of him, running towards goal and with no prospect of Lucas Digne being able to get back on the cover."
  4. pretty sure you can give the card after playing advantage. you certainly see cautions that way all the time
  5. good challenging matches
  6. Ter Stegen's season appears to be over. Maybe an opportunity for that young American (Diego Kochen) whose name I already forgot? Inaki Pena is their backup but he was a disaster last year. Side note, if you want to see the rise of a star, tune in for Lamine Yamal. Real deal
  7. Barca played Thursday, today, and again Tuesday. wtf?
  8. the games so far sure don't sell the new format. well, except dortmund-brugge, which was a fantastic watch
  9. my observation is that it's much easier to score on the counter than it is when you pin a team in. you have to have exceptional technical talent to break down defenses once they are set up, even Barca seems to be realizing this (perhaps because they can no longer afford the exceptional talent)
  10. possession is over-rated
  11. thank goodness Poch is on board to "clean up this horsefeathers"
  12. I don't think Alex Morgan ever had any trouble getting sex if she wanted it.
  13. crappy manager, interim manager, repeat . . .
  14. right?
  15. It was time. But definitely appreciate what she meant to a large generation of female soccer players.
  16. yea, he was backup when ter stegen was out last year. that's a lot at 18. ter stegen is 32 - not old for a keeper but the timetable might not be unreasonable. Chelsea will sign the Basque guy.
  17. NOOOOOOOOOO!
  18. first I've heard of him. any chance he succeeds ter stegen? better than gaga?
  19. I think Emma was more predictable, her having said she wanted to coach uswnt. still, great hires and I totally agree on the pool objectivity being the biggest thing
  20. sounds like its poch.
  21. I guess they now have a new complaint with a video that shows they made the appeal at 47 seconds and again at 55. It's just crazy. In the meantime, the other competitor was docked for stepping out of bounds and video shows she didn't. I guess part of it is not understanding the subtleties so it all just seems so random and leaves me feeling like the favorite always wins - figure skating is the same
  22. The whole gymnastics controversy is really why I am not a fan of judged sports. The athletes are absolutely amazing and the competition is decided by a panel of imperfect judges. Now they're arguing over an appeal that is required within 1 minute? I mean, it just seems ludicrous.
  23. "Smith said afterward that she heard Swanson shouting at her to not touch the ball because she had seen that Smith had strayed too far in front. "It was scary!" Smith joked, but she got the message and cut to the side, allowing Swanson to go ahead and score her fourth goal of the tournament."
  24. the fact that she keeps running isn't relevant - she could be standing in an offside position the whole time and would not be guilty of a violation. the only moment that matters is when the ball reaches Swanson - what she does after that isn't relevant. In fact, a 9 can just stand at the penalty spot all game long and the only thing that matters is if they are offside when the ball is played to them. with regard to a defender having to cover them - that's not relevant. there was one in the EPL that was really egregious - I think it may have been a manchester derby - in that case, the united player ran right on to the ball and then stood next to it - similar but I thought that was offside.
