You can’t horsefeathers lose a game with a 976 to 590 edge in OPS.

The Swanson injury is already burning them with a key throwing error and an 0-everything by Conforto and Ramirez. Shaw can’t come back.

Who is the last reliever we had that was this incompetent at his job?

He’s like any Astro reliever we’ve traded for. He’s another Edward Cabrera. Great on paper, He has the stuff, the ‘pitching lab’ to fix him and an outstanding defense behind him and just hasn’t worked out yet.

Yeah, that's it.

That and 4  combined RBIs by Mairiners hitters with 156 and 130 batting averages entering the game.

Scoring 5 runs hasn’t been enough way too often this year and it should’ve been against a bad offense in a hitters graveyard like Seattle.

Kelly has to scream that play to throw to 3rd.

Looked like he was screaming and jumping up and down while pointing to 3rd. Also might have been a play on 2nd during the last hit but nobody covered. I'm still pissed off about the game. One of the most frustrating losses of the year back to back.

Scientists should study this thing where every time the Cubs have a good baseball team they suck at hitting with RISP.

IIRC, they've occasionally been good or at least OK at it, but those years always seem to come when the team is otherwise so bad it doesn't matter.

Phil Maton

Plug in literally any reliever the Cubs have spent significant resources on, really. They've all sucked. Jed should probably just stick to dumpster diving because I'm tired of the Neris/Pressly/Zeferjahn/Maton revolving door of guys we use actual resources to acquire and immediately drop deuces everywhere

phillies are now 3 back of the cubs.

Zeferjahn seems like a headcase. He goes out there expecting to fail

He looks like he's trying too hard. Like he's out there trying not to make a mistake instead of just playing ball. He almost botched the throw to 1B too. I think  Counsell just needs to take him off high leverage until he settles down. We got Palencia back and potentially Shelby Miller or Cabrera to take his spot until he proves he can handle it.

Conforto ain’t it

Huge difference between starting and off the bench, theres really no reason for him to start again the rest of this season.

Starter:
51 G  188 PA 57 Ks  .199/.298/.360/.658

Bench:
35 G 37 PA 11Ks  .297/.381/.730/ 1.111

Pete was pissed they didn’t cover 2nd. Naylor was celebrating and not really running with any pace.

I think you're right.  Force play at 2nd.

Hey now, Mike Remlinger was great for 160 games a season with Dusty managing.

Sucks that has Dansby not been hurt that is a game the Cubs win. Seemed a lot of balls that Dansby gets to Nico just missed. I know he is a solid SS, but he isn’t Dansby. Another great sample of defense making the difference between winning and losing. With Dansby and all the other players where they belong the Cubs defense is historically good. One of the best ever. With him out, defense still good. Probably top in the league this year, or at least top 3. But that is a huge difference.

Going to 1-16 with RISP and only scoring 5 runs when you have 4 home runs and 3 doubles seems almost impossible. Impressive stuff Cubs.
