  1. It’s okay to just stop at “I don’t know anything about this stuff”.
  2. I think most people are smarter to judge players on more than 2 good weeks or 3 good starts. Well, maybe other than the people running the Cubs. Yes, if only they had the access to the info you have… Like always, who knows. But he’s a high upside guy with low mileage who also isn’t miles away.
  3. His legacy won't be interesting or up for debate in hindsight. He won the first World Series in 108 years. Tore down a mediocre organization, built a team that went to 3 straight NLCS and playoffs 5 of 6 years with a World Series title. That's the legacy.
  4. I like them.
  5. the crowd that night was extraordinarily loud for an april game Probably just my age, but every game felt like such a big deal in that timeframe until it went bad. I was born in '83 so had just vague memories of '89. Grew up loving individuals in the '90's but the teams were never good. '98 was super fun but out of nowhere and ended quickly. '01 was awesome for a while but similar to '98. '03-'04 and into '05 was nuts. You knew all games mattered which was new for Cubs fans but it was also before social media and phone distractions or DVR (for the most part). So many guys in our dorm, then apartments watched all 9 innings damn near every day.
  6. The only Lackey excuse is if Wade wasn't right when he was warming up at the same time as John. Especially with Kenley out of the game, just extend it. I'd still rather have Rondon but I really hope Joe is just covering for him.
  7. 2 of the 7 hits in L.A. are by our starting pitchers. horsefeathers.
  8. Now at .278/.381/.588 in 113 plate appearances.
  9. This is silly. Wilson would be a huge piece for this year and next year and they're not subtracting anything from the roster. He could have a bigger impact on the playoffs than Verlander. Verlander could always still be an August addition. it's a backup catcher and our 3rd (maybe 2nd) best reliever. it's a nice get, but make no mistake, it's boring. booooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. Okay. I don't see a high leverage reliever for the next year and a half that strengthens the whole bullpen as boring. Joe Smith and Tommy Hunter are boring. If we were expecting to add an everyday starter or didn't get Quintana I would get it, but this move is about what I was hoping for. I'd still like Verlander but that can still happen and there are a lot more variables with that one.

  11. Every day there are still about 5 times where he says "annnnndddddddddd" and stares blankly into space trying to figure out what to say.
  12. It looks like the raw PDF is much bigger than a single page, so you probably need to adjust the margins to be basically 0 to get as close to 'fullscreen' as possible. How do you do that?
  13. Probably an odd request, but does anyone know how to adjust the printable schedule PDF so it doesn't have the huge margins and small print? http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/chc/downloads/y2017/2017-Cubs-Schedule.pdf It looks perfect in the window but when I try to print it gets stretched thin with a ton of white space on the sides.
  14. Any buzz on potential Illinois targets? I know Cuonzo's name has been thrown out there for that and Missouri. I was really hoping they'd give Groce another year.
  15. I saw a tweet from Julie DiCaro that she was excited that Terry was back...but I thought he'd already been back. Was he gone again? Yeah he had a second surgery like a week after his first return and was out until this Monday. Has the medical condition been kept private or have I missed it?
  16. I'm not ready to think about 2017 and someone like Dex leaving.
  17. I would trust him with my life.
  18. And catching the final strike and then being part of the pitcher/catcher embrace that will be one of the most iconic moments in sports history. With Chapman. Nah, Chapman will be used earlier. Lester is closing it out.
  19. Totally agree. game 7 too Yeah I think I'd ride him out. Contreras could chill out at the plate but right now I'm more comfortable with Rossy.
  20. I never understood the "unlikable" deal with Lester. He's a red ass on the mound but ultra-competitive and he's not Lackey bitching at everyone. By all accounts he's a good teammate and pretty laid back guy when he's not pitching.
