Even if the Cubs don't completely catch up, getting the lead down to three means the Brewers have to play with some urgency.  Can't fart around and skip a Miz start, can't be cute with your relievers, etc.

There's an extent to which you can punt on the Battle because you're focused on the War when you have a big lead that isn't on the table in a tighter race.

Brewers held a 15 minute team meeting today too. It's that kind of pressure that can build on a team.

Frankly, I'm just excited to see the gap close. And I'm a little excited that a reverse 2018 could happen.

Bregman and Swanson each have 3.2 WAR after tonight.  With about a quarter of the season left each guy is likely to end up right around 4 WAR.

Really good stuff for not just the short term but the long term.  Early June when both guys were slumping those contracts were starting to look a little scary.

Bregman has currently posted 3.2 fWAR after last night. Cubs third baseman from 24-25 had .3 fWAR combined. 
 

The addition by subtraction of adding Bregman is understated.

Exactly, not so very long ago we were talking about how if the Brewers played .500 ball the rest of the year we'd have to post some ridiculous record to catch them by the end of the season.  Well, we're not even halfway through August and they are going into LA for a 4 game series only 3 up!!!!  Man, it's happening.

Its slightly possible the Cubs could be in first or tied by the end of Sunday.

It's actually not in bad shape.  I was watching the game yesterday and the Padres broadcast team said all their main guys were down on Monday from pitching over the weekend, then they got blown out Tuesday, so everyone was available yesterday.  Megill was the only guy who went more than an inning, but he only threw 15 pitches.  Ashby might be down today because he threw 24, but they're probably mostly okay.  Hopefully the Dodgers can beat them up some more over the weekend.
