JJ McCarthy is awful, like awful awful. He has as many interceptions in 7 games as Caleb does in his entire career.

If Caleb pulled an Eli rumor was Poles had McCarthy as his QB2 and was his backup plan. Bullet dodged.

For his mental well being he seriously needs a game or two off. Letting him continue to literally be the worst QB in the NFL and seemingly getting worse is going to crush any chance he overcomes this.

I wasn’t convinced he was going to be good, but he’s way worse than I thought.  I agree he needs a break to clear his head. He’s not going improve playing and failing.

One of the reasons why this one was especially tough: The running game was not working. Since the Bye they've run the ball super effectively, today they were 25 attempts for 99 yards but 21 of those were on Caleb scrambles and 15 on an end around.

Swift was terrible. Though I don't hold the "fumble" against him. (bizarre officiating, that play shoudl have been blown dead like 4 seconds earlier). Run blocking in general wasn't where you want it.

The Steelers D was vulnerable to the pass, pretty good against the run, lots of sacks.

Most impressive was the Steelers getting just a single QB hit all day (which was unfortunately in the worst spot possible)

2 more wins..,,,,

I think 2 more wins puts us at like a 40% chance of making the playoffs (not based on any math, just my own guesstimate).  The issue is, you have the following teams that can play under .500 the rest of the year and still finish 10-7:  Lions/Packers (whichever doesn't win the division in a scenario where the Bears finish 10-7), and 2 of the Rams/Seahawks/49ers.

If the Bears finish 2-4, at least 3 of those losses will come against the NFC and at least 1 of them would come against the Lions or Packers.   They play SF H2H, so if the 2-4 comes with a loss to them, SF wins the tiebreaker.  If the Packers win the division, one of the Bears wins would need to come against the Lions to have a shot at the tiebreaker over them (both teams are 1-2 against the North).  If the Lions win the division, the Bears would need to sweep the Packers or go 1-1 and hope the Packers lose 2 more division games since they are 2-0 in the division.

All that to say, the Bears should aim for at least 3-3 to feel good about the playoffs.

2-4 with a loss at SF would require a number of things to go their way to get in, 2-4 with a win over SF probably gets them in, 3-3 virtually guarantees it.

DJ deserved the penalty for tossing the ball at the defender, no argument whatsoever.  What I'd like to know is why both defenders hitting him really close to out of bounds and continuing on well out of bounds was okay.

Very real chance the Eagles will be playing with a chance to clinch the NFC East next Friday.

Philly just beating the ever loving horsefeathers out of Dallas. If the Bears can even keep it competitive I consider that a victory.

We saw glimpses today, when Caleb' is on schedule he and the Bears are unstoppable.  If Caleb can increase his consistency with playing on schedule I don't care how good the Eagles defense is, they won't stop the Bears.  Which means the Bears will keep it more than competitive.

If Detroit had lost today 2-4 with two wins against GB would have also looked solid.

Win out and they have a strong chance at a bye.. Let's just do that and leave the tie breaker jazz behind.

I didn't get to watch the whole game, but from what I saw I didn't think Trapilo was as bad as Theo has been in pass pro... anyone keep eyes on that this game?

Another week of memes about the Bears being pretenders. I can't wait.

Well, they arent pretenders but they also arent real good. That being said, fortune favors the bold, and the Bears continue to take advantage when they need to.

I'll be ecstatic with 10 wins, even if they miss the playoffs. It would also be so typically Bears to get to 10 wins and be 2 of like 3 for 10 win teams that dont make the playoffs, and thats why I dont think it will happen. Ben Johnson seems to be kryptonite to "typical Bears".

For the last 65 years, the Bears have been thought of as a Defense First team , but it hasnt always been that way. For a long time, it was offense offense offense, and in fact, thats when they won the most Championships in overall team history. Maybe the long slow pendulum of time is coming back the other way. I would like to see a good D backing up the O, however.

If it were possible to simply take a forfeit instead of playing as a super banged up team on the road against the best team in the league, would it make sense for the Bears to do that? Get a legitimate 2 weeks off, get Jaylon and Kyler back, give everyone a rest, etc.

No football team would ever do that of course, but I do wonder if it would be the "smart" thing to do. Maybe not, given how few games a team gets to play in a year and how, even with a low probability of success a win goes a loooong way to securing a playoff spot, but still. It makes one think.

I think they should aim to sweep no matter the outcome of their last game. They may jump someone really good if this D gets healthy

If the get JJ, Gordan, 1 or 2 LBs, they have to try the game as their measuring stick. Nobody will pick them, but it’s an excellent chance to start seeing where they really are
