At the very least we’re making them a little nervous at this point.

God if this year ends up being payback for 2018 it'll be my second favorite season ever even if they get pantsed in the playoffs 2008 style

For me it would take a lot more than just catching the Brewers to top Jake’s WC game against Pitt and donging the Cardinals out of the playoffs in 2015.

I still have 84 as my second favorite. Not sure how old you are, but it was such a huge deal to make the postseason for the 1st time in 40 yrs.

1984 was so special because they were made up from a bunch of older vets from other teams that just bonded together well and played hard every single game, and of course Ryno.

They kicked asss on the field and drank beer together in the clubhouse long after games were over.

They will always be my no.1 favorite team with 2016 as 1A...

When Palencia can locate his fastball, he is truly unhittable. which is nice

True.  Lately he keeps throwing pitches down the heart of the plate.  He got lucky on that 3rd out, another fb right down the middle.  Hopefully its mechanical and not fatigue and he cleans that up soon.

1984 was the first Cubs team i followed.  I remember coming home from elementary school and the crossing guard had the radio on for game 1. Cubs were up like 10-0. I couldn't believe it. Went home to watch the rest a 13-0 win. They win game 2 and I couldn't believe they were on the doorstep of the WS. My dad kept talking about 1969 and don't get your hopes up lol. Well he was right.

My favorite postseasons-Yes all but one ended in disappointment. And a couple were heartbreaking

For wOBA, why are hit by pitches assigned a higher linear weight that BBs? Even if it has a slightly higher correlation with run creation you’re still assessing an individual players performance and a HBP is entirely luck based unlike a walk.

This reddit thread explains it with included references and citations. The TLDR however is that it uses historical data and historically HBP's correlate higher with runs scored regardless of luck. As the thread explains, it's similar to a bloop single; sure the xBA may have been low and you may consider that luck based, but a single still weighs more than other categories in run scoring historically. Whatever we assume is luck based is immaterial to wOBA.

Intuitively it makes sense so long as the stat isn’t exclusively weighting PA outcomes solely in what’s in a hitters control, excluding BABIP luck. It makes a negligible difference with even small sample sizes. just curious.

I cut my last 2 classes in HS to get home to watch Game 1, I had to take the bus a block pass my regular stop to avoid walking by my mom's office so she wouldn't see me..lol

I will always remember running home from bus stop and running under a ladder( bad luck) and then the Cubs scoring 13 runs 😅

Idk why but when I read this post, that scene near the end of Ferris Bueller popped in my head.

1984 was magical (I still have the Ch Tribune newspaper from when they clinched the division), because it was the first time in our lives that the Cubs made the playoffs. We had the equipment managers listening to the radio during football practice to give us updates.

Even if the Cubs beat the Padres, I don't think anyone was beating the Tigers that year. For one year, they were one of the best teams in a long, long time.
