Two 7-inning games against the Dodgers i think

That’s right.. except game 2 went 9 because Muncy tied it in the 7th.

Dodgers got 2 in the 8th.. then Javy hit a 2 run single to tie it.

9th inning Bote got the walk off hit.

Think Caissie didnt have good numbers against lefties in the minors. The move makes sense but it is still Turner i guess

Turner has a .802 OPS and .291 AVG vs LHP this year.   But .364 OPS and .119 AVG vs RHP.

Get you some, Matt Shaw!!

I love watching Shaw and Nico run.   Nico rounding 3rd and chugging for home at max effort is the best.

If nothing else if the Cubs take at least one of the final 2 the Brewers will be hoping San Diego/LA plays them in the NLDS not the Cubs

The division is still out of reach, but these two wins sure felt nice and hopefully gives the team some confidence

Those did feel great didn't they?  It's been a while since I've smiled thinking about this team but last night made me smile.  Those Milwaukee fans were all up in Wrigley hooting and hollering and the Cubbies pretty much silenced them - at least for a day and two games.

You can now add Caissie to that list. He hustled his ass off to score from 1st.

Oh, and to the poster that said they thought Shaw was out at home, HELL NAH! I'm not even sure the catcher even applied a tag. Shaw came in wide and I think he crossed the plate before the catcher was even half way turned around to apply the tag.

I've stayed out of the Tucker walking to first base/booing narrative, but I was mad as hell that he's clearly been pouting about his slump. He probably still would have been out on that grounder that got bobbled by the 1b the other day, but he was already headed towards the dugout on that play, so yeah, he deserves some pine time to get his head right. I'd use him as a pinch hitter in either of these next two games if there is some runners in scoring position, but that's about it.

Assuming the Cubs don’t catch the Brewers I think I would be ok with if they held off the Padres and got them at Wrigley. At least the Padres won’t be trotting out lefties to face the Cubs to start games. And I believe the Padres struggle against left handed pitching. So Boyd and Imanaga should do well.

I'm the stereotypical old man get off my lawn on this and -  I get it, most people don't get that upset about not running it out in all circumstances.  So be it.  I don't think it's very much to ask, but that's just me. Whether Tuck didn't run because he was pouting and feeling sorry for himself (my opinion of why he didn't run) or it didn't matter he had no chance, or it was a business decision as there's a 1% chance he pulls a hammy trying to run fast - none really excuse it....at least for me.   If it doesn't bother you at all I won't be upset with anyone who it doesn't bother.  It's always going to bother me though.

Funny of all the times I’ve thought about muting you, who would have thought it would have ultimately been due to repeated Michigan comments in Cubs game threads?

You see that 5 star RB we got today?

You guys are all over here talking about programs who win National Titles and I'm wondering if Kentucky even gets to three wins on the year.

Did you see that 3-star DT we got? Chose us over Central Florida and FIU.

If the Cubs were winning 7-0 and Tucker wasn't struggling, no one would have even noticed. When a team and/or player are struggling things like that get magnified. I do think that the reason he didn't run was was the real issue. He is mentally down. He needed benched for a bit,

The person happiest about Tucker's struggles is PTR.

The Cubs need Tucker to get right to have any chance at a deep postseason run. I believe he will come around. He is too good of a player. Maybe let him get a full week off and bring him back on the 2nd half of the road trip in San Fran

This is the right call but I very much understand the frustration

I disagreed with the Turner for Caissie move only because it was so early in the game.  Now, turns out it probably worked out okay for the Cubs because I'm not sure Caissie makes that throw home to nail the runner that Castro did later.

Can't take credit for it, can't remember who said it, but I'm not sure why they didn't just go Castro for Caissie straight up. Castro has been good against LHPs this year, and that way you save Turner for either Busch/PCA vs a LHP or just an emergency in general. I guess after Ashby they were just left with Koenig as a lefty option in the pen, but still seemed an unnecessary early churn given that we were effectively down one bench spot in Tucker anyways.

Go get the next two and then maybe things can start to get interesting in the division race.

That's still not happening but I like the idea of potentially being in Brewer fans' heads as a potential NLDS matchup (presuming the Cubs end up in the 4/5).

Did they do 7 inning DHs in 2021? Thought it was only 2020

They kept them in 2021. I remember a game I was supposed to go to got rained out and rescheduled as part of a 7-inning doubleheader and my friend and I shared our mutual hatred of them

Yeah, that was me. It was only the 5th so needing Turner late in the game still seemed like a real possibility. You know Turner isn't coming in to play RF, and we know Tucker is almost certainly not either. Willi taking that AB was, to me, the smarter move in that moment, but I do understand the thinking that a guy like Turner was more likely to open up the game.
