This Cubs team is a joke, they aren't going anywhere even if they won today sadly. The infuriating thing, is not being able to stick it to the Cardinals. I don't think there are any good either, but it's still always awesome crushing their nuts. I guess we can't even have that this year either, joke ass team.

This forum is so bi-polar. lol

yeah why is everyone so grouchy about the team that appeared to be on the cusp of a dynasty becoming one of the worst 5-10 orgs in baseball in less than 10 years?

A couple days ago everyone was hoping for a top-7 pick. Now everyone is punching air over a series we can still take 3 out of 4 in.

That’s a glass half full attitude. Did you say that last year when they blew that 5 run 9th inning lead in Houston or that 6-0 lead in Milwaukee or any of those frustrating 1 run losses to Miami and Arizona? Win 2 of those and they’re the NL 6th seed.

I was talking about the fact that in the span of a week we have people wanting to tank for a better pick and now are angry because they want to make the playoffs. We can't do both. lol

Ideally everyone learned the lesson:   You don't need to tank to build through the farm system.  If you need to tank to build your farm system, then your farm system will not be sustainable and you'll just have to re-tank again in a few years.  Sustained success never starts with tanking.

People are just sick of being teased by this team.

Look man, that was a gut punch so I get every emotional response out there.  Passion is the true enemy of reason so passionate/unreasoned discourse here is not surprising at all.

Myself for instance, after that inexplicable display of little league level defense cost us a win - I hear Boog comparing it to Thursday like it was the same thing.  That set me off!! No...No.....No Boog, I defend you when others come after you -  This was not AT ALL like Thursday!!

Thursday we EARNED it.  We got clutch hard hits off a top level closer....something we've done little of this year but it was legit.  This one was today a by-product of a two defensive plays that defy explanation from professionals!!  It was not at all like what happened Thursday.   That analysis was a little league as defensive faux-pas's that cost us this win.

How many games do you suggest?

I’m not the world’s biggest Paredes fan, but do you think 5 games is a meaningful sample size to throw away 9 WAR in 2.5 seasons from a 25 year old? Or are you just being willfully obtuse?

I think the sample size of his entire career of him hitting beyond his xwOBA is finally catching up to him. He was able to succeed hitting at the trop despite his shortcomings but I think his entire career has shown hes a largly mediocre player who has gotten lucky. And now hitting at Wrigley, I believe its quite obvious its going to be a struggle for him. Because it has been for him his entire career away from the trop.

Paredes has a 116 wRC+ on the road in his last 500+ road PA.  We don't have to do this, we can let players struggle for even weeks at a time(or the pitching equivalent) over the course of 162 games without gnashing our teeth that the jig is up and the player's multi-year run of form is in fact over.  You'd think after seeing it proven out over like 5 different guys this year alone we might not, but I guess you have to be true to yourself

I caught part of the Marquee postgame show and Cliff Floyd was putting most of the blame on Nico for the ball that didn't get caught.  I can't say that I really agree, but he said Nico was too tentative in his call, PCA was calling the ball the whole time, and Nico should have got out of the way earlier.  I still feel like PCA has to recognize Nico being camped under the ball, but I guess I kind of see what Floyd was saying.  PCA hesitated a bit not knowing whether Nico was going to get out of the way, and that is what caused him to not be able to get to the ball.  The whole situation is avoided if PCA just allows Nico to make the play, but I can't completely dismiss Floyd's opinion as a former Major League outfielder.

And that's the game. Lose it because of PCAs dumb ass cockiness. So far I've seen none of this supposed elite defense.

He really needs to learn when to back off in the field.  If I played with a guy like this it would piss me off. His enthusiasm is bigger than his brain at this point.

PCA is probably watching the ball the whole way and doesn't know exactly where Nico is and that he had settled under the ball.  If you're the CF you're taught that its easier to make a play coming in than an infielder going back so its your ball on those in-between play unless called off.

On the one hand if PCA calls Nico off he better know he has a good play on it.  You can't call for the ball and then dive for it.  But I get Floyd's point because it took Nico a bit to concede to PCA and made the play harder for him.  I think ultimately its PCA's fault, he's gonna know Nico has a better play and back off, which he's had problems with before.  His enthusiasm is bigger than his brain.

For the record, winning any the Arizona losses would have put them in the playoffs (obviously if everything else played out as it did). Like that deflection off Keegan’s arm that Dansby inexplicably allowed to drop before throwing to first…if he decides to try to catch it in the air, the Cubs are in the playoffs.
