It gets lost but the team does have 2 2nd year DTs drafted high, and we should reasonably expect progression from those guys. I don't think Poles will prioritize that position. He really should make the OL/WR as great as he possibly can.

Agree.

I wish they could have brought Jones back on a cheaper deal than what he got. It would be nice to have the mix of proven veteran and upcoming talent.

I could see the lure of Dallas Turner or Jared Verse opposite Sweat. Would be fun to have that pass rush from both sides. In four years when Sweat's deal is up you extend the top 10 pick and keep the money side of it right.

I'll still take the offense first approach, partly because I just want to know what it feels like to have a team that can run up the score with their excess of weapons.

I'd slightly before Odunze to Turner but wouldn't really mind either way. If they passed up neighbors I'd be a bit disappointed, but nothing major. They'd more or less really have to screw things up at #9 for me to be upset.

Poles and Flus have been interviewed recently and it really sounds like they are prepared to take a player at 9. Poles mentioned deciding between WR, OL and DE specifically. Also said something about 25 picks over a 3-year span which they have goal of 8 picks per year, and that's right on target for his average over his tenure so far.

I'd absolutely prefer to take the pick at 9. I do think 1 of the WRs will be there. At least 2 of the top 3 DEs will be there. And there's about 5 OL that could conceivably go top 15, and at worst, 2 will be gone by 9. Really interested to see what happens with Braxton Jones if they take OT (no interior guys worth a top 10, per usual).

Yes, he certainly sounds poised to take a guy at 9. Maybe that’s just playing hardball but to me it’s made the most sense to try and go blue chip in top ten and hopefully never pick that high again. And they do already have 3 picks in the first two rounds next year and 9 picks overall in 2025. So you’re looking at restocking depth next summer and maybe get a starter or two.

the perceived need for more draft capital this year is just not real

I'm really trying not to buy too deep into the hype and I know it's way early, but this draft is starting to give me 2004 vibes from a talent perspective.

If that's the case, then I reeeeeeally hope they don't trade out of 9.

There’s a decent chance they get a compensatory 4th for Mooney too, which would bump them to ten picks (their full slate of picks, Carolina 2nd, comp 4th, Pittsburgh’s 6th).

Fully agree there’s no need to “restock the cupboard” this year, especially when the cupboard is only lacking is late round picks.

Yeah, and it's not like they didn't know how many picks they had when they traded for Bates and Allen. And the reason stated for trading those late picks is because this isn't a super deep draft. So, even a trade of 75 may not be in the cards, because there's not much of a point of getting more Day 3 picks in a draft you deem not to be deep.

I do think they end up with a 5th pick somehow though. Either they take a LT at 9 and trade Braxton and/or they trade Herbert.

I don't think Herbert has any trade value. I'm squarely in the draft RB's late, Pay them crap. Say goodbye after the fourth year. Braxton is more valuable to the Bears as a swing tackle for the next two years than a 5th rounder in this years draft.

NFL exec and ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum has put out a mock that has the Bears getting Harrison Jr. That's pretty outlandish. But, it gets better. He also has the Vikings trading the 11th pick to AZ for Kyler Murray while AZ takes McCarthy at #4.

The Vikings currently have 11m in cap surplus, but rookie cap will eat into most of that, even after trading the 11th pick. So, please tell me, Mr. Tannenbaum, how exactly you expect the Vikings to squeeze Murray's 50m a year contract for the next 5 years onto their roster?

I would love Marvin Harrison Jr but he isn't falling to 9 and besides the drop off to Odunze or Nabors is small

if Odunze is there at 9 they have to take him. It makes too much sense. Whatever else they do in the draft will be icing.

im not a bears fan but i will be if they draft williams. everyone in oklahoma dislikes him because he left with riley, and all the quote-unquote feminine stuff drives people here nuts. the thought of walking around in a bears williams jersey (also just a sick looking jersey for what that's worth) in the middle of OU/Cowboys country is right up my alley.

I wasn't talking about trading for a lot. But may be able to get a 5th or 6th in a draft where the talent drops off after the 4th.

He's basically D'Onta Foreman to this year's team. Swift obviously is the #1. He's a better receiver. Johnson's the change of pace as the slower, bigger back. Herbert isn't really a change of pace as he's similar speed to Swift, but slower. He doesn't add anything as a pass blocker. He doesn't play special teams. He's going to end up as a guy that's a gameday inactive or get 3 or fewer touches per game if all the RBs are healthy.  He's cheap enough to have some value to teams like Vegas (Getsy), Dallas, or any team that doesn't have a really strong RB2. The Bears have Homer who can play RB3, who IS a pass blocker, plays special teams, and knows the Waldron offense already. They can also start the late RB cycle again a year early if they get one from a Herbert trade.

Yeah, I didn't think you meant anything high. But by no trade value, I meant zero, even late ones in this draft. Any of those teams could just use that late pick on a guy and get four cheap years instead of the one he has left. Hell they could probably just go UDFA.

There's something weird happening re: the valuation of QBs in this draft, and it may be just the eyeball economy of clicks and attention, but there's all this talk about Jayden Daniels and JJ McCarthy and a concordant devaluation of Drake Maye.

Maye is a way better prospect than those guys. He's kinda gotten squashed between the rightful attention that Caleb Williams has gotten and the rising interest in Daniels and McCarthy due to how their seasons ended but... there's no way in my mind anyone should feel disappointed in him as a prospect and he's not just a consolation prize. Dude can ball.

I hope your hat is made out of outside skirt steak. He's a project at this point, but he has all the tools.

And Tebow is arguably a top 5 best player in college history. Doesn’t mean he’ll do anything at the next level.
