Just for the record, I'll just say I'll be perfectly content if we're a 2020s Bills where we're consistently great and lose in the playoffs

This would be a significant upgrade over where the Bears have been for the past 25 years

No way Fields is the next Mahomes so it’s definitely time to draft QB at #1.

Poles’ entire legacy will ride on whether he makes the right choice on that pick.

His entire career, down to one decision.

I don't think thats quite true - or at least, there's wiggle room there. If Williams is adequate, good or very good, and the team around him is very good, Poles will be fine. If Williams is amazing and the team around him is bad, Poles could very well be in trouble. (A QB being amazing and the team itself being bad is a bit of an exceptional situation because its very likely the team will at least be OK if he's amazing, just by virtue of his play, but it can happen)

I'm thinking of Matthew Stafford in Detroit. I don't think the Bears are that inept.

Maybe I'll look like a dummy when he's the next Lamar Jackson, but I don't get the Jayden Daniels helium at all.  We can all see that he's not very good at throwing (by NFL standards), right? That is still important, isn't it?

This is the same thing I'm feeling when I look at JJ McCarthy

I’ve seen quite a bit of LSU and Daniels the last two years, and I agree.  He threw a ton of 50/50 balls where he was bailed out by one of the best WR corps in CFB.

I’m not saying the Bears should draft him, but I think Bo Nix is going to be the steal of this year’s draft. He’s the son of coach, is really smart, and is gym rat. He’s a little old but he’s got a strong arm, quick release, and good sense of what he wants to do at LOS.

This trade will look really bad if they don't find a decent replacement and Wilson goes on and has a pro bowl caliber season with someone on a league minimum contract. Tampa? Minnesota?

I can't gauge the level of sarcasm here, but I understand that the 5 year extension Wilson signed wouldn't have kicked in until this coming season.

Wilson won’t go anywhere, he’s done

If he wants to play there will most likely be a team for him to start on.

He can be signed for the vet minimum of 1.27 million.

The offset language in his Denver contract means that the amount a new teams signs him for will be subtracted from the 39 million Denver owes him this season. So there is no reason for a new team to spend more than the minimum on him and he would not get any benefit from it if they did.

There are 10 teams with QB needs

There are 9 QB's available: 1 in trade, 2 in FA, 6 in draft.

That leaves 1 team that would be hard pressed to find a better option then a flyer on Wilson for 1 year at 1.27 Mil.

There's so much QB musical chairs this offseason, it's messy.

I believe all the insider reports that say Pittsburgh wants to run it back with Pickett, they seem legit.   Mayfield seems 99% to stay with Tampa Bay.   Chicago, New England, Washington seem likely to go 1-3 with QBs and give the franchise keys to those picks.

That leaves Minnesota, Atlanta, Denver, Las Vegas as teams that definitely need a QB.  Denver seems ready to do a full tear-down.  Cousins seems to be down to Minnesota and Atlanta, but that could always change.  That would seem to leave Wilson for Las Vegas and the Cousins' loser between MIN/ATL?

That will leave two teams in a bit of a messy situation: Denver and probably one of MIN/ATL/LV.    I don't think QBs 4-6 in the draft warrant day 1 starting, but I think some teams that aren't looking for immediate starters (NYG, Seattle, NO) might be into them.

So those are the four teams that could be FIelds destinations.  Denver and Atlanta want to run quick-hit timing offenses, so you would think that rules them out.  Las Vegas to reunite with Getsy would be hilarious but surely not.  Would Minnesota even want him?

Actually, Denver is just straight tanking, so maybe they won't care that Fields is a bad fit for a season and will want to take the flyer.  I think he fits on a tanking team because his skill set (throwing bombs when the defense breaks down and occasionally breaking 70 yard runs) doesn't really require help from his team.

Denver is still in cap hell, and even a guy like Tannehill or Minshew are going to cost 8 figures. Fields could make a little sense for them.

the fact that Denver is paying 85 million dollars to make Russell Wilson go away makes it so utterly embarrassing he led a 21 point comeback against the Bears last year.

Post-combine this is where I’m at the top 10 falling:

Bears: Caleb Williams - Could you imagine if they did anything else?

Commanders: Joe Alt OT - Makes for a very talented OT duo with Cosmi

Patriots: JC Latham OT - A former 5 star recruit moving through IMG and then Alabama, immaculate pass blocking record, and I’ve seen expectations from 4.9 (insane) to 5.15 40 at 342. What is missing here? Arguably the best non-QB prospect in this draft!

Cardinals: Marvin Harrison Jr. WR

Chargers: T’Vondre Sweat DT - A rare NT prospect, even more massive than All Pro talent like Derrick Brown and Dexter Lawrence

Giants: Dallas Turner LB/DE -  Freak athlete may thrive immediately working behind Lawrence, Thibodeaux

Titans: Drake Maye QB

Falcons: Taliese Fuaga RT

Bears: Rome Odunze WR - Next best WR after Harrison

Jets: Michael Penix QB

Vikings: Jayden Daniels QB

Broncos: Nate Wiggins CB

Raiders: Troy Fautanu OT

Saints: Tyler Guyton OT

Ran out of steam after that but I could see Miami sniping the Eagles on Powers-Johnson at 20-21. 2-3 CBs should go before 20, Wiggins and Mitchell for sure. Bowers falls to Houston if the Bengals. Chiefs steal Troy Franklin or Brian Thomas at WR. Fashanu falls to the teens maybe later.

I'm willing to bet you a million internet dollars that OT's don't go 2 & 3.
