Carter is a big swing at 9.  Knowing next to nothing about everyone else except Chase Brown, I think that would be an acceptable draft.  Looks to add on OL and DL, decent look at a CB and WR, a RB who can produce...

Really not interested in a question-mark laden DT at 9.  Trade down would be fine with me.

Maybe I'm being dumb but I really want JSN.  An unguardable slot receiver gives this offense a dimension it doesn't have now with our three good outside threats.

Offensive line would be my second choice. But it seems like all the options there are flawed by top-10 pick standards and we can do just as well there in the 2nd round.

I don’t see how they can do “just as well” on the offensive line in the 2nd round.

All the top guys on ol seem like "maybe could be a good starting tackle but would need to hit upside to get there" and you can usually find that later too..

I would fine with taking one of the top ol guys. Just not my literal first choice

Yeah, I don't hate the JSN move. I've gone back and forth on him in general, because I don't love him as a top 10 pick (and out of spite because Bears twitter act like he's the only WR in the draft). But I can't complain about adding a short level separator to the offense that he's familiar with. If JSN's presence forces Fields to get rid of the ball quicker and take fewer hits, he's worth more than a good RT, IMO.

Believe someone mentioned this before nevertheless, 2+ months after the SB is too damn long to wait for the draft.  Why such a long wait, somehow money related?

I'd love if they traded back and drafted JSN while also picking up a better 2nd rounder. I'd be highly shocked and concerned if they drafted JSN at 9 and then waited until 58 to draft T and DT.

Feel like with 7 rounds and 60+ player rosters including practice squad, they need that long to scout and prepare for the draft?  Just a guess.  Plus the NFL prefers having FA before the draft which in many cases it affects their draft planning, whereas the NBA is reversed.

But the real answer in my mind is that it keeps people talking about the NFL for longer.  The NBA literally has the draft 1 week after the Finals have ended, I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult for the NFL to have the draft in mid-March instead of at the end of April.

Seems plausible, regarding the scouting doesn't it occur during the whole of the college football season?  Once the draft position becomes fairly clear I have to think NFL teams already have a big board in mind - no?

The logic for the draft AFTER free agency is because it helps keep veterans employed. If the draft was before free agency, many vets would be out of jobs or would get less money after teams have drafted younger and potentially cheaper players, decreasing FA demand.

And that logic makes most sense in the NFL where you have a salary cap, there are guys coming off of injuries every year, and there's legit attrition due to player age.

Reports are that the Lions came away impressed with Carter after meeting him this week.  Gonna be hard for them to pass him up if he's available at 6.

I don't believe the Bears were going to draft him at 9, I'm convinced Poles is going to take a DB in the first.  Prepare for the gigantic Twitter meltdown after he goes DB with his first pick for the second time.

Oh, it will be a meltdown alright. That's why I don't think it happens. I think the most likely is a trade down and he takes the T Poles most covets, whether that's Dawand Jones or Broderick Jones, since Paris will likely be gone and Skoronski isn't even being talked about outside of all the draft experts who all believe the Bears are taking Skoronski.

DB is supposed to be one of the deepest positions in the draft, so I find it highly unlikely they go CB with monster holes to fill at T, DT and DE. To go with a CB and not have another pick until late 2nd round with all of those holes  to fill would be suicidal. I'd guess they could land a decent CB in the 3rd round.

I think all of this draft Bijon and Jalen Carter stuff is to try to get teams to trade ahead of them so that Paris falls to 9. I'm guessing Poles has several plans in place to fix the holes, but I'm guessing each one involves DL or OL with their first pick, and he's not tipping his hand.

The more I think about it, the more I'd really like to trade down and grab a pick in the 35-45 range even if it comes at the cost of grabbing a truly top tier prospect. I'm still not selling #9 cheap or even for "fair" value, but I don't think it would take robbery for me to be ok with them moving down now. They need at least 3 day 1 starters from this draft on the DL/OL and that's probably the most realistic way to get it done.

Yeah, I like the Pitt trade scenarios where we get pick 32 back and exchange later picks in the draft

Lions just lost a bunch of players to a gambling scandal

I think Jameson Williams is the only Lions player of note to be suspended.  They already released 2 of the other guys who are suspended, and the other one they didnt release seems like a special teams guy and not one that played a ton last year.

But losing Williams will hurt...he only played a tiny bit at the end of the year, now will probably be out 6 games to start his 2nd year.  Bad value on a player they traded up to draft in the 1st round.

There was a fair amount of chatter on 670 this morning about the Bears having significant interest in RT Darnell Wright (either at 9 or in a trade down).  So the theory goes, Skoronski and Johnson would likely need to move either to RT or the interior, but Wright is already NFL-ready at RT and could slot in immediately, rather than run the risk of joining an already crowded group of potential guards.

I'd hate the pick at 9, and I'd rather have a more versatile tackle then a primary right tackle

I think id take supreme ability at a specific tackle spot over versatility in the first round. You can fill in versatile tackles whenever, but a 10 year starter is the ideal.
