I know little about him but that seemed underwhelming to me.  Up against top talent, true, but he looked slow.

I mean, it was a modest 5-7 pick reach, but it wasn't as bad as what the Lions or Jets did.

It was a need pick, but they picked the best guy at a position they need to fill.

Says who? You could forget about Skoronski and gotten 2-3 better thought of prospects at T

Not to mention Edge players that were still available,

Who did we pass on that was higher value but non-need?

Jalen Carter was a much better value who was taken by a much better front office that gave up essentially nothing to make a pick the bears were too scared to make

But DT is a need too.  That's not passing on value for need.  That's disagreeing on value.

Heck, DT is a bigger need than RT was.  Borom is better than whoever we have there I'm not even sure at this point.

Don't think Wright is a reach there. But I was still reeling a bit seeing Carter right there for the taking and Poles passing on that chance.  Have to imagine he wasn't very high on their board. So you could say they get a free pick, which cool, but Poles is gonna be judged hard if Carter becomes a stud.  And he'll look smart if Carter flames out of NFL.

Wright help will help to fill a need, was hoping for JSN.  I really believe Carter was never a serious consideration by Poles and he managed to get his player at 10 and another pick for 2024.  Jayden Reed will be there day 2 or day 3 to give your
a little of what JSN would have brought to the table.

So far the Bears under Poles have taken a cautious, passive, and cheap approach.

I won't be surprised next year at this time thinking, "What are they going to do with all this cap space?"

I wouldn't call making multiple first-round trades "passive."

No he won't. Hell need Carter to fail AND Wright to be successful to look smart

i feel like it's actually the bigger gamble, and kind of a dumb choice

I hope I'm wrong and they find something in Wright no one else is, but I can't help but have deja vu. The feeling I have is the same feeling I had when I heard the name "Marc Colombo" on draft day.

Wright’s floor is much higher than Carter’s. And both are huge positions of need. Wright provides further support of your franchise QB. This is MUCH less of a gamble than Carter. I don’t really understand how anyone can refute that.

Even if Carter flashes, he's still going to be a guy at a non-critical position who takes plays off.  Good luck to him, don't care, never wanted him.

The failure point for this pick is if Wright sucks and the tackles taken immediately after him or that CB don't

While I would have taken Carter, I also 100% agree with you on Wright. If I pass on Carter I want tg player I can get. poles thinks that's Wright. I guess we'll find out

Pace - routinely turned multiple first-round picks into a single guy, roster always short

Poles: turns his first first-rounder into a pro bowl WR, an allegedly ready to start RT, another first, two seconds and a fourth.

It won't work work if he sucks at drafting, but he's doing an excellent job of piling up value while also fielding a very non-tanky team in his second season.  If Fields is 80% of what everyone keeps insisting he is, this is a playoff team next season.  And if he's not, the next guy comes into a way better situation than Fields did.

no one that anyone should be listening to thinks DT is non critical

None of those guys are Day 1 starters in their rookie years at T, imo. Mauch had a Day 2 grade with most publications, whereas Harrison and Jones were seen as projects.

Wright can anchor RT immediately. He's not a splash pick, but he's climbed the boards following the combine and workouts. It's a good pick.

Defense is the least important side of the ball

Edge and CB are undoubtedly more important than DT, and in modern NFL offenses coverage LBs are starting to be too.  DT can be tied with safety
