So the mention of Daniel Corcino made me want to look up a scouting report on him. A google search led me to this site:

http://www.hesperiasoccer.com/ootp/news/html/players/player_27986.html

I was glad to find out that, based on his 'Personality Ratings', his greed is Very High. What a joke...

His changeup is currently a 2, but has the potential to be an 8.

That seems likely. Good to know.

what the hell is that site?

exactly

Its the online version of a game. Its fake.

I really like all the CGI used for player pictures instead of, you know, real ones.

Also, from the same site, did you guys know?

Angels Hire Scott Shafer as Latest GM

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011: Newly installed GM Scott Shafer was spotted in the clubhouse at 7:00 AM, meeting with his coaching staff.

"I want to be sure they know where we stand," he explained, "I'm not sure how it worked with the last guy, but as long as I'm around I need everyone to be on the same page. It doesn't matter if you're dealing with All-Stars or rookies, talent will only take you so far."

Cool.

I know it's just fan talk, but if you're not liking this deal for some reason, read this thread. They are acting like the world is ending, and that's before the Hamilton rumors.

Wow. That reds44 guy is a moron.

They seem to be warming up to the trade in the last few pages and don't think that the prospects will be much of anything and they're pretty sure that that awful Coddington guy who seems like a poor mans version of a minor league baseball player is one of them.

Instead of comparing Wood to Wells. Compare him to Marshall, when Marshall was a starter earlier in his career.

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/marshse01.shtml

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/w/woodtr01.shtml

Strikiningly similar in their first two years except Wood walks fewer and has given up more runs. Marshall was not the strikeout machine that he has become as a reliever. So, best case is that Wood improves and can remain in the rotation as a #3 starter. Worst case, he becomes the LOOGY that Marshall became. Either way, the Cubs save a good chunk of money and get some additional prospects.

When did Marshall become a LOOGY?

He's like a triple LOOGY. He gets three outs, and they don't have to be situational.

And they tend to be in the late innings with a lead. Where I come from they call that a set up man.

I knew Marshall had been great, but I was surprised when I went to fangraphs and saw he was the MLB leader in war for all relievers over the last two seasons.

I like the part of the Reds thread where they start going on about "it's okay if we get salary relief" on Marshall's contract. FTH? They know what he's getting paid, it's not like they think he's making $9 million

I'm not that convinced that Wood can ramp up his fastball out of the pen in the same way that Marshall eventually did. If he can't, then it's debatable if Wood in the pen is better than Maine, Russell, Beliveau.

Short of it is, Wood's value is as a starter. As a pen arm, he's possibly nice, but nothing that you should trade for. Expecting him to become Marshall out of the pen is a bit debatable, IMO, due to how Marshall ramped up his fastball eventually.

I read on another message board that the 2 prospects we received in the deal were Kevin Coddington and Travis Webb. If that is true, how does everyone feel about that?

That would be horrible and, if you believe Jim Bowden's tweet that a "Cubs source" told him that the prospects are "key to the deal", it seems unlikely that those are the guys.

I wouldn't care because I consider Wood for Marshall straight up to be fine. But those guys suck.

If the prospects do happen to be high end, I petition the thread title be changed to "Sean Marshall traded for Prospects + Travis Wood"

Doesn't seem like there's much basis to that rumor.

Doesn't mean it wont turn out to be true, but there's no source for it. It's just an unattributed rumor that everybody seems to be running with.
