Marshall is being sold at a point in time when his value is the highest. If Wood has a 4.5 ERA along with around 200ip (which I think is within reach) plus 2 prospects then I'd say the Cubs got a good deal and we wouldn't be too disappointed. Now, if Wood tanks and ends up being terrible and the two prospects turn out to be career bullpen catchers, then all the Cubs lost out on was a RP that will become a free agent after the season is over and they may even have a chance to resign him if he's that important to the Cubs' future. On the other hand, if Wood puts up 2010 type numbers (which may be a little far fetched but if he did it once who is to say it couldn't happen again) and the Cubs get two prospects that turn out to make it to the Major League Club (I know odds are greatly against it) then you have the deal of the century because all you gave up was a set up man. I will take those odds.

What we are also forgetting is that Marshall has the most value on a team that is good. The Cubs are not good nor will they be by the time the season starts. Also, we all assume that Marshall will put up identical numbers that he has in the past two seasons (granted there is no real reason to argue why he wouldn't but I'm just saying). What if the Cubs know something that we don't and Marshall ends up a total bust for them.

All I'm trying to say is that it's unfortunate that we don't know what is going to happen and based on the floor/ceiling of this trade, I'm perfectly fine with the deal.

I know it's just fan talk, but if you're not liking this deal for some reason, read this thread. They are acting like the world is ending, and that's before the Hamilton rumors.

I don't have much of a strong feeling about Wood. I do like Marshall a lot. I would have preferred to see him in a deal for something more impactful, but it makes sense to me.

The team still sucks though.

Instead of comparing Wood to Wells. Compare him to Marshall, when Marshall was a starter earlier in his career.

Strikiningly similar in their first two years except Wood walks fewer and has given up more runs. Marshall was not the strikeout machine that he has become as a reliever. So, best case is that Wood improves and can remain in the rotation as a #3 starter. Worst case, he becomes the LOOGY that Marshall became. Either way, the Cubs save a good chunk of money and get some additional prospects.

On redszone they are saying rumors are the two prospects as Travis Webb and Kevin Coddington.

They both suck, and Webb is old.

They are? I just read through the pages I missed out on and didn't see that.

Just a brief mention of the two names on the middle of page 20. I don't believe it, but was reporting what I saw. It is quoted and someone is making a comment on it.

FWIW, I don't trust this guy at all based on the Darvish stuff he threw out there. But:

#Cubs likely to get Daniel Corcino from #Reds along with Wood in the Marshall deal

Would be epic.

I like this deal. Marshall is a free agent after this season, at which point he will be 30 years old looking for closer money. This was the time to get value for him, as he is unlikely--great reliever though he may be--to be a difference maker for the 2012 Cubs.

I don't dislike the deal, especially if the prospects are better than filler. I also am perfectly fine with trading Marshall. The only thing I question is how valuable Wood is.

From Kevin Goldstein:

ZERO. Reds wouldn't trade Hamilton for Marshall straight up. RT @sdcubs3: @Kevin_Goldstein any chance he could be in the Marshall trade?

Wood's results haven't been mixed, really. He's had a half season of good, and a half season of league average, and he doesn't turn 25 until February.

It's the drop in the K rate and rise in the BB rate that concern me.

I like Goldstein and don't expect Hamilton as part of the return, but I'd love to see his and the Reds fans on that site's reaction, if he was.

A bunch of people on the reds site seem to think we'd be willing to pay Soriano's entire salary just to get rid of him. What the hell would be the point of that? Reds fans are stupid.

So the mention of Daniel Corcino made me want to look up a scouting report on him. A google search led me to this site:

http://www.hesperiasoccer.com/ootp/news/html/players/player_27986.html

I was glad to find out that, based on his 'Personality Ratings', his greed is Very High. What a joke...

His changeup is currently a 2, but has the potential to be an 8.

That seems likely. Good to know.

what the hell is that site?
