  1. I'm far from a journalist major but I do know this, you don't misquote anyone. You put their quotes down and let the reader assume the obvious. His assumptions are probably correct but he messed up with this one.
  2. I'm making a custom dog collar for my new pup and I want to put the white cub logo from the 1914 hat. I'm searching the internet and can't find a good image of one, only pictures of the hats. Can anyone help me out with finding a good image of just the logo?
  3. If Theo could sign back up OFers and#4/5 SPs and trade them for prospects like this every year, I'd be a happy camper.
  4. why wouldnt they? if they wer going to for dempster why wouldnt they for maholm if we agreed to pick up his option and pay most of it? maholm for 1.5 yrs is more valuable then dempster for .5 yrs in my opinion Agreed. If they were willing to give up Delgado for Dumpster, why not give him up for a pitcher that is just as hot and a good 4th OFer. I'm not sure WHY they are willing to give up Delgado but who knows?
  5. So how much to the Cubs sign Reed Johnson for in the off season?
  6. Dumpster just realized he pissed off the entire Cubs fan base and screwed the team over. Looks like there is some leverage back for the Cubs, hopefully.
  7. Sometimes things are just things. And sometimes, contrary to 90% of the posters in this forum, it's fun to be positive and hopeful!
  8. Contrary to reports, I believe Garza will make his next start. Why? The Dodgers hold all the cards in a Dumpster trade and have said that they prefer Garza. So Theo uses the minor injury to Garza to say he will not be traded until next off season, virtually taking him off the table. There is now one less pitcher available for the Dodgers to go after which ups Dumpster's value a tad. Now, the Dodgers are pressured into upping the ante or taking on Soriano. After Dumpster is traded to Dodgers for at the very least, Webster, in the next day or two, it comes out that Garza will make his next start. Theo, being pissed at how confident the Dodgers were, turns around and gives Coletti the bird and a big F**K you! Garza has a decent start and is then traded. Wishful thinking but it would be pretty sweet.
  9. And they shouldn't. Dodgers are trying to call the Cubs bluff. If the Cubs are only going to be offered crap that won't help the team they are better off sending a message to the rest of the league's GMs by keeping Dempster if they don't get what they want. The rest of the league will know that if you throw crap at Theo, he would rather not do business with you. What I wrote probably doesn't make sense....but in my head it does! :stickman:
  10. I can't imagine Theo is the type of guy you'd want to piss off. I really have no basis for this but he seem like the type of guy you don't want to cross.
  11. Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation Not a huge surprise, but good to know. RT @TBrownYahoo: The Cubs have told Dempster suitors they'd grant a window to negotiate extension.
  12. I defended Dumpster at first not knowing what he said a few weeks/months ago. What a piece of trash. If he only wanted to go to LA then say so to the Cubs and not the entire world before any trade happens. If he doesn't want to be traded then let the Cubs know. Cubs fans, please boo him for me next time he pitches at Wrigley.
  13. I don't have anything against what Dempster is doing. I'm not happy the Cubs aren't getting Delgado but he has the right to veto the Braves trade if he wants. He's playing inside the rules so how can you fault him for that. None of us have ever talked with Dempster about the situation so who are we to judge? Granted, this may be too much common sense for most people on this board but it is what it is...deal with it.
  14. I think the best we can hope for is that Dempster went to Theo and asked him to do whatever possible to get him to LA. Theo goes to LA and says that Demp prefers to go to LA if you can offer something similar to the Atlanta offer. IF LA can't then Demp will go to Atlanta. Doubt this is the case but one can only hope.
  15. This move would fit in with what I believe Theo and Co. are doing right now. They are filling the roster with a lot of buy low sell high candidates in hopes they hit on one or two so they can maximize their return. If you can't go out and spend money on prospects like you used to be able to do then I say go out and spend money on a guy that you will eventually be able to get prospects for in the future. However, I see no reason to trade Marmol right now. He has extremely low trade value. Let's see if Bosio can straighten him out and then trade him at the deadline for much more.
  16. Baseball Mogul + Goof Jonkins + Semmy Sesa > OOTP
  17. Marshall is being sold at a point in time when his value is the highest. If Wood has a 4.5 ERA along with around 200ip (which I think is within reach) plus 2 prospects then I'd say the Cubs got a good deal and we wouldn't be too disappointed. Now, if Wood tanks and ends up being terrible and the two prospects turn out to be career bullpen catchers, then all the Cubs lost out on was a RP that will become a free agent after the season is over and they may even have a chance to resign him if he's that important to the Cubs' future. On the other hand, if Wood puts up 2010 type numbers (which may be a little far fetched but if he did it once who is to say it couldn't happen again) and the Cubs get two prospects that turn out to make it to the Major League Club (I know odds are greatly against it) then you have the deal of the century because all you gave up was a set up man. I will take those odds. What we are also forgetting is that Marshall has the most value on a team that is good. The Cubs are not good nor will they be by the time the season starts. Also, we all assume that Marshall will put up identical numbers that he has in the past two seasons (granted there is no real reason to argue why he wouldn't but I'm just saying). What if the Cubs know something that we don't and Marshall ends up a total bust for them. All I'm trying to say is that it's unfortunate that we don't know what is going to happen and based on the floor/ceiling of this trade, I'm perfectly fine with the deal.
  18. Can someone explain to me why so many people are upset that Theo and the Cubs aren't spending money left and right this off season? Ask people one of the main reasons why the Cubs are in the mess that they're in and they will tell you Soriano and Zambrano's bad contracts. So why hurry to sign more contracts like that? If there is one luxury the Cubs have its that they don't have to put a competitive team on the field the next two years and they'll still sell out games. I'd rather the Cubs go on full out rebuild and be competitive for years and years to come rather than tie their hands for a pitcher who is a crap shoot and a player like Fielder who will be a DH by the time the Cubs have a decent team. Sure the NL Central is weaker with no Fielder and Pujols but the Cardinals are getting Wainright back, the Brewers will still be a decent team, and the Reds will be improved. If the Cubs got Darvish and Fielder they still would have a difficult time winning the division. If the Cubs end up signing Fielder, which I don't think they will, I won't be upset but it's not the move I want them to make. Imagine how bad the Cubs' defense would be with Fielder trying to pick Castro's throws out of the dirt?
  19. I have a gut feeling that GMs have a pretty good idea if a player is going to accept or decline arbitration before they off it to them. Whatever comes of the Pena situation, I'm sure it will be Epstein's desired outcome. I'm not worried.
  20. +1 Dempster has made over $61M over the course of his career NOT including the $14M option he just exercised. I'm guessing that at this point in Dempster's career he is looking out for his family first. I'll never blame anyone for doing that.
  21. Thanks guys, have been reading the board for years and finally decided to jump on. I understand that Theo will be building from within AND signing Free Agents. I may have worded it wrong but my line of thinking is that if I'm going out and spending money on FA's, I'm going to go sign pitching. I don't feel that it is worth signing either Fielder or Pujols when more than one area in the field can be addressed with the money spent on 1 player. The Cubs aren't a 1 player fix from a championship or even a 500 record. That is obviously my own opinion but I don't feel that either will be worth the money in the long run. Now, if Theo is looking to put butts in the seats and get the casual fan excited for the upcoming season, Pujols is the way to go. If you want Castro to break an MLB record for errors in one season, go with Fielder. But with all this set aside, I'd be pretty stoked to get Fielder. Would I be stoked to get Pujols? I would have mixed emotions...I just hate the guy too much.
  22. If I had to choose, I wouldn't sign either of them. If the Cubs are committed to building from within and having a plan of attack, they need to leave these two alone. The idea of signing the best player from two of the Cubs' rivals sounds intriguing but it's not a smart move. I'd rather throw money at pitchers and piece together a line up. Pujols is aging and still great, but not worth the money. He is just flat out getting old...there's no way around that one. But if it's between Pujols and Fielder, I'm going Fielder. He's younger and hits from the left side. But again, I'd rather not sign either.
