  1. Probably a slightly better version of Ruggiano when you factor in the versatility and defense and they got a little something back for Ruggiano, so I guess it's a small net win. As has been said, I just hope this isn't the last upgrade to the OF.
  2. I could see Marshall pulling a few more of these to force his way out of town based on how unhappy he has seemed down the stretch. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Another optimistic interpretation, maybe Lester didn't have Ross as his personal catcher because he thinks Ross is a righteous dude, but rather because he values pitch framing. If that's the case he'd likely be cool with montero catching him as well. One can hope, right? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. It's an even better gig than punter or long snapper Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. I'm a little disappointed, but not surprised. Castillo likely has more perceived value to someone else as a starter than he does to us as the short side of a platoon. Let's hope the FO already knows who that team is. If the last three big league additions of the offseason are Ross, Breslow, and Gomes, then the glow of the Lester signing will have faded. Here's to that not being the case. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Could mean the pads are back in on him too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I just can't imagine spending all that coin on Lester and going to war with coghlan-alcantara-Soler as the of (even with Bryant potentially on the way). Something bigger has to be in the works. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. The Harden trade and Nomar trade were so damn exciting Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I believe this is the 3rd time Craig has sat in the last week
  10. Olt starting at least part time early in the year is right up there with hoping for Castro/Rizzo bounce backs on the very short list of things I'm excited for with this team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Gotta be that or a mcdouble Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Absolutely, but I think it's still fair to say he didn't build value the way they hoped. I'd assume they'd have gotten even more if he'd been lights out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. For this team to be competitive in 2015 and 2016 they need at least 2 above average starting pitchers. I like the chances of shark being one of them more than j like the chances of signing 2 guys like bailey and Max that may or may not reach free agency. I also think that in order for our pitching to sync with our hitting prospects we need to have a couple gambles pay off. Waiting to deal Garza didn't work out as planned but I'm cool with betting on shark to up his value. Unless we get a great offer now of course.
  14. If he doesn't, why would we want to extend him? Because an underwhelming first half will still likely leave him as our best starting pitcher. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. At this point unless someone blows us away. I'd rather let Shark start the season with the cubs. If he excels his trade price goes up, if he doesn't the price of extending him goes down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Ah, got it. Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Didn't we lose Hendricks to claim the Yankees reliever not long after we claimed Hendricks, or am I thinking of someone else? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Gotta be the Marlins Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. At the cost of just bogusevic, I think this was a no brainer
  20. What would be the point of making the bid with no intention of signing? I'm not sure I follow that. I can think of a couple reasons. It would give you a chance to kick the tires and see if you fall into a "always wanted to play in Chicago" situation, for one (unlikely, for sure). Second, it helps give your fan base the impression that you are doing everything you can to improve the team.
  21. Under the old system they stood to get a larger amount for posting him a year earlier (younger). Barring major injury they still see 20 mil next year, so the decision probably comes down to whether the difference between a hamburger today and a hamburger tomorrow outweighs the extra revenue they expect him to generate this year.
  22. Given their weak outfield, I wonder if something built around shark+schierholtz is as appealing to them as price? Both of them is too much for Franklin, but Schierholz wouldn't be enough. Don't they need a SS? Maybe build around Nate + Barney? I wasn't thinking those two for Franklin, more thinking out loud if we might be able to build a package starting there that could net walker+Franklin.

  24. Surely the Seth Smith trade kills that deal one would think.
  25. Garza is projected for a pretty robust 180 innings, but PECOTA hates Shark, giving him the worst numbers of any of the potential starters. 195 innings to the tune of 4.56/1.38. Ouch
