Give me Russel Branyon

I like Branyans bat a lot, but Mark Teahen or Felipe Lopez is more practical for us.

I would've thought that it would be obvious by now, but DO NOT BRING IN ANYONE WHO JUST HAD A GREAT YEAR FOR THE CARDINALS (Lopez).

Actually Lopez had l 169 at bats for the Cards and it was clearly an abberration. Lopez this yr has been closer to his career norms then his stint with the Cards. So I would mind parting with a part like Patton to get Lopez.

I like Lopez the most just for the fact once Ramirez gets back we can still use him at SS/2B. Branyan and Teahen can't play there.

One big story to follow the next few days is the progress of Aramis

Ramirez, who is now taking live BP. His return isn't too far down the

road if he doesn't have any major setbacks. He's going to have some

soreness in the shoulder, but it's something he'll have to battle

through in an effort to come back and help this team. I don't even

want to think about the alternative--the shoulder doesn't hold up and

he has to have surgery. The Cubs need his bat and presence in the

lineup badly. Let's hope he's wearing a minor league uniform soon,

which means he's close to returning to the big league roster.

From Len on Len and Bob's blog.

According to Wittenmeyer on Twitter: "Rami expected to take BP and then start 4-5 game rehab assignment."

So does that mean we could get him back this weekend?

Posted

I doubt they'd push him that hard. More likely we'll see him back next week sometime, if no setbacks.

I'd say start the rehab on Wednesday in Iowa (they play at home Wed-Fri) and if he needs additional time after that, maybe Peoria (they're home starting Sat). Not sure how they'll go about it...not real positive they'd make Ramirez go on a road trip in AAA.

ARam is set to start his rehab assignment Thurs and play 4-5 games. So it sounds like he will be back for next weeks series vs Atlanta, and just in time to face Stl.

Guzman is going to start a rehab assignment with Peoria on Thursday vs Kane County before going to Iowa for a couple appearances. Sounds like we could have him back by next weekend aslo.

Good News. Hopefully you guys get 100% A-Ram back.

Why do you care? We're much closer to last place than first place.

Darnit, why are the cubs home this weekend. Peoria would seem like a perfect day trip to make to catch a cheap look at ramirez.

ARam to return Monday according to the Trib. He will be playing a 3 game rehab assignment starting Friday in......PEORIA!

Sounds to me like they are trying to rush him back pre-ASB. Why not just try and get him completely healed and bring him back after the break in DC?

On a sidenote, I feel like I've seen a lot of Lou and Aramis one on one conversations in the dugout while he's been out. I wonder what they are discussing. Strategy, how much they suck, Aramis's health, dinner plans? I don't really see Lou having anything more than a word or two with other players, but those two will spend entire innings chatting.

Agreed. I'm of course happy to see him coming back, but given the limited number of games before the ASB he'd be able to play in and the nature of his injury I'd prefer if they just waited until after the break.

I can see the advantage of coming back before the all-star break. The break will give him a chance to ease back into playing everyday without missing as many games.

Nope, they are at Kane Cty Friday but then return home for the 4th and 5th... I'll have to go to the game on the 5th (no chance in hell I'm going to the one on the 4th).

Ah...ok...knew they were there Friday...made the assumption it was all weekend. Oops.
