All I'm saying is Has Will Carroll ever been right about anything?(No Will, crowing about the White Sox matching PECOTA's 72 win projection doesn't count since you didn't have a damn thing to do with PECOTA)

Yes, I'm pretty sure he has.

Wasn't he hot on the Prior is still effed up trail even when everybody insisted he was going to be fine?

Will Carroll weighs in the the reports of continued shoulder pain. Not encouraging...

Ramirez is still in pain, and that says a lot about how serious the dislocation that he suffered last Friday actually was. He is eventually going to need some sort of capsular tightening, a surgical procedure that's exactly what it sounds like, though there are several ways to accomplish that goal. Surgeons differ on how they prefer to do it, with the "thermal" version being the most popular, but it has its downsides. The Cubs still believe that he'll be back in six weeks, but all signs point to a more extensive stay unless the pain leaves quickly and some reasonable stability returns to the joint. At this stage, the likelihood of a recurrence is through the roof.

That sucks badly.

I just want him to return 100%. However long that takes, I'm cool with it.

It wont be long before teams are begging us to take guys like Huff, Atkins, and Blalock off their hands, so I say go out an get 1 of them and let Ramirez take all the time he needs.

Actually, when it has come to injuries or predicting injuries he's been really accurate.

If the Rangers start begging us to take Blalock off their hands, I'd more than happily take him off their hands for very little. He can play 1st and 3rd and will likely produce a mid .800s, low .900s OPS.

He is, however, also very injury prone.

If we're giving up next to nothing, I can handle that. It'd be completely disconcerting to have two high producing third basemen on the DL at once, though.

They really dont need him. The like Chris Davis at 1st and Michael Young at 3rd, so hes essentially a DH, and now that Hamiltons back, they have Andruw, Murphy, Nelson Cruz, and Marlon Byrd to pick from, so if we offered them some decent prospects and salary relief, we could have a deal.

Blalock is much better than Cruz, Byrd or Murphy and Andruw is still a question mark as to how well he'll produce all season. I could see them trading Blalock for pitching (and it's probably a good idea), but I don't think they'll be begging us to take him.

I would think they'd insist on Marshall - at least for a while.

We could probably get them to take Heilman instead. Also, Jake Fox could really thrive in Arlington. those 2 plus a prospect or 2 could do the trick.

I doubt they'd want a decent 30 year old reliever. A Marshall/Fox combo along with a mid level pitcher might interest them, but I don't see them having any interest in Heilman.

Marshall would be difficult to part with for a rent a player, and one we might not need past August at that.

Yeah, but what about Heilman?

That's Heilman pretty much to a tee, I'd think. Though I have an idea what you're getting at. :)

I see what you did there....

He's terrible about trade rumors... but he's very good with injuries.

Would anyone be more reluctant to trade Vitters in, say, a Jake Peavy (or any other) deal given the possibility that this injury might greatly accelerate whatever timetable we had on Aramis's decline?

no

The fairly strong possibility that Aramis's career is threatened by this injury (at least, his career as a very good everyday player, one of the top 3 or 4 at his position) wouldn't make you hesitant to let go your top prospect, who happens to be damn good and a 3B, in order to pick up a SP (or whatever other piece you'd theoretically and realistically be adding) who you probably don't even need to get into the playoffs?

tough call. I'm leaning towards keeping Vitters.

same here. If carroll is right about this possibly recurring and/or if it effects him the way Lee's wrist injury may/may not be effecting him...I'm hesitant.

How many can't miss prospects have the Cubs held on to instead of trading that have turned out to be complete busts? I'll take a proven major league player over a low level prospect any day of the week. Especially when the major league player is a dominant pitcher.
