I find myself wishing that Koskie's concussion issues had gone away. :(

Part of me is trying to reassure myself that with Lee, Soto, Bradley, and Soriano the team should still have enough offensive juice to keep the team winning. So yeah, Now would be a great time for Bradley, Lee, and Soto to show up.

So say the 4-6 weeks go by and were down by 5 games at the ASB. Doe you really thing that either the Brewers or the Cards are the type of teams that can run away with the division in that time frame, because I dont.

Another Cubs Blog estimates the Cubs lose about 1 win by replacing Ramirez with Freel for about 6 weeks. It's a bit more considering Miles gets a few more PA's, and there's the risk that Ramirez drops off a bit when he comes back or takes longer than 6 weeks. Still, losing even 3 games because of the injury isn't the end of the world, though it definitely removes a lot of the margin for error with other injuries and underperformance.

Man, Vizcaino and Gaudin would have helped our depth to make trades. I second the Dallas McPherson idea. He'd be cheaper to acquire than Atkins and could be Jack Cust for 8 weeks.

The Gaudin release is even more puzzling since he's been throwing exceptionally well as a starter the last few weeks

Fukudome should be included in the first sentence.

I'm not as worried about this as I should be. I think if the other starters stay healthy they'll come around enough to at least keep us in it. We'll probably pull off a deadline deal of some kind if Ramirez is gone for the season and I think our starters will be ok too. Maybe, I'm being optimistic for no reason but oh well, I have an entire summer of watching these guys until college football starts so I want to have hope.

I'm still mostly concerned about our non-Marmol bullpen.

We could always pump Bobby Scales with every PED imaginable and ride it out until he gets tested and pay him a few million under the table.

i like this idea!

I am not at all optimistic Lee, Bradley, and Soto are going to "hit like they should." I wouldn't be surprised if at the end of the year they are all .760 OPSers. At least we didn't trade everything for Matt Holliday, I don't think he's going to finish the year with an OPS above .850.

And if they're all .760 OPSers, while that would certainly be disappointing (especially Bradley), would still be a big production increase from where they're at now. Soto's at .481, Bradley at .592 and Lee at .644.

What about Mark Teahan?

Teahen would be a good aquisition, but now that the Royals seem to be for real, especially in their sickly division, they're going to want a decen return, especislly since hes their starting 3B with Gordon out.

I don't see any team willing to give the Cubs a 3b right now unless the Cubs are willing to ridiculously overpay for one.

Why would the Royals trade Teahen right now? First off, Alex Gordon is on the DL. Secondly, Kansas City is currently in first place. Third, what can the Cubs offer Kansas City for Teahen that would actually make their team better? Marmol?

I agree about Teahen, but Huff, Atkins, and Wiggignton are all guys who have no future with their teams, that are more than likely going nowhere this year, so even if they could get a few respectable pitching prospects, theyd probably be willing to move these guys.

Exactly what pitching prospects are the Cubs giving up to get any of the 3 not named Teahen? When a team is down and out for a 3b like the Cubs are right now, what do you honestly believe the asking price would be?

As much as Atkins isn't needed on the Rockies, if I'm Colorado, I just watched Atkins' trade value sky rocket over the last 24 hours. They already pillaged the Cubs for Marquis.

"Hey Hendry, I'll give you this garbage reliever that you really do not want for this starting pitcher that is guaranteed to gobble up 200 innings next year. But, you need to pay for most of the starting pitcher's salary."

"Duh, okay!"

Colorado sure learned their lesson on that one, eh? If I'm them, I'm holding out for Vitters for Atkins. Oh, and the Cubs will need to pick up the remainder of Atkins' contract.

The Rox have been actively pushing Atkins to make room for Stewart. We could probably get him for somethiglike Heilman, Hart, and a low level prospect. Same for the 2 O's.

If we gave up Heilman, just who would you replace him with? There really is noone else in our system to put in the bullpen outside of Ascanio, and seeing how Fox was called up before he was, Im thinking they want Ascanio to continue starting.

Im sure we could find some replacement for his 5.14 ERA and 1.43 whip. Id start with Stevens.

The guy has made 3 starts and has a whip of almost 1.5 and is allowing almost a hit per inning. Hes faced Colorado and Houston, who arent exactly offensive juggernauts. The one team he faced with a real offense he was shelled. I wouldnt call what hes been doing as "throwing exceptionally well". Im not saying I think he couldnt perform in out pen, but thats not saying a whole lot right now.

7 walks in 13 innings pitched in AAA.

So a better BB/9 than Marmol?

And Heilman.

Something tells me that number's not going to get better if he's promoted, though.

Nothing too new... 6-8 weeks minimum.

According to sources close to Aramis Ramirez, the MRI he underwent today confirmed the initial diagnosis of a dislocation of the left shoulder. Ramirez will undergo further tests today, the results of which will be compared to the MRI he had after partially dislocating his shoulder in 2000 as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates. The choices are few for the Cubs third baseman. If there is no new fracture found in the shoulder, he could go through an extensive rehab program and come back in 6-8 weeks. If the damage is more significant, the player will opt for surgery, which would require a 4-6 month recovery period.

Two sources confirm that even if Ramirez rehabs the shoulder and comes back this season, surgery to tighten the left shoulder capsule will almost certainly occur after the season.

The battery of tests that Ramirez will go through today includes a CT scan of the shoulder, which will give doctors better imaging of the shoulder than the original MRI.

Milwaukee Brewers doctors popper Ramirez's shoulder back into place Friday evening before Ramirez headed back to Chicago for an examination.

We could aslo talk to the Fish about Dan Uggla. They just promoted Chris Coughlan to play some 2b as well. Uggla could be a great guy to stick at third until Ramirez gets bacl.
