Best options I've come up with/seen so far:

Adrian Beltre:.207/.242/.276 career: 105 OPS+ signed through 09

Melvin Mora: .245/.302/.367 career: 110 OPS+ signed through 09 plus club option for 10

Ty Wigginton: .208/.240/.260 career: 103 OPS+ signed through 10 at $3.5 mil

Aubrey Huff: .274/.344/.451 career: 116 OPS+ signed through 09

Garrett Atkins: .224/.287/.367 career: 106 OPS+ signed through 09

Mark Loretta: .375/.483/.417 career: 100 OPS+ signed through 09

Jorge Cantu: .312/.385/.656 career: 105 OPS+ signed through 09

Mark DeRosa:.250/.311/.458 career: 97 OPS+ signed through 09

Hank Blalock:.245/.275/.520 career: 104 OPS+ signed through 09

Most likely option would probably be Huff given Hendry's history with MacPhail and their tendency to trade with each other. Rich Aurilia might be looked at by Hendry as well.

Another option might be Ronnie Belliard. He's been terrible this season, but is unhappy and posted a 120 OPS+ last year. He's signed through 09.

Ray Durham is still a free agent, but has never played 3B before. His offense would be very welcome, however, and he wouldn't cost us any players.

Cantus by far the best option, with the Orioles trio and Atkins the most realistic. Im betting that once they find out what Aramis' status is, hendry will get to work. Even if Its just a 6 weeks thing, I wouldnt be opposed to Wiggington since he can play all around the field and be of use down the line.

Wigginton would make Miles that much more unnecessary. I'd be fine with him or any of the O's trio. Cantu will likely cost too much. We might be able to dump some MiL pitching (Hart/Adkins/Wells/Stevens/Gaub/Archer - maybe one-two of those) to get Beltre.

I just wish Durham played third base.

Trib's Sullivan story is calling 4-6 weeks. I'd be 'happy' with that timeframe.

Absolutely.

Id be thrilled, but even then, you have to be very cautious with him.

Well the story's already been updated to 6-8 weeks in the front page summary.....

I wonder if that timetable gets him back at least 80% or so? If it does, he should be fine. Otherwise, he may not be close to the Aramis we know and love this season.

Even tho this will help the Brewers.

I can never and will never wish injurys on any player(s).

Hopefully A-Ram has nothing torn in his shoulder and gets healthy as fast as possible.

According to a baseball source, Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez could be lost to the team for at least a month after dislocating his left shoulder in the third inning of Friday's game in Milwaukee, ESPN1000's Bruce Levine reported.

More will be known after team doctors examine Ramirez and imaging is done on the shoulder to detect the amount of damage that was done.

According to Ramirez's agent, Paul Kinver, the Cubs' third baseman has had two other occasions during his major-league career where he had partial dislocations in his shoulder.

Ramirez had suffered a partial dislocation of his left shoulder on Aug. 28, 2000, Levine reported. He missed the remainder of the season. On August 9, 1998, Ramirez hyperextended his left shoulder. He returned to the lineup on Sept. 4.

Regardless of how long Ramirez misses, he will more than likely have to have surgery to tighten the shoulder after the season.

For now, newly acquired infielder Ryan Freel, Mike Fontenot and Bobby Scales will rotate playing third base. Ramirez missed 11 games with a strained calf muscle before rturning to the lineup on May 4.

We could probably get any of the 3 O's for Hart, Atkins, Jake Fox, and the PTBNL they owe us for Rich Hill.

Can they do an MRI on him tomorrow? And if they do, would we hear something definitive Sunday or have to wait til Monday?

Judd Sirott said in the postgame he'd have "tests" done tomorrow.

Thanks. Wonder when we'll hear something?

You people really think the Marlins are gonna trade Cantu?

If we offer up Vitters and/or Colvin, probably.

He is arbitration eligible after the year, so they might consider it if we give them a big haul. I wouldn't give up what they'd likely want, though.

cantu isn't really a third baseman, although i suppose he's passable there.

He can hit the ball well and we're desperate. That's enough for me - if he doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Thats like saying if we offer up a brand new BMW and/or a half eaten Big Mac

Seriously though, I wouldnt trade Vitters for a rent player, but he is arb eligible, and the Marlins might be inclined to trade him before the time comes.

No but Fontenot sortof can. So you got Ray Ray at 2b and fontenot at 3b. Font is better than any FAS 3b available and Ray is still a pretty good 2b and better than Miles/Scales.

And this is not anywhere near as fatal as the Furcal/DLee catastophe a couple years ago.

Bradley will hit.

And who cares if Soto doesnt go centerfield/RF. Dude is a pull hitter, let him rip it and drive the damn ball. Its not like he is a free swinging pull hitter. His walk total is still good. He will come around.

Maybe this team will have to work harder than i thought and wont achieve 97 wins. But they are still deep offensively and still playoff contenders. Just get in the playoffs with all the pieces, thats all ive asked.

Link? I'd be absolutely thrilled with that.... but I'm not getting my hopes up

Really though I don't see how he could no that without an MRI even done yet

That'd be better than the status quo, but I have my doubts that it'd be a feasible alternative. I just don't think Fontenot can hold down third on a long term basis.
