None of the 3 O's are putting up great numbers thus far, in fact Wigg and Mora are on the dismal side, so Im assuming theyd be pretty cheap. Wiggington is the most versatile offensively, so if Ram comes back, he could be made a utility man.

Huff .274/.344/.451 4 HR

Wiggington .208/.240/.260 1 HR

Mora .245/.302/.367 2 HR

How did it happen? I missed it...thankfully I guess..

Braun hit one down the line and Aramis dove to stop it. The play itself looked pretty harmless but he immediately started rolling around in pain and grabbing his hand and then his shoulder. It looked reallllllyyyyy bad

If his is going to linger awhile, how much is left on his contract? Is it insured?

5 years/$75M (2007-11), plus 2012 club option

re-signed by Cubs as a free agent 11/06

$5M signing bonus

07:$8M, 08:$14M, 09:$15.65M, 10:$15.75M, 11:$14.6M player option, 12:$16M club option ($2M buyout)

full no-trade clause 2007-10, $1M assignment bonus if traded

Ramirez has right to void contract after 2010 & become a free agent

Dream all you want guys, but Ryan Freel is gonna be our starting 3B until Aramis gets back.

I think we'll see more of Aaron Miles. He's very versatile. I've heard he can play every position. Signing him in the offseason looks like a prescient move now.

If its a 6 week-2 month type of thing, you might be right, but if its more than that, I expect a move sooner than later.

I just don't see how this team can compete and expect to win without Ramirez for any significant period of time.

Welp, time to pack it in and tank for Harper.

If I'm correct with this, Ramirez has been 'worth' just about a win per month over replacement the past 3 years. The Cubs might survive the loss of a couple wins, but we're already in a hole and the Cards and Brewers appear better than advertised. Oh, and I'm not sure we have a replacement level starter on the 40 man roster. Not good.

I know I'm just repeating myself, but Soto needs to get his [expletive] together, like, yesterday. Hit the treadmill, lay off the junk food and get back into the mix, son.

Ramirez previously suffered a hyperextended left shoulder in his rookie year with Pittsburgh in 1998, and missed the final month of the 2000 season with left shoulder subluxation.

Lee, Soto and Bradley have all been pretty much worthless so far this year so if those three can just start putting up offensive numbers closer to what would be expected they can replace a lot of Ramirez's production to date. He had already missed 11 of the 29 games so it was not like he had been carrying the team on his back so far anyway.

Soto looks plain bad. Even Bradley puts together some solid at bats when at his worst, but Soto has given me no reason to believe hes going to come back anytime soon, and we could really, really use him now.

Best options I've come up with/seen so far:

Adrian Beltre:.207/.242/.276 career: 105 OPS+ signed through 09

Melvin Mora: .245/.302/.367 career: 110 OPS+ signed through 09 plus club option for 10

Ty Wigginton: .208/.240/.260 career: 103 OPS+ signed through 10 at $3.5 mil

Aubrey Huff: .274/.344/.451 career: 116 OPS+ signed through 09

Garrett Atkins: .224/.287/.367 career: 106 OPS+ signed through 09

Mark Loretta: .375/.483/.417 career: 100 OPS+ signed through 09

Jorge Cantu: .312/.385/.656 career: 105 OPS+ signed through 09

Mark DeRosa:.250/.311/.458 career: 97 OPS+ signed through 09

Hank Blalock:.245/.275/.520 career: 104 OPS+ signed through 09

Most likely option would probably be Huff given Hendry's history with MacPhail and their tendency to trade with each other. Rich Aurilia might be looked at by Hendry as well.

Another option might be Ronnie Belliard. He's been terrible this season, but is unhappy and posted a 120 OPS+ last year. He's signed through 09.

Ray Durham is still a free agent, but has never played 3B before. His offense would be very welcome, however, and he wouldn't cost us any players.

Cantus by far the best option, with the Orioles trio and Atkins the most realistic. Im betting that once they find out what Aramis' status is, hendry will get to work. Even if Its just a 6 weeks thing, I wouldnt be opposed to Wiggington since he can play all around the field and be of use down the line.

well that was necessary

What isn't necessary is your repeated "season is over" type of posts in multiple threads. Teams can and do overcome injuries to key players. Hendry has his work cut out for him, but it is possible to overcome this.
