With the addition of DeRo, the Indians now have the prettiest team in all of Baseball. We have officially gained the female fanbase.

Could DeRo hit leadoff? I'd really like to see Sizemore moved down in the lineup. But, I doubt that will happen.

So, this is the potential Indians' lineup for now:

Sizemore

DeRo

Martinez

Hafner

Peralta

Garko

Choo

Francisco

Cabrera

Although, the 3-4-5 spots could go any which way, and Choo could make a case for the three spot if he hits like he did at the end of last year.

Can we have Zambrano too, please?

Is DeRosa at third in your lineup? I kinda thought he'd replace either Asdrubal or Peralta, but third might be a decent option as well.

Cubs acquired RHP Jeff Stevens, RHP Chris Archer and LHP John Gaub from the Indians for infielder Mark DeRosa.

Contrary to what sportswriters and broadcasters would have you believe, DeRosa obviously isn't perceived as being especially valuable, even after his career season. Stevens is the best prospect of this group. He was supposed to be Team USA's closer in the Olympics, but he was bumped from the role after blowing his first chance. The 25-year-old has subpar command of pretty good stuff. He may yet turn into a setup man, but he shouldn't figure into the Cubs' plans for the beginning of 2009. Archer, 20, was a fifth-rounder in 2006. He has a power arm that may fit in the pen, but he has a lot to overcome after walking 84 in 115 1/3 innings in low-A ball. Gaub is another relief possibility. Unlike Archer, he might be a candidate to jump to Double-A next year.

JeffH probably has me blocked.

Why would I deprive myself of such rock-solid entertainment?

Roto...We didn't even get one of their top ten?? Jesus

Indians acquired infielder Mark DeRosa from the Cubs for RHP Jeff Stevens, RHP Chris Archer and LHP John Gaub.

It figured that DeRosa would appeal to a bunch of teams if the Cubs were making him available, but the Indians were able to pick him up without surrending one of their top 10 prospects. That DeRosa turns 34 in February, is entering the last year of his deal and is no longer viewed as an above average defensive infielder clearly hurt his trade value. The Indians apparently will shift him to third rather than move both Jhonny Peralta and Asdrubal Cabrera. He could be a fair regular there for a year, but the Indians would be making a mistake if they chose to commit to him beyond 2009.

I wasn't being sarcastic. Meph's contributions are worthwhile.

DeRosa for Peavy (essentially) is an upgrade. He is a major league top ten pitcher.

Third in the lineup? Or do you mean playing third base? Peralta played a lot of third last year, so I'm not sure how that will all work out.

How is that essentially?

Love this move especially if it results in us landing Peavy. DeRosa will probably never match the year he had last year so dump him while you can for some solid prospects.

He's really not, even if you don't give relief pitchers a bonus for leverage. He's top-25, though.

Neither of Chicago's moves expected to trigger a trade for Peavy. Sources tell ESPN that there are no ongoing talks between the Cubs and Padres involving Peavy

I meant third base, sorry. BR has Peralta with just nine games played in his career at third, with just one there last year.

Wow. I could have sworn he took over for Casey Blake last year. I must be losing my mind.

Marte played a decent amount, but for the life of me I can think who else could have played third.

I don't think that word means what you think it means...

Well, I consider today's happenings to be a transgression upon decency.

I don't like the fact that the Cubs apparently need to trim the payroll to get Milton-freaking-Bradley, a volatile injury risk who reminds me way too much of Rondell White, when Peavy was theirs for the taking at a lower price. I hope this is a quick-fix maneuver to settle the ship until new ownership gets the keys (soon, please???)

That said, I don't mind that the Cubs appear to be looking to add two left-handed bats while decreasing their reliance on a right-handed late-bloomer who will probably regress in '09. And DeRosa has more than proven himself one of the team's most reliable postseason choke artists. Between the bases-loaded GDP against Arizona and the botched GDP against the Dodgers, the man has shown an affinity for producing landmark forgettable moments at Wrigley when the Cubs need him most. Get out of here with your wind-blown home runs if you don't like what I'm saying.

Some people think these moves are trangressions.

As for Peavy, that situation is not directly related to any of these moves. As I blogged, the ownership situation has to sort itself out first.

Bruce, at this point it does seem like the Cubs are moving backwards instead of forward. What do you make of all this?
