Not sure if anybody posted this but there was a sportscenter update on ESPN1000 that the indians were close to aquiring Derosa from the Cubs for 2-3 pitching prospects. I find this interesting since they're pitching prospects and the Padres want pitching prospects.

My guess this deal has been 2-3 years in the making, with the Cubs transforming Kerry Wood into a closer and then not re-signing him and stearing his move to Cleveland, in turn the Cleveland agreed to not sign Derosa when he was a FA from Texas allowing him to sign with Chicago at a bargain rate. Now Cleveland will give the needed pitching prospects for him that in turn will alow us to deal for Peavy. Interesting.

You know who I wouldn't mind getting in this deal: Asdrubal Cabrera.

That would be all kinds of excellent. There is still a need for 1 more IF backup, assuming Cedeno isn't back.

The Cubs wouldn't just be getting rid of DeRosa for propsects. Those prospects will be going to somebody else, so we can get another good player.

Hmmm, interesting. Any guesses on which prospects?

I'll miss DeRo but it's nice to sell high for a change.

The Indians have a pretty good collection of young arms in the low minors. Obviously, Adam Miller won't be coming back in this trade, I don't think. But I think David Huff is the type of guy that San Diego would be enamored with.

Of course, if Derosa goes, he'll be traded for prospect for the peavy deal. Any chance the cubs could ship Theriot, Derosa and Cedeno for Peralta and the necessary prospects for the peavy deal.

No GM in their right mind would trade Derosa for Soo straight up.

I know, just commenting. Though it's pretty obvious we probably wouldn't even keep any of these prospects we get from the Indians.

I'd like to think that's what's going on here. It just seems too perfect though. If Hendry can pull it all off: ship Marquis out, sign Bradley and trade for Peavy, you gotta give the guy some credit.

Not to mention that the report states pitching prospects. Who are the Indians top pitching prospects?

Yeah, I'd imagine Huff as the centerpiece. Then I think you see a guy closer to the majors like maybe Jonathan Meloan.

Maybe Jeremy Sowers, Anthony Reyes or Aaron Laffey could be part of this deal. I can see the Padres interested in those guys, when you think about who they wanted from the Orioles and Phillies in the past.

I can see them asking about Sowers or Laffey.

Huff was just drafted and signed during the '08 June draft, making him ineligible to be part of a package now, I believe.

Just to confirm this, i wasn't sure at first but i heard the sportscenter update again and it said the Indians were close to aquiring Derosa for pitching prospects. If this doesn't signal peavy to the cubs i dont know what does.

I suppose I could be wrong about that.

ETA: He was drafted in '06.

It isn't obvious to everyone else that the plan is:

Sign Miles to fill DeRosa's spot, trade DeRosa to Indians for prospects to spin to SD for Peavy?

It is to me.

They're setting us up. We'll get Cleveland's pitching prospects and then Hendry will talk about how great it is to restock the farm system with some new arms.
