  1. Welp. This team STINKS. They've wasted probably the best seasons that Stroman and Swanson will ever have. The farm system is good, but there are no guaranteed all-stars in the bunch. We could be bad for a loooooong time.
  2. It's an acceptable line. People are clamoring for a new center, but both Whitehair and Patrick are better at C than probably literally anyone we have on the D-line is at their position. Unless that is rectified in the draft and/or with training camp cuts, the offense will have to put up 30 points per game to even be competitive next year as their D line is one of the worst position groups in the entire NFL.
  3. I've been doing like a million of the draft simulator things. While I love the idea of trading down for more picks, it would be tough to have the #1 pick and not end up with a guy who is a day 1 starter and likely pro-bowler. Overall, I looked at the roster again and can't believe how bad the defensive line/edge is. If they used 4 picks on the defensive line, I wouldn't bat an eye--there's a chance all 4 of those guys would get the most playing time on the D-line this year, it's that bad currently.
  4. The guy has gotten worse both of the last 2 years prior to this one and the 2nd half of last year on the Twins was worse than the 1st half with the Tigers. It's more than a this year thing. Obviously I wouldn't expect him to have a 8.68 ERA and 1.93 WHIP all season, but combined with the previous couple of years of performance, I don't really know why it was ever expected that he would be a major part of a competitive bullpen. For a team that is probably going to be tracking within 1-3 games of making/missing the playoffs, every game that he pitches in could be the difference in the season outcome. Same with Hosmer and Torrens on the offensive side. This isn't like Juan Soto having a rough April.
  5. No words from the Fulmer supporters after another bad outing on Sunday in a less pressure (but still relevant) game situation. It's bad. Real bad. Guy doesn't need to see any part of a close game until something gets figured out.
  6. Does Verlander throw 60% of his pitches at 79 now? The old 1.80 WHIP is looking awesome. Guy was afraid to throw a strike to Jason Heyward in the year 2023.
  7. He has thrown more than 1/2 of his pitches this season as cutters that average 89.6 mph. Also, 96 is basically every single relief pitcher in baseball in 2023. He shouldn't be pitching in high leverage situations for a decent team. There's a reason he was signed so late. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/michael-fulmer-605242?stats=statcast-r-pitching-mlb
  8. Why is this guy pitching in the 9th inning? Every other team in the league is closing with a guy who throws 99 and has a wipeout slider and we're trotting out a soft tossing crafty veteran who is trying to pitch like Mariano Rivera and failing spectacularly. Fire this guy into the sun (or the 6th inning).
  9. Even if the hot start is a mirage and Wisdom settles in to the .230/.300/.500 range (like he was in 2021) with solid defense at 3B and positional flexibility to occasionally give you some innings in the outfield and 1B, that's a 2-3 win player for $763,000 this year then 3 years of arbitration after. A very valuable commodity even throughout his arbitration years.
  10. Maybe dumb question. If he opts out, are we allowed to offer him the Qualifying Offer and get compensation if he signs elsewhere (or, possibly, use it to offset our signing of another QO free agent)?
  11. I would like access to the Social/Non-Sports Forums. Thanks.
  12. I'd love it. Not sure how much they'll be willing to go down that road after the Addison Russell fiasco, though. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2850051-dodgers-julio-urias-suspended-20-games-for-violating-domestic-violence-policy
  13. I see people continuing to suggest trading down for more and more picks. I understand the team sucks and you need a ton of talent, but to not even get a blue chip player out of the #1 overall pick would hurt. I like DJ Moore, but don't consider him a blue chip guy (which I'll define as a top 5 player at your position or top150 player in the entire league). Maybe you don't get one of those at #9, either, but you at least give yourself a better chance than at 15 or whatever. I still probably would have just taken whatever Houston was willing to give to move to #1 and take Will Anderson #2 overall unless you subsequently got bowled over by an offer the night of the draft. I think Anderson could be a Myles Garrett type guy and will be an awesome blue chip level player.
  14. And followed it up by going down 17-0 and 23-1 en route to a 20+ point loss where Embiid only had to play 16 minutes in the whole game, LOL.
  15. I may or may not believe all of this, but here's a bullet point list that I would imagine would be used in the pitch: 1. One of probably the 5 most historic franchises in baseball 2. Top 2 baseball market in the US 3. One of the 2 easiest divisions in baseball and an easier road to the postseason 4. Top 5 farm system that will place several prospects in the majors in 2024 and 2025 5. 2023 team just won 82 games and is on the right track 6. We're also going to sign another big free agent to help out (Giolito? Matt Chapman?) 7. Positive reviews of the organization and how they take care of players/families (nutrition, training, helping acclimate to Chicago, etc.)
  16. This will eventually be a thing, no better time than now after he closed out the WBC and had an outstanding tournament. Here are my thoughts: 1. Unless a team has a chance to win a World Series this year (which, thanks to the new rules, is nearly half the league!), I don't see any way they trade for him because the cost will be astronomical and then you ALSO have to give him a preposterous contract. 2. I see no way his contract is less than $400M total value and probably gets to $500M pretty easily. 3. While it would be the most exciting FA signing in the history of baseball, I can't blame any team for not giving him, say 12/$500M. I know everything he has done so far is once is a lifetime and irreplaceable, but I also don't see how he keeps it up for even 5 more years, let alone 12. 4. But if he does sign with the Cubs, my kids will both have a jersey day 1 and it will be very good for the franchise in the short term.
  17. Guillermo Zuniga is a Colombian reliever in the WBC and is now in the Cards organization after stints in the Dodgers and Braves organizations. He has dominated in the WBC and I fully expect him to be great for the Cards after being just a guy previously. When he's got 75 IP with like 5 total earned runs later in the season and we all hate his guts, you heard it here first.
  18. Makes absolutely ZERO sense to me why a rebuilding Kansas City would trade Mondesi at his absolute lowest value for a middle reliever. I'm truly stunned. I would have taken Mondesi to be the Cubs everyday 3B (when healthy) for that return 10 times out of 10.
  19. For some reason, the Cubs are having a Noon CST press conference to introduce Trey Mancini. It will be broadcast on Marquee. Better than infomercials, I guess.
  20. Yeah, I'll take Hosmer for $720K instead. Go sign Mancini for $8.5M and get both sides of the platoon for the price of 1.
  21. Kingsbury was also the exception in that he wasn't a particularly good college coach either. 35-40 overall, 2 winning seasons out of 6(and none in his most recent 3), never more than 8 wins in a season(his first season). Texas Tech can be hard to recruit to, but not that hard. I also wonder who in their right mind would want to coach in college these days. With the portal, you're basically re-recruiting 70 guys every year plus all of the HS recruiting and transfers in addition to all of the alumni ass kissing you have to do. I know you make a ton of money and have an army of assistants, but if you can go be an NFL OC and make a couple million bucks instead of going to deal with all of the nonsense in college, not necessarily sure why you wouldn't just take the OC job.
  22. The last true "impact bat" off the market. Giants almost had to do this after the Correa debacle.
  23. My HOT TAKE is that I don't see how the Ohtani contract ends well for anyone. For him to get even CLOSE to his true value, you're looking at $50M per year, honestly probably like $60-$75M per if he does what he has the last 2 years. If you're doing that contract, you have to commit to having a 2023 Mets payroll for the entire length of the contract or you won't be able to be competitive unless you develop like the Rays for a solid decade. While I love that Cohen is doing that payroll in 2023 and every single owner has more money than God, I don't see that happening for anyone, especially the Cubs. Not to mention, how on earth does Ohtani keep this up another 10 years? What he has done in 2021 and 2022 has never been done in the history of the sport and to count on him continuing that into his late 30s/early 40s just seems impossible. That being said, as a fan, those first few years watching Ohtani would probably be the coolest thing you could ever see outside of winning a championship.
