  1. UGH Yeah, I would have preferred this risk over Jay.
  2. Meh. They only led that game because the officials picked up a flag on a blatant hold when they scored on 4th and Goal. And OU is going to beat the piss out of them on Saturday anyway, so it will likely be a non-issue. If they do win vs OU, though, they could have the distinction (infamy?) of having spurred the 4-team playoff (by getting left out at 11-1 in 2011 in favor of an LSU/Alabama rematch) and possibly spurring in the 8 team playoff if all hell breaks loose and they institute it after this year.
  3. In the world of future value and not being arbitration eligible. Edwards and Colome? Sure, I can see that. But, I'm an Almora fan. And in no way, shape, or form do I think he's giving us 13 WAR in any 3 year period, like Kiermaier just has done. They'd want, rightfully so, much more than Almora for him. Oh, on field value, if Almora ever gets those WAR numbers, I'd be surprised. I'm more thinking from the "our franchise has no money" perspective, but, yeah, that's probably still not enough value for Kiermaier.
  4. Was just coming to post that. Sign me the horsefeathers up 7 days a week there. Kiermaier and Colome are basically equal to Almora/Edwards, so you're essentially getting Archer for Happ and Soler. Um, in what world are Almora and Edwards equal to Kiermaier and Colome? But yeah, that's one of the.worst trade proposals I've ever seen. In the world of future value and not being arbitration eligible.

  6. OK, thanks. So basically if no one picks him up, he gets the league minimum or whatever his lowest arbitration number would have been? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_for_assignment Also see my edit. Cool. Thanks much!
  7. You can just DFA a guy who got injured while on the Major League roster last year? I didn't know that. Even in the NFL, you get an injury settlement. You still have to pay him whatever he's owed on his contract if he goes unclaimed/isn't traded. OK, thanks. So basically if no one picks him up, he gets the league minimum or whatever his lowest arbitration number would have been?

  9. If Contreras OPSs .877 and those bullpen numbers hold up, the league may have to disband the Cubs for the good of the sport.
  10. I need some hockey minds that have been following more closely to confirm. Obviously they are playing like a beast right now and that's super encouraging but I do remember reading that they were winning despite poor CORSI/possession numbers which screams a bit of regression is due. I'm still wary of their overall depth with so many rookies and that this will eventually hurt them as the season goes on (not to the point of missing the playoffs or anything, just to the point where they aren't taking points in every single game). Your suspicions are correct. Crawford on pace to have a 5 on 5 save percentage that is among the all-time best seasons ever. But, over the past 3 games or so, their possession numbers have increased.
  11. The Blackhawks are good at the hockey. #HotTake
  12. This. They'd require something insane like Schwarber, Baez, and more for either guy. In fair value, Sale for Schwarber + small parts is probably about right. Quintana for Baez + also. If the Cubs could get either guy without giving up Schwarber, Baez, Addison, Contreras, or Eloy, I'm in. Soler, Almora, and Happ +, I'd do it in a second.
  13. Any word on supply and/or timeframe? No word on either. I'm assuming the draft will last longer than the bottles for sale.
  14. For those of you off today and/or out and about in the city, a little birdie told me that the Goose Island Taproom on Wood has 2015 Bourbon County Stout on draft and BOTTLES of 2015 Bourbon County Rare for sale today.
  15. Absolutely not. Home is the best place to watch a game focus and comfort-wise. A bar is probably the worst, though it is extremely fun to be around people when something legitimately awesome happens. Being actually at the game is great for the reactions and being a part of that scene, but unless you have headphones, you miss a lot on the broadcast or TV.
  16. John Barleycorn is charging $225 for 1 entree, 1 appetizer, and drinks from 7p-9p. LOL.
  17. I trust Schwarber more to make contact against Miller then Soler. Yep. The only way Schwarber comes out of the game as a DH is if he looks like absolute trash up there (doubtful) or for a pinch runner in a mid-late game situation. It's going to be a tough call if, say, he doubles in a middle inning like the 6th in a close game, but they'll probably run for him there.
  18. Everyone keeps saying this Cubs season has been "unbelievable" and stuff like that when, in reality, it hasn't been that unbelievable. In fact, it has been accurately planned by some of the smartest baseball minds on earth. This Schwarber news is unbelievable.
  19. To put that in perspective, the worst PK in the league is around 75% ish by the end of the season. Just setting up for not allowing a goal on the PK from about New Year's until the end of the season.
  20. why not just use Lackey as a reliever? That's the option, but how many times has he pitched in relief? Would he be better than Cahill/Rob Z/whoever else? I mean, the upgrade of those guys over Lackey in some sort of mythical 14 inning game 7 is probably negligible and not worth risking punishment from MLB, but it could be worth it in some instance.
  21. I can't find anything online that discourages it besides "Commissioner's Discretion", but why wouldn't every single team fake an injury for their 4th starter in the World Series and replace them with another normal pen arm? In earlier rounds, the player is ineligible for the next round, but there is no such rule/punishment for the World Series. It does say that a pitcher must be replaced by a pitcher, but I guess the possibility that you need the 4th guy to pitch long relief or something? What I'm saying is that if they don't sweep, they should fake a Lackey injury and activate another reliever.
  22. I'm mostly OK with it. Would have gone Willson in the OF and Ross behind the plate with Heyward on the bench, though.
  23. I've had a crick in my neck since the Giants clincher that was caused by fist pumping and waving guys around 3rd base in my living room.
  24. You can only be selected once according to their email.
