  1. I know Louisville's QB has been ridiculous but I think FSU beats them. Too much talent everywhere else. Agreed. FSU -2.5 feels like stealing, right? I just put down a sizeable wager on that before it went up and now I'm going to spend all week feeling like I missed something.
  2. Good to see Sitton (and Long) graded well, and on defense seeing the 2 biggest FA signings in Freeman and Trevathan have a good showing, along with 2nd year guy Amos. Not surprising that the DL and OTs weren't top performers. Pleasant surprise with the corners. I thought Hall looked decent as well. Good thing we drafted Kevin White instead of Todd Gurley knowing that they would move on from Matt Forte after the season. White looks like trash and there have been exactly 0 flashes of his speed/athleticism, even in the preseason.
  3. yup. the difference between polls this week is kinda funny The preseason poll is the dumbest thing on earth, so I'm OK with these new rankings.
  4. I really blew it. That title basically wrote itself. I feel shame. Great shame.
  5. [tweet] [/tweet]
  6. In the 8/31 lineup. No word on corresponding move. I'm assuming Patton or Pena goes down.
  7. Long extra inning game or a starter getting hurt early in a game is pretty much all I've got. In which case I'd rather have Cahill, anyway, due to his experience actually pitching in relief recently.
  8. NLDS Roster: P (11): Arrieta, Lester, Hendricks, Lackey, Chapman, Rondon, Strop, Wood, Monty, Edwards, Grimm IF (6): Rizzo, Zobrist, Russell, Bryant, Baez, LaStella (LH PH) C (3): Contreras, Ross, Miggy OF (5): Heyward, Fowler, Soler, Szczur, Almora (late inning defense) If they don't want Miggy and/or LaStella on the roster, I'd assume they'd take Cahill and/or Coghlan. I don't see any situation where Hammel makes the roster unless Lackey comes back and pitches like trash all of September and/or is hurt.
  9. Man, the early 90s Cubs had some [expletive] free agent signings. HoJo, Danny Jackson, Kal Daniels, Dave Smith, George Bell (until he turned into Sosa), etc... Good lord, 90-97 Cubs were trash. I occasionally recommend the book "Entangled in Ivy" for an insider look at the late-80's/early-to-mid-90's Cubs. It's probably been 8-9 years since I read it but IIRC a lot of that was the Tribune Co. pushing MacPhail to make those signings because they were somewhat known names that would help bring more fans to Wrigley even if they were mostly over the hill. That's both unsurprising and completely annoying.
  10. Man, the early 90s Cubs had some shitty free agent signings. HoJo, Danny Jackson, Kal Daniels, Dave Smith, George Bell (until he turned into Sosa), etc... Good lord, 90-97 Cubs were trash.
  11. Same. Only thing better, IMO would have been 3 and 5 of the WS. Going to suck if they make it and I won't be at the first WS game. Though having 4 and 5 gives the only chances to see a home clinch.
  12. I get trying to ride a rental and he had little choice yesterday, but Maddon's usage of Chapman has been Dusty-esque at best and completely careless at worst. He's thrown like 2? Pitches of 100 or more all week.
  13. Damn right, even though I just looked up his splits, and everything about his second half numbers managing to somehow be even WORSE made me scream and melt like I just looked at Ark. .169 .231 .254 .484 http://i.giphy.com/xT5LMqcLeP78ukYBu8.gif Yeah, his entire season is the biggest "eye test" I've ever seen. I literally hate watching him bat, but am at least realizing why he's still a valuable member of the team and likely worth his contract. It's not easy to reconcile.
  14. As of this morning, Fangraphs has Heyward at a 1.3 WAR, with him ranked as the 10th best defender in all of baseball. He's also the 50th best baserunner in all of baseball. If the value of a win on the FA market is $8MM, he's already been worth over $10M in value in 2/3rds of a season (on pace for $15M) in which he has been batting like trash. We'll still get value out of this contract and anyone who thinks otherwise is just wrong, despite it being painful to watch him hit most of the time.
  15. That came from the Yankees side, if I'm not mistaken. Personally, I find it highly unlikely we'd move Eloy, especially right now. His value once he hits the upper levels and produces will dwarf what it is now. Torres was going to be our SS prospect that was legit blocked. Much easier for us to move him. When you are in a rebuilding mode, when in doubt pick the SS. If they pan out and stay there--or even have to move 2B, much better value there as an average hitter than a very good (not great) hitting RF.
  16. Yep. 6 is historically the ideal number (average number of teams in the final regular season poll in a major conference with 1 loss or an undefeated minor conference team ranked in the top 10 of the polls), but everyone will want 8.
  17. Look, I don't feel great about him being on the team, but [expletive] that was fun to watch last night.
  18. Yankees fans are morons. They are getting potentially the next Jeter and at least the next Castro for 2 months of a wife beater. Pretty good return.
  19. No doubt, but they're making themselves seem like they are this bastion of equality that is fighting for a group when this is basically a good publicity grab that isn't costing them any money. I get it, but it's also super hippocritical.
  20. Mexico and China is kind of an...odd comparison, but valid point about China. Sadly, there's zero chance they dare alienating what's now actually their biggest market. Agreed. This is just a fake thing that will make them look good. Mexico isn't anywhere near China in the human rights discussion, but they are still pretty unfriendly to the LGBT community in general.
  21. I like how the NBA won't play the ASG in NC, but has no problem playing in the bastion of human rights that is China. And they're playing 2 games in Mexico this year, too.
  22. The absolute largest package I'd give up for Sale would be this and it's almost definitely too much to give up for 1 pitcher who could die tomorrow: Schwarber, Happ, Torres I don't know if the Sox would take that just because it's the Cubs. If Sale was on the Twins or something, they'd take that in a heartbeat.
  23. Seattle a much better climate for a fat guy. With a ton of great beer so he can stay fat and happy forever. I know I would. The older and fatter I get, the more a Seatlle-like climate is more appealing to me than a Florida-like climate.
  24. Agreed, but he's from Florida. Seattle a much better climate for a fat guy.
  25. I want Lee between them, but both are some solid names James Paxton is also currently at AAA. I'd like him.
