  1. The Cubs ticket resale market is garbage right now. Demand WAY down from previous years. I can't sell tickets for this upcoming homestand at face value on StubHub (more for the buyers because of the fees, I get it, but still). I've given away a handful of games and only made profit on the Opening Series and Yankees games. If anyone wants tickets for Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday for face or slightly below, DM me.
  2. Maybe we could trade him to the Yankees for Gleyber Torres...
  3. Just saw this. I don't think you know what "Poor Man's" means. I think you mean "anti" Kris Bryant or "bizarro" Kris Bryant. Unless you're one of the "Kris Bryant is a closet alcoholic" truthers, in which case, I tip my cap.
  4. Completely agree. I actually think the Brewers will be our biggest competition going forward.
  5. Yeah, the Wings got 3 Cups from their core and then another one 6 years later. That's the hope for this group of Hawks. No one can complain about much as 3 is more than you normally get, especially in the salary cap era. Bowman was great rebuilding after the great salary cap purge post-2011, but his recent moves have left a lot to be desired. The Bickell and Seabrook contracts are just awful and will cripple the franchise for years. The Bickell one cost them Saad and Teuvo and everyone knew his postseason was a mirage. Obviously no one could have predicted MS, but he wasn't worth that cash even if he remained the player he was. Oh well, let's just hope Toews isn't completely ruined and they can have one last cup run sometime in the next 5 years.
  6. The Seabrook contract was terrible when they first did it. He should have been the sacrificial lamb from the core.
  7. I had the Chicken Al Pastor Tacos at the Sheffield Counter/Decade Diner/whatever the hell it's called these days last night. Tremendous. But the service was a complete cluster. They were taking orders in record amount of time, but the small prep area (the cook/make everything at least semi to order) led to a long wait for the food (10-15 minutes at least). In summary: it was very good and everything that everyone else was ordering also looked very good, but don't expect quick service, at least before a sold out game.

  9. Had it last night. It was pretty good, but a bit too greasy. Still recommend getting it, though.
  10. Home Plate Ump is also (correctly) sick of St. Louis and ready to get the hell out of there.

  12. Conspiracy theory: They're actively managing Lester's innings and giving him the best matchup while riding Arrieta into the ground 2008 Brewers CC Sabathia style.
  13. The worst pitcher on this list is Scott Feldman, by far. The worst excuse is the Angels. How the hell do you have prime Mike Trout and end career Pujols and just mail in the rest of the roster? The Marlins get a pass because of the Fernandez thing and the Padres are just obviously tanking.
  14. Yes. And it is confirmed that it is this space in RF, accessible to all in the regular seating bowl (not bleachers). You can get anywhere from the bleachers Really? Shows how often I sit in the bleachers.
  15. i believe that year they were doing decade themed homestands Yes. And it is confirmed that it is this space in RF, accessible to all in the regular seating bowl (not bleachers).
  16. Oh, OK, good. It had been known as the "Decade Diner" the past few years, or maybe that was just 2014 for the 100th anniversary. This place has long had the "best" food in the common areas at Wrigley. Edit: Picture
  17. Does anyone know where exactly this "Sheffield Counter" is located? I'm assuming it's in the bleachers as that's the only part of the park that actually borders Sheffield, but it doesn't specifically say where it is like it does for Platform 14, which is definitely in the bleachers.
  18. Yeah, my friend's dad says he backed out of a deal to buy one of the rooftop buildings for like $175K in the 80s and rues it to this day. To be fair, he was a public school teacher not exactly rolling in cash.
  19. Yeah. Ultimately for the long-term future of the franchise, it's better that we won it under Theo/Jed than we would have been if we won a "lightning in a bottle" title under Hendry like the White Sox did, but there will always be a part of me that loves the 03 and 07/08 teams and wishes they would have won.
  20. Princeton did very well executing their strategy. Matt Farrell plays too much hero-ball down the stretch and today was the first time it looked like it pissed Brey off. Princeton executed well until they jacked up a 25 footer while down 1. Take it to the rack!
  21. In no particular order, just a list from the top of my head: World Series Game 4 World Series Game 5--I've never been more nervous NLCS Game 6--OK, this is the best one. Just absolute joy and mayhem. NLCS Game 1--MIGGY! NLDS Game 1--JAVY! NLDS Game 2 NLDS Clincher vs. the Cardinals--The Schwarber bomb was just unbelievable in person. NLCS games in 2015, though we just got our ass handed to us in both Opening Day 2017--Addison's HR was incredible Opening Day 2008--Kosuke game-tying 3 run HR (they lost in extras, but that moment was awesome) Cubs vs. Brewers 2001 when Wood threw a 1 hitter and Rondell White hit a HR Mongo McMichael yelling at the umpire game in 2001 Mark Prior's 1st game in May (?) 2002 Cubs/Pirates division clinching DH in 2003. We had a previously scheduled open bar party at a local bar after that game. I have no idea how I did not end up in the hospital that night. 2008 Division clincher vs. the Cards 2007 Playoff game vs. D'Backs--it was like 90 degrees in October. The stadium was shaking when we loaded the bases, then DeRosa hit into a DP and everyone knew the series was over Cubs/A's in 2004 when Todd Walker scored the winning run with a Superman slide crossing home plate Cubs-Yankees 2003--Hee Seop Choi got hurt and Karros denied Clemens going for his 300th win. Mike Remlinger had an incredible fist-pump that game. Opening Day 2004--everyone thought we were a shoo-in for the playoffs that year (Oops) The first game after 9/11 in 2001 when Sosa hit a HR and carried the little American flag around the bases with him. Sammy is/was/will always be the man. Our little league went to the last game at Wrigley before the strike in 1994. That was an odd feeling in the stadium as everyone knew what was coming. One of the first games I went to as a kid in the 80s was an 18 or so-inning Cubs/Cards game. We were on a bus trip so we had no choice but to stay for the whole game because that was the trip's rule. I think that game took 5 years off of my parents' life dealing with 2 kids under the age of 8 for 5+ hours at a game. Road: Maddux's 300th win in SF in 2004. We had the trip planned before the season and that was the best timing luck ever. We also got to drink with some of the team at a bar later that night. After that, we knew the team was going nowhere, they were none too shy with voicing their displeasure with other "factions" of the team. Cubs/Rays in Tampa in 2008--we lost on a walk-off squeeze Cubs/Brewers in Milwaukee in 2010--only because we watched the Blackhawks/Preds unbelievable Game 5 in the Parking Lot Cubs/Twins at Target Field in 2015--great extra-inning game and cool stadium Cubs/Sox at the Cell in 2003 or 2004 when we blew a like 6 run lead with Wood on the mound. That sucked big time. My dad was super drunk and almost fought someone in the parking lot--not a good look on him. Cubs/Sox at the Cell in 2001 when Carlos Lee hit a game winning HR (grand slam maybe?). It was on a Friday night and after that game, I think they stopped scheduling Cubs/Sox night games for a long time. I must have seen 50 fights in the upper deck. It was out of control. Just full of morons. Cubs/Rockies in Coors Field in 2005. Not a super memorable game, but we had really good seats. Cubs/Cards in the first year of the new Busch stadium. What an underwhelming experience that was. The new Busch Stadium is trash compared to most newer stadiums. Cubs/Mariners in Safeco. My son's first road Cubs game. What a great stadium and city for that matter. Cubs/Nats in the new Nats stadium. Went to a 3 game series and I think we lost every game. Booooooooo Cubs/Marlins the first year of Marlins Stadium. It was like the 20th game ever in the stadium and we got seats like 20 rows behind the plate for $30. I have no idea how they got that stadium approved.
  22. horsefeathering Purdue. I guess there was a reason they were only 2.5 point favorites. Cost me what I thought was an easy bet.
  23. I've never been, but Keith Law has a pretty extensive restaurant recommendation list: http://meadowparty.com/blog/2016/02/23/arizona-spring-training-dining-guide-2016-edition/
  24. Too each their own I suppose. But I see no similarity to the 85 Bears. The Cubs won the WS 4 months ago. And Ross is a super nice and funny guy, reaping the rewards and momentary fame that comes with success. All the power in the world to him. It will be gone soon enough. Pretty much, and at the same time if it bugs you or rubs you the wrong way I don't think it's all that hard to ignore whatever David Ross is doing in off the field stuff. Not when every thing he (or anyone else does) off the field is retweeted and/or commented on by every single baseball writer/blogger/teammate. And, again, I'm OK with him getting as much money as he possibly can get, particularly because he's nowhere near as rich as most of his teammates were or will be shortly, but "Dancing with the Stars" and playing with the Harlem Globetrotters? Who really gives a horsefeathers?
  25. At the risk of being "that guy", I'll say it: I'm sick of David Ross. I don't begrudge him any way to make money or get more famous, good for him, but I really just want the season to start so I don't have to hear about this crap anymore. The Cubs are already becoming the 85 Bears. I wouldn't trade the title for anything, but I didn't expect to be sick of any part of it THIS quickly.
