  1. The article says anyone with less than 2 years of professional experience is exempt, but that includes minors, so it seems that Baun is exempt. Not sure how they treat the foreign leagues, so Panarin COULD be exempt also. I say you protect Gustafson and, if Panarin can't be drafted, TVR (only over Desjardins because he has 1 extra contract year) and dare them to take Hossa and Seabrook. The only reason the Hawks would protect Seabrook is for locker room/loyalty reasons if he is not selected as it could be an issue if he comes back. I think Hossa would understand because of his contract (and he doesn't have the A on his sweater & hasn't spent his whole career with the Hawks anyway).
  2. I like how this is our "afterthought" top 10 prospects and it's still better than 75% of teams in baseball. It's so awesome.
  3. Yeah, PFF has hated him the past 2 years, particularly in Pass Pro.
  4. I'm no Illini lover, but awfully chesty from a fan of a team that hired Ed Orgeron and Houston Nutt within the past 11 years.
  5. If you switch Austin and Montreal, you could have the NL East be Mets, Phillies, Pirates, Expos. Move the Nats to the South then and then the Orioles can go back to the AL East. You could also move the D-Backs to the AL West, move the Royals to the AL South with all of the Texas teams, and move the Rays to the NL South. So NL South would be Nats, Braves, Rays, Marlins
  6. Bought 3 to Opening Night and will sell our 2 to cover the costs. We have 3 guys that share 2 seats and all want to go to Opening Night.
  7. The Orioles are doing what the White Sox say they are doing. At least they are trying. Who knows, maybe they can get a Wild Card spot out of it with all of these average veterans they keep signing.
  8. If the Cubs win 101 games and lose to a 90 win White Sox team in the World Series, I seriously don't know what I'd do. Mass murder is probably not 100% out of the picture.
  9. Good thing Butler played 47 minutes on a bad ankle to help beat the worst team in the league on a Thursday night in January. Great job, Thibs Hoiberg!
  10. Buccigross was talking about that on twitter last night. The implication was that yeah, playing with Kane helps. But the dude is a finisher. I think he said a "sniper." I guess you can say he gets a little more space because Kane and Anisimov need to be accounted for. But there is no denying Panarin is a world-class offensive talent. Yep. I mean, Kane being on the ice had nothing to do with Panarin's shot off the faceoff last night. Oh, yeah, I don't mean to downgrade him and his shot would fly on any line, just the overall total production has to be getting a boost from being on a line like that. Same as Saad clearly benefitted from being on with Toews/Hossa last year. Doesn't make him a bad player by any stretch, just inflates his skill a bit.
  11. Panarin is an absolute beast, but I wonder how much of his success is the fact that he's on a line with Kane. No defense can accurately chase those 2 around at the same time. It will be interesting to see how he fares once the lines are inevitably changed up in the playoffs once a team starts to at least slightly figure them out.
  12. DePaul beat #20 George Washington by 20 points last night. Lost to Northwestern in OT on Saturday as well. Progress?
  13. Wrist surgery, at least four months When he goes on LTIR, it will be ~$1.5MM in salary cap space. Combined with the ~$1.1 from the Daley/Scuderi trade (puuuuuuke), we're approaching $3MM in space available. Here is a list of 2016 UFA D-Men with their salary: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/freeagents.php?team=all&type=UFA&year=2016&pos=D Hilarious that the top 2 were 2010 Hawks (Campbell & Buff), that team was LOADED. Roman Polak do anything for you? Didn't think so. Luke Schenn? No, he sucks, too, but is at least young. Anyone know anything about Medvedev from the Flyers? Here are the 2016 UFA Forwards with their salary: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/cap-central/freeagents.php?team=all&type=UFA&year=2016&pos=F Isn't the re-return of Versteeg obvious? LOL.
  14. Matt Davis committed to Mike Sherman and wasn't a fit for Sumlin's offense. Kenny Hill had a drinking problem. But it does appear that Sumlin foolishly made promises to Kevin & Kyler Murray that apparently he couldn't live up to. Sumlin owes JFF about 75% of his contract extension money. He's a fraud.
  15. DePaul sucks again. No surprise.
  16. Illinois beats UIC by 4 with a 35-14 FT advantage. UIC has lost its previous 3 by 78 points.
  17. Not that I'm 100% behind Groce, but I can't help but wonder where we'd be right now with a healthy team all year. Not crazy to think we'd have one loss. Even with the injuries, i think this is a tournament team. They are the most talented group since 2005 team. They have star power, upperclassmen leadership, young shooters, athleticism. They aren't playing completely cohesively right now thanks to Groce's lack of in-game savvy and their penchant to give up wild and ridiculous 3s, but i'd be surprised if they aren't better than .500 in conference and aying well come the postseason. Groce gets another year, i think. Finke, JCole, and Jordan are a nice nucleus to build on and i think he'll get the benefit of the doubt. Odd timing for this quote after beating Yale at home by 4 points while getting outrebounded 45-19.
  18. with the money you save on not getting fulls, you can get those playoff tickets :-k This. ~20 extra games at an average of $30 each =$600. That will get 1 NLDS game and maybe 1 NLCS game. That isn't even in the same stratosphere of up to 2 additional World Series Games. Sure but that is a single season view. There are seasons you have paid for that haven't gotten you any WS games. Fair, but if it's going to happen, it's probably going to be in the next 5 years or it might never happen.
  19. Same here. We were hoping to move to fulls as well. One year too late, i guess. I'm going to be PISSED if I miss a clinching game in the playoffs due to not having the fulls now. with the money you save on not getting fulls, you can get those playoff tickets :-k This. ~20 extra games at an average of $30 each =$600. 21. To be fair, he earned a large chunk of it. Well done, sir. Well done.
  22. if he stays something like 2015 Harper? why not $400M? Hell, I'm not so sure 400 million wouldn't be the starting point if he performs anywhere close to what he did last year. It's probably going to be a 10+ year deal (albeit, probably with some sort of opt-out in there for him). By the time he's about to hit the market, the Yankees will have a lot of money off, or close to off, the books. It's not hard to figure they are going to go hard after Harper or Trout when they become available. Harper will get at least $500M as will Trout.
  23. Because he didn't actually grab the facemask. He hits it on the way to grabbing his shoulder. The rule is you have to grab it and then either hold on or twist. That didn't happen. Several years ago, even incidental contact with the facemask was a penalty. That isn't true in the NFL anymore. I'm not surprised they made the call because it looks like a face mask in live speed action. It's an understandable call to be missed but it was missed. Unbelievable that they can't go to the replay for penalties like that. I understand not allowing regular holding calls to get reviewed, but a call like that, which isn't a judgement call at all, should be eligible for review. Also, I liked the old incidental facemask 5 yard penalty. The distinction is key IMO, but whatever.
  24. For Bears to make it in at 9-7, it can't come down to just them and Seattle due to head to head. If Seattle, Atlanta, and the Bears are all 9-7, the Bears win most of those tiebreakers.
  25. I know this game really doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but my inner meatball wants the Bears to ruin Brett Favre night for all of those hillbilly mouth breathers and make them at least worry that the Bears could be good in upcoming years.
