It might be Gaubs, dont know how to spell his last name. It came out of Levines mouth that the deal was done. I doubt the Cubs are going to sit on these prospects so not to jinx it but i think Peavy is heading to the cubs, no way the cubs trade away Derosa for cap space to sign bradley when they ended up signing Miles. Like i said i'd hate to say we're getting peavy and jinx it but it definitely looks like it.

We better get Peavy ..I don't like our middle infield at all now

A reasonable person would think that's where this is leading, but these are the Cubs we're talking about.

The rumors from early December had Marquis being shipped out and DeRosa being traded for the necessary pieces to acquire Peavy.

This is way too coincidental for it not to be leading up to a Peavy deal.

If it doesn't lead to a Peavy deal, Hendry will have performed the ultimate torture technique to Cub fans.

Looks like we got two pretty good relief prospects and a decent SP prospect with big control problems. Considering we likely weren't going to get any of their Top 10 prospects for DeRo, it's not a bad deal for the Cubs.

Yeah, but again, these don't seem like the type of guys that the Padres were looking for. The rumors back then had starters close to the majors going to SD from Philly or Baltimore. None of these guys will start 2009 in the Padres rotation. I don't believe Hendry would trade Derosa just to cut payroll, but I have a hard time believing that SD told Hendry, "if you can get Stevens, Archer and Gaub from the Indians consider Peavy yours."

Maybe we already had the players to get it done in-house, and Hendry picked up these guys to replace what we'll lose? I have no clue what Hendry is doing... Edited by nolanwood

sorry guys...nothing makes sense except for peavy being a cub in a few days...or maybe even...

WOW

Let's see we've "signed" Milton Bradley but we haven't "officially signed" Milton Bradley. How much is he going to be per year? 10 mil or so given his health? Swapping DeRosa for Miles saves us about three million. Oh we've "traded" Marquis to Colorado, but not quite done. This is supposed to save us between five and six million. Six plus three is nine. Nine and ten are close, very very close.

The most likely explanation is that we can only add a marginal amount to our payroll and that we need to move money around before we can finalize the Bradley signing. DeRosa and Marquis dumps are precursors to that.

Bruce Miles take on all of this.

The Cubs will have to trade DeRosa to free up money for Bradley, whose deal may get done next week

and whether or not it has anything to do with Peavy...

As far as the Jake Peavy deal with San Diego goes, it’s still dormant for now, but it’s not dead. However, the Cubs’ ownership situation will have to be settled before anything gets done on that front. That could take awhile.

I do like the idea of trading DeRosa when his value is at its peak, but I'm a tad worried about where our infield is going

Don't like the idea of a Miles-Theriot infield...

Lets hope Bradley can give us a year similar to his last, we're going to need the offense

my girlfriend is pissed off...thanks cubs.

Same with my wife. She would've dumped me for Derosa if the opportunity presented itself.

So we had to cut DeRosa loose in order to sign Bradley? Why couldn't he have done it with the money saved from trading Marquis? If we don't get Peavy,I'm not that happy about all this.

It isn't obvious to everyone else that the plan is:

Sign Miles to fill DeRosa's spot, trade DeRosa to Indians for prospects to spin to SD for Peavy?

ya think.

Yeah its just too bad that parts a and b are disasterous without part c.

DeRosa just to free up salary for Bradley doesn't do much for me. But, I guess I'll wait for the final product.
