  1. somebody push Cotts in front of a street cleaner before tomorrow.
  2. It won't be as pretty(less strike outs, more walks), but the results will be simliar. Wood allowed 24 runs last year in 66, Gregg allowed 26 in 68 IP in 08. Gregg allowed 33 in 84 IP in 07 and 24 in 62 IP in 06. So even if Gregg allows 29 runs in 68 innings next year, you're really telling me it's a big drop off? Gregg was also tougher to hit, and teams hit for less power off him. I know everybody loves Wood, but I don't see how this is a huge drop off. Were talking about a relief pitcher here. It's common sense, if you have a elite reliever, you don't just save him for the 9th. Unless the guy has a physical issue, or you have a elite reliever pitching in front of him. If it's the bottom of the 8th, Gregg walks a guy and there's two and with two outs, Marmol is coming into the game alot of the time. Very well said.
  3. That sounds like a move Peavy would agree to....yup. Because I meant that seriously...yeah. The only possibility here that MIGHT make more sense is the Padres want Marshall instead of Olson...and Heilman is replacing Marshall. Eternal optimism is a disease rampant in Chicago born suckers like me.
  4. We have 4 set in stone SPs, and these guys fighting for the 5th spot...but in reality, we will need TWO of them to pitch well as starters because it is very, very doubtful that Harden is throwing every time up in the rotation - he's going to have some extra rest days. Acquiring Peavy alleviated some of that concern...Marshall and Gaudin and Shark fighting for spot starts. Now we have them, plus Heilman, fighting for a rotation spot and then the spot starts. It helps us with depth, but it puts more pressure on those gentlemen to perform as good starting pitchers instead of occasional swingmen. That's a big difference.
  5. Ick. It's almost as if Hendry was pissed that he went out, got Olson, the Padres were still being pansies...so he decided to trade Olson to spite them. Awful. Peavy to Seattle.
  6. I like this deal even if we don't land Peavy. Nice job by Jimbo here, but I sincerely doubt this move was made without Peavy in mind. Let's get the new owners already.
  7. Still what is the point? So freaking Taguchi? A minor league deal should have been enough. Meh.
  8. Yep, we wouldn't want anybody coming onto this site that could disagree with your expert analysis. =D>
  9. Derrek Lee isn’t waiving his NTC to go to San Fran. Why would you assume he would do that? To go from a winning team to a losing team? That sounds fun. Not to mention DLee has an extreme attachment to Chicago right now because of the medical care needs of his daughter with LCA. Chicago is one of the only major baseball markets that has a hospital that works exclusively with the disease. DLee will finish his contract with the Cubs, barring some sort of final year/Cubs losing/dealt to a winner type scenario.
  10. Yeah, we should fire the GM who has overseen one of the most successful stretches of Cubs teams in my lifetime. Good call. Winning consistently sucks. Just because a GM doesn’t make a right move every time doesn’t mean he sucks. Hendry has made plenty of damn good moves too. Obviously some of his moves this year are money driven, so he’s doing the best with what he has. Oh, and the offseason still has 2 months left before ST. Genius idea.
  11. I think this is pretty spot on. It's a damn nice addition to the lineup. If Fontenot can produce even somewhat similar numbers to what he did in PT duty last year, our lineup could be quite good. It's a bit of an overpayment for Bradley, but by maybe 2mil a year or so...that's really not that big of a deal. If you break down the Texeira deal, the BoSox missed out on him by about 2mil a season...I wonder how they feel about that. Better to overpay by a bit than deal with the rather lackluster options that existed if Bradley signed elsewhere.
  12. Let's just wait and see how this transgresses...the offseason isn't over, so this has all sorts of possibilities.
  13. Other than the fact that Murphy is stone cold wrong, absolutely nothing.
  14. I don't think anyone imagined him leading off for the Cubs One person did.
  15. Mike Fontenot and prospects for Roberts. :pig:
  16. Aaron Miles is not a legit leadoff hitter in any universe. He's a good platoon partner at 2B for Fontenot, and a solid utility guy...but that's it. Good lord.
  17. The more and more I read about these prospects, the less and less I consider them viable options in a Peavy trade. I don't think this is Peavy related...
  18. Guess I can get that jersey with my name on it now. If only the Cubs would trade for Jay Bruce. Any chance the Cubs sign a guy named Kozlowski? Otherwise I'm screwed...
  19. No...but our lineup was already one of the best in the league last year, and we are presumably adding Milton Bradley to it...so Fontenot is a 7/8 hitter anyways. I'm not too worried about it at that point.
  20. It'd be even more awesome of Jimbo somehow found a way to not ship DeRo, and this is us signing a guy to back Theriot at SS as we deal Cedeno to the Pads. Wishful thinking. :(
  21. This is obviously a precursor to DeRosa/Cedeno being shipped out. I think the acquisition of Jake Peavy would make me feel better about signing Aaron Miles…Fontenot becomes the starter, Miles is a decent backup, and our rotation is balls deep.
  22. The D-Backs and Dodgers will be "fighting it out" for the NL West next year...it's gonna be ugly, but those are the two best teams with the most talent, even if Manny goes elsewhere.
  23. It was all the hurricane's fault that the Astros didn't win the World Series. It had nothing to do with the stubborn ignorance of their owner to refuse to pay attention to anyone with common sense. Nothing. 8-[
  24. The Cubs are the best team in the NL. Whether they choose to perform that way in the playoffs is a different story. The Mets probably have the greatest collection of top tier talent in the NL, but they lack certain pieces that seem to add value to the entire team. Do Putz and K-Rod fix that? Maybe, I still question the Mets SP problems. But if you ask me, the Mets are a collection of either stars or scrubs...the Cubs have a more complete roster with more depth to withstand injuries. I'll worry more about who the favorites are once the season begins and we see just how the Cubs respond to another playoff disappointment.
