Isn't this about the same time as last year when we played the Brewers and swept them in that four gamer - basically taking command of the division for the rest of the year? Not that this is exactly the same, but the Cards are playing a tough team, we're playing a team that has no business having the record they do. There's a chance to sweep and take command of the division again. But since 4-game sweeps are rare, I'll settle for three. Need this first one for sure. Go Cubs.

I never thought I would dread the 3-hole coming to bat. But, at least right now, I feel like he will kill any rally we have started. I'm pleased when he only records a single out per at bat. That is now my definition of D-Lee keeping a rally going: not hitting into a DP with a weak grouder to the left side. I hope he can bounce back, but he looks lost right now. To be fair, he was alwsays a slow starter before joining the Cubs. Maybe he can pull it together as the season progresses. But you have to wonder if Lou is eyeing a drop in the lineup soon.

Definitely need to keep our eye on the weather. Bradley shouldn't play in any game where the temp is below 60 degrees. And he should never play on a wet field. We knew this was the risk going in. The question is: do you want Reed's glove or Micah's bat in there when MB is out?

He's put up a pretty good 0 for 9 - if there is such a thing. He's worked counts, got robbed of two RBI double last night by the ump and still has managed an OBP over .350. I like what I've seen. The hits will come.

I just don't think his bat plays that big a role when he wins games. That's all. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and have no problem with it. The problem I have is with the holier than thous on this board who sneer at people that are just coming around to Sabremetrics etc. and don't fully understand methodologies or the relevance of some of the numbers. When people state an opinion then genuinley ask for guidence, they're met with people like Meph who seem to think quantity is a substitute for quality when it comes to posting. It's too bad because otherwise this is a very enjoyable site with a lot of info you can't get at other Cub blogs etc. It's also sad that a grown man (big assumption there) acts the way he acts on an everyday basis. Am I looking at this wrong? If Z can only contribute with his bat in games he pitches, then how can you look at his pitching and hitting numbers seperately? He has pinch hit in the past, but the vast majority of his ABs obviously are in his starts. So if his pitching nets him 3.3 wins over average isn't his bat a part of those wins already? Or do they figure these numbers in a statistical vacuum where all numbers are of independent of each other? Perhaps I'm just revealing my lack of math skills. Can someone explain. Because to me its an irrelevant number since Z's hitting rarely if ever is the cause of overcoming an off day pitching, which is the only case where his bat is more important than his arm in determining his value to a team.

All anyone needs to know is that the Tribune bought the team for $25MM and sold it for $900MM about 30 years later. That's a great return on investment to say the least. The Ricketts, no doubt are hoping lightning strikes again. And while it's doubtful that they'll see the precentage increases that the Trib Co. did, they will make hundreds of millions if they decide to sell the team in 20-30 years. In the meantime, they can operate at a loss a push or a gain. It really doesn't make much difference whatsoever. The value of the team is in the fact that it is an appreciating asset.

Don't know about the third group, but I bet Ricketts or Utay would give the go ahead I imagine I'm reading too much into it, but it seems like the closer the Cubs get to finalizing a sale, the more sure the Padres are that they aren't going to trade Peavy. Could this just be posturing for leverage? I'm willing to believe it.
