That's none other Ronny Cedeño in the Venezuela Winter League.

I seem to recall a few years ago Choi doing well in his winter league.

I guess Hendry's back to being the drunk guy on eBay this offseason.

If Hendry was online right now, this Woot-off would be moving a heck of a lot faster.

so .251/.370/.449 is doing good?

Pretty much. Get that BABIP up a little and he's looking at an .850 + OPS.

Given that he K'd in 35% of his big league AB's, I'm stunned he ever got his OBP up that high.

Adam Dunn too.

Granted he did well with Florida for half a year, but the guy was a complete bust.

That's an average Mark Grace year, and you'll have a hard time finding a bigger Grace hater on this board, but he was a good ballplayer.

Update from the Denver Post:

http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_7476366

After losing free-agent catcher Yorvit Torrealba to the New York Mets on Thursday, the Rockies are bracing for the loss of Kazuo Matsui.

The Chicago Cubs are pressing hard to sign the free-agent second baseman. One source close to the negotiations said he wouldn't be surprised if Matsui is offered a contract similar to the three-year, $14.4 million deal the Mets gave Torrealba.

I knew there was a reason I got drunk... my subconscious must have known that it was time for Hendry to do something this stupid.

Ugh. What really disappoints me is people saying "If this move gets us Fukudome, I'm all for it." Come on. Maybe you take on a stiff for a year to lure in a top guy, but to grab Matsui for 3 years just say you can pay Fukudome, what is it up to now, 4/56 and rising? that makes no sense to me. This reads to me almost as nonsensically as "We've got to sign Nick Punto to a 2 year deal so we can lure Carlos Silva here with a 4/44 contract!"

Man, this makes less than no sense unless Jim is starting a crappy middle infielder collection.

I remember folks clamoring for Kazuo when he first came over, and I wasn't sold on him then. I'm sure not now.

Wouldn't it be spectacular if Hendry does this to try and lure Fukudome to Chicago, only to have Kosuke stay in Japan?

So we might be paying, in effect, $70m for Fukudome (56 for him and 14 for Matsui to lure Fukudome). Unless he comes over here and hits like Babe Ruth, that's a huge waste of money.

I've I said that I hate Jim Hendry recently?

once again it's the baseball offseason and i find myself wanting to kick hendry in the balls

It looks like Hendry may have kicked you there first!

why not, he's been doing it for years now

the amount of money the cubs will have invested in pure crap every year could really be used to pay a good player.

I polished that up for you, abuck.
