Did he still sound optimistic? I would say he sounded confident that something could get done. He said that two hours ago hendry and towers had and hour and a half meeting and they both feel they can "hash something out". He also said that it is a possibility that there could be deal agreed upon in the next 24 to 48 hours and that the physicals would take place over the weekend and that there could be something official by early next week.
Bruce Levine was just on ESPN 1000 with an update. He said that we should know in the next 48 hours if Peavy will be a Cub or not. He also mentioned that Towers thinks he can get seven or eight players for Peavy, but said the Cubs will only offer four or five. Also said that Padres want Marquis so that they can trade him off to another team to get another young player.
Rozner thinks the Cubs are still in the running for Peavy, but one of the names he mentions in a deal makes me believe he doesn't know anything. http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=253802
Gammons said that Lou is not happy with Pie and his .160 AVG or something to that extent, and went on to say that Crisp is the best defensive center fielder in baseball and that he could be a solution for the Cubs leadoff problem. Overall Gammons acted like it would be a good deal for the Cubs as a second option with Roberts being the first.
During the Inside Pitch on Baseball Tonight, Peter Gammons mentioned that with the start the Orioles are off too that it might be hard for MacPhail to convince Angelos on trading Brian Roberts. Gammons went on to say that he thinks something might happen soon involving the Cubs and Red Sox with Coco Crisp. He said he could see Sean Gallagher and another prospect going to the Red Sox for Crisp.

Bruce Levine was on the radio a few minutes ago and said the Cubs might look at going after Bedard and Roberts. He mentioned previous discussions Baltimore and the Cubs have had about Bedard. Doubt it will happen, but thought I'd pass it along.
