Just got back from the game. What a great one. Very surprised it was that close, but it was fun (and nerve racking). In the end though, a W is a W.

I just wish the Gary Pinkel factor would stop. Every time we get up big our offense gets really conservative and we throw a bunch of 3 and outs out there. It cost us a bowl game last year, and it almost cost us this game.

By the way, I don't think you win this game with Juice, because he can't complete a pass (or his receivers can't catch a pass for him, either one).

This was just early season rust, I hope, and hopefully we can come out strong next week and beat Ole Miss.

Great game for Chase Daniel, 358 yards and 3 TD/0 INT. I'll take that.

Juice was 6/9 and was looking pretty exceptional before he got hurt. Juice wouldn't have fumbled twice and wouldn't have thrown that pick in the end zone at the end of the game. And I told you that Missouri wasn't going to blow out the Illini

And if Gary Pinkel wasn't an ass, it wouldn't have been close.

Doesn't matter. A win is a win, regardless of how ugly it is.

When we ran the ball twice in a row on 2nd and 3rd and 1, I was speechless.

[semi-irrational rant to crazy talk depending on who's reading]Also, to play blind homer who didn't have much replay benefit, did Mizzou get hosed several times during the game? There were two 3rd down plays that it appeared were caught and then the ball came out after they were down, but both were ruled incomplete. I also thought it looked like Daniel's arm was coming forward on the fumble, we got shafted several times with bogus Pass Interference calls, and U of I didn't get 2 Delay of Games called on their last possession.[/semi-irrational rant to crazy talk depending on the reader]

Williams and Daniel both gave textbook examples of why QB's need to slide. In Daniel's case he was already 5 yards past the first down marker, just go to your knee already and stop giving me heart palpitations.

I thought it was obvious that Daniel's arm was going forward, but I also thought that the Illini QB (name slips me) was down on that 100 yard fumble return, so who knows.

The two missed delay of game calls were uncalled for. That's something a ref can't miss. One or two of the PIs seemed to be phantom calls, but it was hard to tell from where I was at. One that sticks out in my mind was a short pass over the middle that the back judge, who was literally 40 yards away from the play, called PI on. Replay showed it wasn't.

I hope Mizzou gets another big game on TV once conference play starts, because I think it's ridiculous to say that Illinois is more talented. Illinois impressed me, no doubt (holy speed!), but Mizzou is a very talented team. I hope they get a chance to showcase it in the future.

There better be some practice in on those special teams, because they looked awful today. Crossett is a joke as a punter.

Ridiculous?

I think Mizzou is solid, but I don't see immense talent oozing from them.

Illinois' talent is very raw, but I think there is more of it.

Yes, I think it's ridiculous. I think this year's Mizzou team is much more talented than this year's Illinois team. We have probably the best TE tandem in the nation, an outstanding QB, and some very solid WRs, along with (the very inconsistent -- stop dancing and hit the hole!) Tony Temple. Our offense has the potential to be in the top 10 in the nation. The defense is still a question mark, but I think the pieces are there.

I'm not trying to get into a big U of I/Mizzou argument here, because U of I impressed me in a lot of aspects today and I think we were very fortunate to get out of there with the W, but I think over the course of the season, Mizzou will show they are a lot better than they showed today and U of I will struggle a bit. Maybe that'll be different in a couple of years, but I don't think it will be this year.

Colt Brennan already has 209 yards passing and 4 TD's...

with 3:15 to go in the 1st quarter.

Geez, he might break his own record from last year.

34-41, 411, 6 TD's...

...in the first half.

I know it's an all pass offense and I know it's Northern Colorado but still, this is just amazing.

tipping my cap to Cal...they are going to be good this year. I was a bit of a homer in my three predictions..TN/Cal, Auburn/Kansas State, Georgia/Ok State. Georgia won easily. Auburn struggled and had to pull out the win in the 4th quarter.

I think it would be "ridiculous" to say Illinois is more talented than, say, USC.

Missouri is a team that, IMO, will likely finish at the bottom or just out of the top 25. Needless to say, this is higher than the Illini will finish, but that's not the point.

I am an Illinois fan, but I have never really had much emotional investment in football, and am not prone to homeristic assessments of Illini football. I save that stuff for the hoops team.

Missouri may be more talented than Illinois. But IMO, to say the argument is ridiculous is, well, ridiculous.

Semantics, I guess.

I think Cal has the best chance to topple USC.

I hope they do, anyway.

I like that you cheer for your conference though. I find it amazing how many Big Ten fans would rather Michigan and OSU lose in non-conference games. Not realizing this only make their school look even crappier.

So who are some teams that impressed people in the first day of college football. Besides the obvious ones.

I was really impressed by Georgie Tech. Could end up in the Top Ten

I was really happy with Michigan St. I didnt know what to expect from us or UAB. MSU has the talent to be a bowl team. Hopefully they can change from their annual plunge once the Big Ten season starts.

I think Auburn is obviously overrated but I was impressed with Kansas Sts defense.

I've been very vocal the last couple of years in stating that Auburn's QB, Brandon Cox, isn't good. He is about as immobile of a QB as you will see. That coupled with an offensive line that only returned one starter caused a lot of problems for Auburn. How many times was Cox sacked? Another key factor is that Auburn's starting RB, Brad Lester, was suspended for this game. Sophomore Ben Tate rushed for 90 or so yards, but they could have used Lester's breakaway speed.

Is Auburn really overrated? They're ranked #18 in the nation and behind 4 other SEC teams. Everyone knew this was going to be somewhat of a "rebuilding" year for them. Auburn plays weaker opponents for the next three weeks before traveling to Gainsville to play the Florida Gators. I'm hoping their offensive line has matured some by that time.

A couple things on the Mizzou game that various people have mentioned...

Daniels' arm was most definitely going forward on that "fumble." Even the announcers, who were biased towards Illinois the whole game, were shocked by the call.

The teary eyed backup QB was most definitely not down on that 100 yard fumble return. No doubt about it. The ball came out when his knee was a good 12 inches away from being down.

The two blown delay of game calls were ridiculous. How those are missed, ever, I'll never understand.

Keener, are you signed up for Premium right now? When does it expire? How do you want to do this?

Cox is a very average QB. He benefitted two years ago from having very good wide receivers, but since then his weaknesses have been more than obvious.

The Tiger defense is terrific, no questions about them. But the offense is mediocre with or without Lester. He's not a game changer in the Cadillac/Ronnie Brown mold and that's what Auburn needs right now. If they had the running game they had in 04, they could once again cover for an average QB.

I didn't know Mizzou was good. Hmm...

So it's basically them and Nebraska in the North?

Should be yeah. K-State should be decent but not great. I'm not expecting much out of Iowa State and Kansas, and I have no idea what to expect out of Colorado this year.

KU will be in the top 3 in the North. And we always have a shot at beating you clowns.

Yea Im signed up for premium but it should be running out soon. Id guess you could PM Tim and let him know you are paying for mine, that would probably be the easiest way to handle it. Thanks by the way, and GO ILLINI

I'm thrilled that K-State and Auburn actually played tough teams in their out of conference schedule and the fact they played each other was nice to see.

Syracuse sucks and I'm glad they turned Brennon away when he wanted to come here before he went to Hawaii. Coach Robinson makes adjustments as well as the captain of the Titanic.

Michigan better not be in the Top 25.

Texas should drop.

Nice wins for Cal, Georgia Tech (ND looked sloppy but I credit GT for that).

I still hate it that Oklahoma and Nebraska don't play each other.

Nice adjustments by Wisconsin in their win over WSU.
