someone pleez. i dont know why i'm so fascinated, its either because we might get a good to great player or the sheer oddity and drama of the transaction. maybe both.

If the Yankees get him I'm gonna puke. Gut feeling that winning bid won't come from (Cubs,Yankees,Mets,Boston,Texas) but a dark horse team like the Diamondbacks,Blue Jays,Astros, Orioles that flew in under the radar and make a bold move.

That would be interesting...i just don't see any of those teams (other than the Astros) having the money to pay $20-$30 mil just to negotiate a contract with a player. My gut feeling is the Yanks

Drama. After the election suspense last night, I'm not sure how much more suspense I can take!!!

I don't buy what the Score reports.

I do think, however, that the Cubs are very much in this thing. It's the perfect way for Jim Hendry to quickly turn the attention OFF of the Cubs miserable year. He has the money. And his feet are to the fire to spend it.

We shall see.

I liken the Matsuzaka fiasco to me winning the lottery. It's fun to play and fun to hope and wish, but I (or the Cubs) really have no shot at winning.

When was the last time we outbid other teams for a high-caliber player?

The perfect scenario is where everyone else is lowballing Seibu and nobody told the Cubs, who happily make their $20 million dollar non-bid and find out it was a little better than they thought. :D

We will see how serious the new Cubs President and Hendry are tonight about making a serious run for the World Series Next year if they come in with a winning bid. Edited by Neuby

Are you referring to the past-his-prime signing of Moises Alou?

When was the last time was signed an in-his-prime premiere FA?

This board has turned into a Japanese player love fest. I don't know how much more I can take.

We're just late to the party.

Alou was past his prime, but was still an effective hitter. Giambi was the only better available hitter in that off season. Bonds, Giambi, Smotlz, and Park were the only players to sign to larger deals than Alou in that off season.

But hey, I'm not going to argue that one big FA signing in five years is a great record. Jacque Jones and LaTroy Hawkins are probably the only in-their-prime FA signings the Cubs have made.

I know I have seen a pronounciation somewhere before, but could someone refresh my memory?

I caught the tail-end of his interview. Boras said we may not know until tommorow who won the bid

Edit: He did make it seem like we'd know for sure by tommorow at the latest.

Depends on how fast Seibu acts (they have until the 14th to decide), when they come to work (it's 7:14 tomorrow morning there now), and how late the MLB folks work. :)
