But the point is the wait is most likely not about suddenly thinking about what they were giving away.

I wasn't suggesting a sudden change of heart -- just that some of the deciders might still be reluctant about it. But it's more likely they're just being meticulous as you suggest.

What kind of ownership group is this? Is there one head honcho? Or is the head guy just a figurehead for a group? Are we talking about a Cuban situation, or are we talking about the old DBacks ownership group?

When the Lions were a powerhouse back in the 1980's, there was one head honcho. I don't know if that's changed since then or not. One guy would make the decision a lot easier.

What would you guys do if someway in hell the Cubs ended up being the high bidder and signing Matsuzaka?? Itd be the biggest signing and overall excitement since the Nomar signing... I think I would go outside my house, blow off some fireworks, maybe cry a little bit for joy and let it soak in, Then head to the bar and drink until I would blackout...

Haha. I remember the Nomar trade. I was in my apartment jumping up and down. :D

I'd be pretty excited, but there's still a long way to go before this team is World Series material.

I'd have to say my hopes aren't very high for the Cubs winning the bidding. Just don't see it happening.

I would probably immediately start worrying about whether the guy will truly live up to his billing.

I'd become convinced he won't

I would start a pool on how long it will be before he goes on the DL.

What keeps coming to mind when I think of this is how the Cubs had scouts over there for awhile. I'm sure they done their homework. If he is worth the money, I'm thinking this year, the Cubs will shell it out. The Cubs just may surprise us.

I'm taking the over on how much of his contract he spends on the DL if he signs with us.

I could see the Cubs signing him just because of the marketability he will have wherever he signs... The whole baseball world is going to be all over this guy wherever he goes because the hype right now is unbeleiveable for a guy whos neevr pitche din the majors yet... We'd be on ESPN, every sports and radio show 20 times more...Id go out and by his jersey right now if we signed him.. And we all know how much the Cubs care more about marketing than winning..

certainly wouldn't be the first time the cubs made me do that.

Gary Garland[/url]"]The deadline to submit sealed bids for pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka has passed and the U.S. east coast press is already speculating that it will be either the Yankees or the Mets who will win the bidding. Also thought to have put in bids were the Cubs, Boston, Texas and San Diego.

According to Sankei Sports, nobody had made any bids on Matsuzaka until the very last day, with the Yankees said to be filing their offer five minutes before the deadline. The interested teams were apparently afraid that the amount of thier bids would get out if they proffered them early, so they held off until what they felt was the last minute. At least some of the clubs involved ended their bids with non-round number figures in fear that they would get topped by a dollar or two if they didn't.

A rumor that Matsuzaka would fly into the U.S. Wednesday proved false, as he spent the day at home.

Along those lines, hopefully it means that if they don't get Daisuke, they're still looking to go after some of the other very good players posting.

It doesn't take much of a scout to watch this 26 year old pitcher to know he has the talent to be a force in MLB. He has a 95+ mph fastball, wicked breaking pitches, and doesn't seem scared to go after people.

Look him up on Youtube. Consider what he did in the WBC. Matsuzaka is legit.

I hate waiting.

I feel like Cartman waiting for the Wii

I could really use some cheesy poofs right about now.

As a true Cubs fan, I'd start lamenting how good he could have been.

I'd start making my "HEY MATSUZAKA! WELCOME TO THE CUBS DL!" sign for opening day.

Too bad its not going to happen. The Cubs bid was probably like $5 million, just like their attempted Carlos Beltran signing

I'm with you! Go to my local pub, drink into a drunked stupor, and convince myself we are going to the World Series. Perhaps a little bar-room brawl with some Sox and/or Cardinals fans who can't shut their trap; to top of the wonderful night. Yep - Typical weekend night for me....
