The deal didn't go down until the deadline, couldn't they have gotten a single A prospect? Hendry must have been clamoring for Cesar Izturis.

if the choice was to

 

1) trade Maddux for Izturis, give the Dodgers $2M, take on the remainder of Izzy's contract

2) Keep Maddux until the end of the year

3) Trade Maddux for a mid-level prospect, pay them some cash and be done with it

 

 

I'll choose #3, then I'd fall back on #2.
