i'm for anything that gets maddux and his insane salary away from this team.

The way I see it, we can get 2 or 3 Neifis or Glendon's for mad dog's salary.

Happy days!!!!!!!

That would be pretty cool for maddux to try and help the braves reach the post season. . . . then maddux could ride off into the sunset on a positive note.

i heard from a friend of mine of a rumor of maddux to the braves for jorge sosa and langerhans.

Can you give us some background on your "friend"? Who are his sources? Why should we give them any credence?

Maddux 4 betemit plz

I would really love to see a Maddux, any one of our relievers, and Scott Moore for Betemit and a prospect. I'm not sure how Betemit would be defensively at SS, but I'd like him to play there with Ronny at 2B until we know for sure what happens with ARam.

his .360 obp and .800+ OPS would look good at SS or 2B

I would do that if I didn't think I could get a better deal just because I would like something for Maddux since he's gone anyway.

In another thread there was a rumor mentioned about getting a top pitching and postion player prospect from LA which would be much better. Even one top prospect would be nice.

Jorge Sosa isn't anything special and is nearing 30. Langerhans looks like a 4th outfielder with his SLG%, despite the nice OBP.

Insteado Betemit, whom the Braves (once did get in trouble for signing him illegally, mind you) absolutely love. My guess is..ATL would rather trade Giles or Renteria to free up a spot, instead of moving Betemit. What I am saying is...Betemit ain't coming for anything less then say a very good young pitcher...like a Marshall or a Marmol, and I WOULDN'T do it.

How about Jarrod Saltalamacchia? I know he's struggling, but I believe this is time to buy low for Hendry, and see if you can pick him up cheap. I mean, I would do a Langerhans and Salty deal for Maddux, any which way you desire.

I really don't think the Braves absolutely love Betemit. If they did, I don't see why they would have traded for Renteria in the offseason. If they loved Betemit, they could have kept their top prospect and played Betemit at short. I think Maddux and a mid-level prospect would get it done. Besides, I'd probably give up Marshall for Betemit. Marshall is a #3 starter at best. Betemit can play every infield position and put up solid offensive numbers.

if Maddux went to the Braves and then retires..... he would have then only played for 2 teams.. throughout his career

The Freakin' Cubs... and The Hotlanta Braves

Today's Tribune is downplaying a Maddux trade, basically saying that he would have to ask to be traded and that he seem okay with just staying in Chicago the rest of the season. I love Maddux, but I was hoping to get something of value for him next week.

If the Cubs dont trade Maddux they are the stupidest organization in all of sports. He is not good. He has value. He shouldnt be brought back next year under any circumstance. He didnt seem to have any issues leaving the Cubs before. If the Cubs show him some sort of blind loyalty and not trade him for this reason it just would show how stupid of an outfit the Cubs are. Basically they wouldnt trade him because they are afraid of a little bad PR. That is just stupid and plays right into what most people really think the Cubs are about

It would not suprise me one bit, if Hendry held on to Maddux and tried to sign him to a one year $8-10M deal at the end of the season.

perhaps you should investigate the facts before coming to a conclusion. per Bruce Miles in the Herald 7/22/06 :

"Contenders may call about pitcher Greg Maddux, who does indeed have a no-trade clause in his contract, contrary to information put out previously."

How does that change his evaluation? The Cubs are playing a game of semantics. Maddux says "if they ask me I may consider waiving my NTC", Cubs say "if he asks us we will consider trading him." Maddux has made it clear that he will waive his NTC, so if all the Cubs are worried about is bad PR by asking Maddux to waive his NTC, that would be pretty pathetic.

When your a 20 below .500 team you shouldn't be worried about hurting somebody's feelings or looking bad to the media (the Cubs already do a good job at that). You should be worried about improving your team any way possible, so that next year you don't remain the laughing stock of MLB.

Keep hoping.. they see the good in keeping him here. Then even if he decides to retire as a player they can lure him into being the pitching coach.. or maybe even the manager for next year.

If that is how you feel about a future hall of famer.. you are the dumbest person I have ever seen.

Watch the personal attacks dvd......

I'd trade Maddux for just about anything, to reduce the chance that Hendry will re-sign him at the end of the year. He had a great first month of the season, but he is clearly regressing over the past three years, and the Cubs money should be better invested.

Sorry. about the personal attack.. But IMHO the should lure Maddux into retirement... and then get him to come back as pitching coach or possibly even manager

he is assuming that if the cubs dont trade maddux they are at fault but if they dont, it just might be because maddux doesnt want to go.

I think it will be 1 year and $6M (which was his 2004 salary). I'll stick to what I said in the offseason - right or wrong, Maddux will be a Cub in 2007. I'm pretty sure Hendry will bring him back to be his #4.
