Does anyone habe any inkling on who the minor leaguer might be? Or if there is one at all?

The reports I've seen haven't mentioned any minor leagures at all.

Same here. It appears the deal is Maddux + 2 million for Izturis.

I simply can't believe that. There must be something else.......right?

I like this deal. Now Hendry can try to get Tejeda this off-season, and move Izturis to 2b.

I'm going to pretend I didn't see this post. There's nothing to like about having someone on the same offensive level as Neifi playing every day. Not to mention he'll be getting paid more than Neifi to be Neifi for 2+ more years.

So basically you would of just kept Maddux, and let him walk for nothing? Izturis was a solid player in 04. .288 Average .330OBP 4hr 62RBI 25SB, not to mention the guy is excellent with the glove.

Izturis is far worse than nothing. I would have rather given Maddux away for a ziplock bag of air.

It's official: Ned Colletti has pictures of Jim Hendry in compromising positions with a farm animal.

"This trade was a baaaaaaaaaaaad idea."

See, I heard a whole different "Goat Curse" story.

Who knew?

This is a mess.

But FWIW, anyone in the Chicago area can see Hendry's live press conference on CSN. It is slated for 4pm and they are just awaiting his arrival.

Currently they have the Chicago Bandits on while they wailt for the press conference. They're better than the Cubs.

It's funny because I just went to a Dodgers forum and they are all going crazy because they think it's a terrible deal! About 90 percent of the posts I've read all think the trade was terrible for the Dodgers. They couldn't stop raving about Izz.

That says something about the level of critical thinking present on that board.

I, like Goony, would also like to take back everything I said about needing to move Maddux. I hope the commisioner's office voids the deal. It would have been 1000x better had Hendry done nothing.

so we gave away a pitcher and took on 6+ million, for nothing. less than nothing. for a guy who will hurt the chances of winning a ball game.

Just to play devil's advocate, Izturis was an All-Star in 2005, and was leading MLB in hits in June 2005 before he got hurt and his production declined.

Our GM is Jim Hendry, a man who still wants to extend Dusty and has uttered that he likes guys who catch the ball. What do you think?

How much do you think Handry would pay me a year to run around kicking Cubs' fans in the balls? It seems 2 mil is about right.

The official press release is up on the front page. Here's the body:

The Chicago Cubs today acquired Gold Glove infielder Cesar Izturis from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Greg Maddux.

Izturis, 26, owns a .979 career fielding percentage (2632 TC/54 E) in 630 games, including a .989 mark (185 TC/2 E) at second base and a .980 mark (2357 TC/48 E) in 559 games at shortstop. He won the Rawlings Gold Glove award in 2004, logging a .985 fielding percentage (674 TC/10 E) as the Dodgers everyday shortstop.

Izturis was named to the 2005 National League All-Star team thanks in part to his club-record 75 hits over the first two months of the season. His year was cut short with degenerative arthritis in his right elbow, which required season-ending Tommy John surgery on September 16.

This season, the switch-hitter has batted .252 (30-for-119) with seven doubles and 12 RBI in 32 games after returning from the 60-day disabled list on June 20. He has seen action at second base, third base and shortstop this season.

Maddux, 40, is 9-11 with a 4.69 ERA (71 ER/136.1 IP) in 22 starts this season. He ranks in the top-10 in numerous Cubs franchise records, including fourth with 1,305 strikeouts and fifth with 298 starts, while his 133 victories ranks 13th.

Maddux signed with Chicago as a free agent prior to the 2004 season, rejoining the club he had left after the 1992 season. He’s compiled a 38-37 record with a 4.26 ERA (272 ER/574.0 IP) in 90 starts since his return. For his career, Maddux is 327-200 with a 3.06 ERA in 665 career games (661 starts) over 21 Major League seasons. His 327 career wins rank 12th in Major League history.

Since I live in Florida, I may have to start watching the Marlins because they have a clue about getting young players and developing them into solid Major Leaguers. And they occasionally win a series or two.

It's not like Maddux has been a stud this or anything....

Seriously what did we expect to get for Maddux and Walker?

no salary in return. no crap players taking up roster spots in return.

Dude obviously just needs a change of scenery.

Has Hendry met an injury-ruined player he doesn't like? He probably thinks Lee is better now than ever before since his wrist has all the power of a little girl's.

He's a slick fielding SS with no power and doesn't take any walks.

I said it before, we already have two of those guys in Cedeno and Neifi. Why in the blue hell do the Cubs need another who's owed $4.15m next season?!

Tell me, TELL me that Bruce Miles and the rest of the beat guys are going to rip this to pieces, and not just focus on the "HOF leaves Chicago" crap. Tell me that they won't try and spin the Gold Glove Izturis won, and that his 2004 was a good season.

Tell me that someone will call him out.
