Cubs package Cedeno in a deal with other players for a top pitcher or hitter in the offseason. They'll have the depth at 2B/SS with guys like Fontenot, Theriot, Izturis, and Neifi able to play there. Cedeno has the highest ceiling of the four and might be able to attract some interest from a team looking to add cheap middle infield help.

You are wrong. Best case scenario is Cubs package Cedeno, and Murton, for a better fielding left fielder than Murton.

That's pretty much my scenario, actually.

I remember back after the playoffs in 03, some commentators wise-cracked that the playoff loss works out for the Cubs because they would lose their lovable loser mystique if the won, and that's their biggest selling point.

you think Hendry thinks that too?

I really think this fore shadows Dusty's resigning. it's just his sort of guy.

2006 Chicago Cubs - leaders in untalented redundancy.

Soriano and Nevin didn't move.

Just goes to show how bad the Cubs are. No one in the entire league wanted our starting 2B/1B or our #4 starter. They combined netted an A ball prospect and a SS with a bad limb and no stick. The rest of the year will be awful. At least this opens a rotation spot for Hill/Guzman unless Rusch starts.........

Soriano plays for the Cubs?

??

Where did I say that? Merely pointing out that all of the Soriano talk was just that. Supposedly the WSox had him and it was "almost complete". I guess there could be waiver deals....

My point about 2/9ths of the team stands.

Don't have time to sift through all of the posts here - and I also don't need to exponentially increase my anger at this moment by re-processing what just happened - but has there been any announcement on how we are going to account for another pitcher entering into the rotation? Is Fatass back in now?

Rusch.

Seriously.

I know this is a family-oriented board so I'll just leave it at this:

Alright there has to be some light at the end of this tunnel doesn't there? Okay, probably not but I'll try to spin this into the best case scenario. Let me preface this by saying I absolutely hate the deal.

Izturis will be 27 next year and playing in a contract year. As we all know age 27 is often a breakout or peak year and we know that players sometimes tend to play over their career norms in a contract year.

In '04 Izturis hit .288/.330/.381. Pre AS break '05 he hit .275/.322/.338 when he was healthy.

So as horrible as he's been offensively in his career if he gets back to '04 levels he's at least average as a SS. There's a slight possiblity that he could exceed that given his age and contract status.

I know, it stinks. Let's just hope it works out for the best somehow or he suddenly has a Barrett-like resurgance.

Or let's hope he hit .100 the rest of this season and Hendry gets fired.

There will be no top hitter involved.

I don't know how the rotation falls right now other than Prior pitching tonight but Hendry did say that Rusch would be ready for Thursday's game but he also mentioned that somebody would be called up for tomorrow's game to start.

Steve Stone on the Score670 believes this is a good move.

He believes it's good to get Izturis a good glove who is locked up contract wise.

Also, he says it is better than if the Cubs would have signed Furcal at the money the Cubs offered in the off season.

I think maybe I'm going to start watching the Twins. Seriously.

I'd give my left kidney for Hendry to choke on any one of the dozen donuts he'll cram down his piehole tomorrow morning.

Finally got a bit of a laugh out of this: LINK

14. Bunch of idiots on here. Maddux is done and the Cubs got one of the best fielding shortstops in the league for him. What good was keeping Maddux during this train wreck of a season?

8. Hey Paul, you're holding the book upside down: Izturis is not one of the top defensive shortstops in baseball. He's a shockingly average shortstop who can't hit.

That's because Stone said we should have traded Ramirez for Izturis.

Stone must've beat Hendry to the bar.
