Only the Cubs, Pierre lifetime .350 OBP to .270 OBP, I'm convinced that if Pujols became a Cub tomorrow he'd end up hitting .280. Name another team in Baseball which has 9 of every 10 trades implode in such a manner.

Well, Hendry ignored Pierre's atrocious 2005 and now it's biting the Cubs in the behind. It's hard to ignore .276/.326/.354. And he had an even worse OPS in 2002 with the Rockies. Pierre was anything but a sure bet.

On the plus side, he's actually been good on the base paths.

If Hendry had ignored Patterson's 2005 numbers he would have been vilified even more than ignoring Pierre's 2005. Pierre was a better bet than Patterson for the Cubs in 2006 and folks are telling tales if they say otherwise.

I would have liked to keep Patterson under different circumstances (namely with a different coaching staff). If that change had been made, they would have been better able to upgrade one of the corner spots. The Pierre trade cost them 3 pitchers/trading chips. But since that change wasn't made, I didn't mind the move as much. Patterson wasn't going to succeed with this coaching staff.

Pierre may have been a better bet, but he cost a lot more and wasn't likely to help the team out much.

Patterson is a FA after this season isn't he?

So who do we sign for CF, Pierre or Patterson?

Nobody, because Pie should be ready (and if we keep imploding, he'll get some major time this year).

The easiest way to upgrade the offense would be a better corner outfielder and getting someone who mauls lefties to platoon with Jacque Jones. We've got the money to spend on it.

is there any way we can blame patterson for '06? i know he used to get most of the blame when he was here, so my instincts tell me that he's to blame for this mess.

No, he's a FA after next year.

Like it matters after what the fans and team did to Corey I doubt any amount of money would bring him back here. Lets just be happy he found a home and hope that he keeps it up.

Another homer for Corey, his 6th on the year. He's 2-4 on the day, with 2 runs, 2 rbis and another stolen base, his 18th.

Plus he leaped and brought back a potential HR that would have tied the game with 2 out in the 9th.

just trying to get on the highlights

I bet he never would have done that at Wrigley.

he would have been too busy denying autographs to children.

Nah, he just didn't care enough to jump. And he's short, too. Short guys can't hit home runs and they shouldn't even try.

I was watching the Cubs game tonight and kept switching over to the O's game on EI, telling my dad about how well Corey's been doing. Sure enough, the first at bat I actually make him watch, Corey hits that 2nd HR. We've officially retired the "c-patt" nickname around the house for the time being. Good for him!

This thread depresses me:

Especially this post:

In his post game interview I actually think he has it figured out. He said I am bunting and working for walks so I get to see more fastballs. he also said that teams will KNOW that if I get on I'm stealing a base. For all the critizism for the O's hitting coach I think someone has made patterson see the light. Somehow he has learned that if he bunts and gets ahead in the count pitcher will challenge him to keep him off the bases.

We already have Matt Murton.

Good for Corey. I'm still a Patterson fan and wish him well with the O's. Was always a nice guy the 2-3 times I met him in Denver.
