i couldn't find the other thread about how much better corey is than pierre, so i thought i'd start a new one.

3-3 (two doubles, homerun) tonight brings him to .306 on the year (.342ish OBP). 11 hits in his last five games. 13 stolen bases (in 14 attempts).

He's 3 for 3 tonight and has raised his average to .306 and his OPS to .846. Meanwhile, Pierre's average is down to .235 and his OPS is at a staggering .564. Way to go, Cubs!

i hate the change of scenery claim. it gets so overblown b/c when a guy goes to a new place and revives his career it gets all kinds of pub. the thousand other times when a struggling player goes to a new team and continues to suck, you don't hear anything about it.

if this doesn't tell the organization that there are serious problems i don't know what will.

how many knees to that special place can we take?

I really hope he has an amazing year and at some point the national media says "jim hendry, you are an outstanding moron"

for being so outstanding at being a moron, we would like to give you an award: an extraordinary kick to the curb!

pierre is much better than corey - how come you didn't post how many ks each has?

Because K's isnt a big deal when you are getting on base at such a high rate. (see, adam dunn. 54 K's .380+ OBP)

Or hell, in this case, see corey patterson:

2 more k's, seventy more points of OBP.

You have to admit, there were certainly extenuating circumstances in Corey's case. He is/was one of the toolsiest players in the game, with a coaching staff that couldn't coach him to make a PB&J correctly.

Dusty: "Alright kid, now put some more peanut butter on that thing."

Corey: "Sure thing, but shouldn't I be putting some jam on this?"

Dusty: "And clog up the sandwich? Are you crazy?"

THere's no reason to be anything but happy for Corey.

There's no way to determine if he'd have the same stats with the Cubs. I'd say he wouldn't.

I have a sneaky feeling that the O's have given him one job and let him sink or swim, whereas the Cubs had him hit leadoff one day, 5th one day, bitch at him for hitting homers, ask him to bunt more, ask him to bunt less, and generally jerk him around.

Heck, if Corey would have stayed, he'd have received a chorus of boos on opening day. That's not a good situation for a guy.

I'm just glad he's been able to turn it around, regardless of the situation. I wish it would have worked out for he and the cubs, but it didn't.

I agree with many on this board ---many of corey's troubles can be laid squarely on the shoulders of the inept cub coaching staff.

i think patterson is just going thru a spell of a lot of good bounces.

Yes, because he cant possibly be *gasp* good. And 2003 HAD to be a fluke.

I know sunnydoo just made a nice Corey "dig" today too...something about how a Pie callup won't happen until September because of the Cpatt disaster...

Maybe the Cubs are the disaster...not Cpatt.

Huh? Why does anyone want to hear about a player sucking? Why should that be publicized? A player reviving his career, OTH, is actually news.

you don't think that a player, specifically one of patterson's breed, can go to a new team with a different coaching staff/approach and do better? that's essentially a change of scenery.

What is it with this coaching staff? I remember when he had no clue how to steal a base here. Now, he's stolen in 13 out of 14 attempts. He's hitting .300, and only has 19 or whatever k's on the year.

I hope they dont do to murton what they did to Patterson. Sadly though, they probably will.

K's are overblown anyway. Jason Giambi tends to K more than the average MLB'er, because he'd rather take a pitch he can't do much with than pop up or something. He also gets on base at an incredibly high clip, so I think we can absolve him for it.

And while this is a small point, sometimes K'ing is better than hitting into a double play. Solid contact > weak swing. (Many of Dunn's and Giambi's strike outs are called, thus they take marginal pitches. They rarely K swinging)

Now when a player strikes out a lot, barely makes contact (like Corey was *ahem* known to do) and can't seem to differentiate between a ball at his eyes and a ball at his knees...then we got a problem.
