When all is said and done Hendry's last offseason could be one of the Cubs' alltime worst, the type of offseason that people still talk about 10 or 15 years later. Still too early to make that call, but preliminary indications are pretty bad for Jim.

Me and my friends were high-fiving about our off-season earlier in the year.

We were so innocent then...

I'm not sure if you're being serious....but if you are, what exactly was it that got you excited?

.306/.358

Sure would be nice to see that in our CF. I wonder if how the difference in organizational philsophies has made a change for Corey would be a good topic for an article for our friendly neighborhood Clark Kent (aka: Bruce)

Playing in Baltimore ought to be every player's dream...beautiful park and laid back fans. Sure, the occasional idiot will throw cork at me and my Sammy sign (uhm, hypothetically speaking) but there's very rarely any booing. Heck, if you can love Brady Anderson, you can love anyone.

For Corey "Its Just a Game" Patterson, thats probably the place where he can excel.

I've heard good things about the manager from a friend (and Cubs' fan) that lives in Baltimore. His waiver wire pickup of Patterson has him killing me in our fantasy league.

And if anyone wants to look up the stats...

Only the Cubs, Pierre lifetime .350 OBP to .270 OBP, I'm convinced that if Pujols became a Cub tomorrow he'd end up hitting .280. Name another team in Baseball which has 9 of every 10 trades implode in such a manner.

He didn't actually say "it's just a game." That was a misquote.

Fair enough...but the point remains the same. A laid back, young, player that can't handle getting booed is a bad fit for a big-market team like the Cubs.

Well, Hendry ignored Pierre's atrocious 2005 and now it's biting the Cubs in the behind. It's hard to ignore .276/.326/.354. And he had an even worse OPS in 2002 with the Rockies. Pierre was anything but a sure bet.

On the plus side, he's actually been good on the base paths.

The ironic point is the .276/.326/.354 line would look pretty good right about now, too bad Pierre not even going sniff such numbers this season.

I looked at CPATT stats this morning and I was blown away! Batting .306 18 RBI's and 15 SB. And his OBP was .356! Cubs have no coaching what-so-ever!

Patterson's VORP 14.3 (6th in MLB for CF)

Pierre's VORP -5.3 (48th in MLB for CF)

[Nolasco + Mitre, offense only VORP 2.3]

But, he's (Pierre) such a hard worker, misquoted or not to him, Baseball will never be just a game.

I don't care what they say (and what their personalities are), I just want the better player.

I can't wait to see Pierre a goner. He has been so pathetic that I don't even want to see him playing on this team anymore. I hope he gets traded ASAP. Hendry and Baker got their guy and it bit them on the behind. Sinking ship..

EDIT: Good thing Pierre's agents were asking for too much during the offseason. Could you imagine us signing pierre to 8mil per for 3 years? That would have been a HUGE disaster.

He's great deadline fodder.

If Hendry had ignored Patterson's 2005 numbers he would have been vilified even more than ignoring Pierre's 2005. Pierre was a better bet than Patterson for the Cubs in 2006 and folks are telling tales if they say otherwise.

Why are they telling tales? I wanted Patterson over Pierre forever.
