Team leader though.  Great clubhouse guy.  Just a lousy hitter.

. 764 OPS vs LHP before tonight.

If the bats dont heat up in September, im going to feel really tepid about October. This is just not good enough.

Anything can happen in the playoffs.  Like, I could win the powerball.

Dansby has a .856 OPS against lefties before tonight and batted 7th.

Shaw has a .782 OPS against lefties before tonight and batted 8th.

I'm sure part of the reaction is because he hit into a double play and if either Dansby or Shaw done the same thing, people would be complaining about that too. Hindsight is always 20-20. And really, that's not what cost us the game anyway. But there isn't really a justification to bat Turner 4th at this point, though having said that he probably doesn't bat lower than 6th against lefties anyway so whatever.

Maybe Counsell figured he has a ton of experience hitting at this ballpark and that gave him an edge?  I dunno.  Other than that i agree it's odd.

Yes the Giants bad offense trouncing the Cubs pitching is rough but the 5 total runs of offense in games started by pitchers with ERAs of 4.64 and 5.01 is more bothersome to me.

When Busch, Seiya, PCA turn back the clock to mid July on an 850+ OPS pace with 30-40+ home-run pop, shattering their 2025 projections, we’re back. Need I mention Tucker?

Can’t wait too much longer though.

Win because we’re the best team at 59-39 has a better ring to it than just get hot at the right time, doesn’t it.

When you bench Happ vs a left handed pitcher, pick your poison. What I want to see is Kelly and Hsaw swapped. A rookie Shaw projects to be a more productive bat than Carson Kelly, a guy with a career 92 OPS+ and is looking every part of it over the last few months.

Counsell waited until late May to move PCA up in the order and the last game before the all star break to move Happ out of the leadoff spot, and he’ll wait another another week+ of the offense scoring at a 3 runs/game clip before making a change,

Y’all are going to really be mad when we lose 2 of 3 to the Rockies.

Yeah, this last month is going to be annoying.  Just focus on the #4 seed and get hot before the playoffs

I watched all of that. What am I doing with my life?

You are tougher than me. I turned it off after the first inning. Bases loaded with 1 out and no runs scored followed by a Devers HR is all it took for me to know what was going to happen in this game.

There are plenty of reasons to hate Carson Kelly batting directly behind some of the better hitters in the line up. My biggest pet peeve about that is his ability to make two outs at a time so well. I'd rather he bat first than be in the position of doubling up one of Tucker or Seiya time and again. He's just not going to beat out a double play grounder. It's setting the lineup up for failure.

Considering the Giants just took 2 of 3 from Milwaukee, I'm not exactly surprised at how this series is going so far.

wait, does that mean the brewers are terrible too? i mean, the cubs are coming off a road sweep and the brewers were coming off a road series loss, so if losing two games to the giants (and they were at home too!) is some season defining event, surely we can cross them off the list of contenders as well

They did sweep the Rockies (at Wrigley) earlier this season.

I need to take UMFan's perspective. In almost all regards, the season is already over. It's damn near impossible for them to catch the Brewers and it's damn near impossible for the Reds to catch them. Which makes the rest of the season more or less an exercise in making sure people are healthy, playing well, and you're prepared for the playoffs.

Reach a zen status and not worry about individual wins or losses. Unless they do something really stupid and lose like 10 in a row or something.

The offense wasn't completely broken back then

Man what happened to all these studs post all star? I thought for sure Seiya and PCA would’ve gotten to 40+ homers.

I do remember like 4-6 weeks ago realizing that the Cubs haven't had a 30 HR guy since Schwarber (and KB) in 2019, which seemed shocking to me, and a little emblematic of how the offense had been just somewhat above average hitters without any elite talent for the last few years. And at the time Seiya and PCA seemed like locks, and Busch and Tucker were at least 50/50. Now...man. I assume those two will still get there, but the fact that they haven't yet is pretty depressing.
