I am way more concerned about losing out on Tucker than I am Kelly. I just have a bad feeling Jed isn’t going to get this one over the line. I feel like if Bregman goes to the Yankees then the Astros have enough money to sign Tucker. Besides that, the Bellinger interest fades. If he does sign with the Astros, the Yankees have motivation to trade for Tucker. And probably become a better fit with a better pitcher headlining the deal. Besides that, now Parades is not as desirable to the Astros. I just don’t like Jed’s chances here. And if this falls flat I am not sure what else they can do.

Now, there's really no other way to interpret the Seiya and Paredes part there, other than they want both. You would think by now there would be a OR delineation. What the horsefeathers Astros?

I mean, they can "like" or "ask" whatever they want. And Tucker is one of the best OF in the game. But the Soto deal last offseason was a good, young starting pitcher and some good but not elite prospects (you could argue Higashioka for Grisham was a wash). So something like Paredes and/or Seiya and Horton and Caissie along with a lesser prospect or two should get it done.

It's Jon Heyman, so you can always fall back on one of two things;

1. He's also not understanding the original Rosenthal report.

2. He's being used by a team (like the Astros) to put extra public pressure on the Cubs.

It might be what they want. But I kind of lean #2. As the team's round 3rd here, the Astros want to put the screws on just a bit more knowing this is likely getting done.

I don't really mind getting rid of Seiya or Paredes in a deal, but both of them plus either Shaw or Smith might be too much for even me who is desperate to get an elite bat and very open to trading prospects.  If it came with an agreed upon extension I'd strongly consider it but for a 1 year player, thats too rich.

You're talking about trading 7 fWAR from last year's roster plus a top 25 in baseball prospect.  You're gonna have to go down a tier of prospects or drop Seiya or Paredes from the trade.

No clue if this guy is legit or not -

I believe he's connected to the baseball industry but I have no idea what his credentials as a reporter are.  Seems to be throwing a lot of rumors out there this week

As I said before, if you trade Seiya and Paredes, whatever you gain in RF you're now losing almost all of it at 3B. Let alone throwing a top prospect on top of that for one damn year of Tucker.

lol - They're not asking the Cubs for Paredes and Seiya and Cam, while the only ask we've heard from the Yankees is "Gil"

He's got some legit followers. Eno Saris, Jim Passan, Paul Sporer, Marc Craig and a bunch of others. Usually guys with those followers don't tweet garbage.

If the package is anything close to that, Jed should be fired on the spot and banned from ever working in another FO

Why pay Soto 760M when you can give Tucker 500M, your best hitter who is under control for 3 more seasons, a top 10 3B under control for 3 more seasons and an MLB ready top 50 prospect.

If they are firm with that offer there won't be a trade. But really, it seems preposterous and not real.

Easy choice for me. Keep Shaw and trade Smith. Shaw is closer and they need someone this year. I do acknowledge this opinion could come back to bite me. .

I'm in the "trade more expensive guys closer to FA and keep the stud prospects" camp.  Tucker would obviously be amazing but if its for a year then its tough.  For me Seiya, Belli, Nico are on the table, potentially Happ, Triantos and anyone below him in the rankings not named Cam Smith.  If that's not to Houston's liking maybe a 3rd team can get the Astros what they want.

If I had to posit a guess here, I'd guess this is a bit of a "Mexican Standoff" for a lack of a better term as the team's await Bregman and they both want this done on their terms.

If Bregman choses the Yankees, then the Cubs deal headlined with Parades is probably the best looking on the table. If it's that he stays, I'd guess the Yankees offering Gil might be more attractive. Or I'd assume the Astros are framing it that way.

So you have Houston demanding the premium to do it before the decision and the Cubs holding off from that and/or trying to suggest they'd lower their offer if he went to the Yankees.

Idk. Just a guess here.

I said it before if the Yanks win this race they will likely do it with a surprising package. They have some other intriguing ML talent they could offer and just dip back into FA to backfill.
