If I'm taking on Pressly and giving Paredes, I think the 2nd piece needs to be below the Alcantara/Caissie/Ballesteros level.  Triantos sure, Rojas I'm open to it, but I'd just as soon send that package without Pressly.

If the Astros say they won't do it without him then Happy Gilmore's caddy can start looking for houses in Houston

It is not likely to be Suzuki. As many rumors as there are out there talking about the Cubs listening to offers for Suzuki, there are just as many saying while they are listening, it's highly unlikely.

Yeah the Suzuki talk seems to be more like, hey he's available if you blow us away, otherwise he's on this roster opening day.

Carter out there talking about going from 85 wins to 87 wins. Nice to know 90 isn't the bar any more.

There are so many things you could legitimately complain about with the front office, why do you have to invent bad faith arguments

In no way was he saying that was the bar. He was simply explaining why there's more value/need/justification with adding a player that moves you from 85 to 87 wins vs adding a player that moves you from 75 to 77 wins.

AKA a Kyle Tucker trade doesn't make sense if they were a 75 win team. He makes complete sense being around an 85 projected team and the additional wins he adds helps get over the hump.

I mean, you can take it how you want. He could have said everything he did without throwing specific numbers by saying the team is in a position to make a push for the WS. Instead his entire statement was built on teetering on making or not making the playoffs. That's the ideology this FO has lived by the entire times, squeaking in.

Not a big fan of the Phillies throwing their name in the hat. They could offer up Bohm+. And they operate more in a lets push it across the line fashion.

Eh. Alec Bohm is just Paredes without the track record, one less year of control, and much worse batted ball profile for that field. FO is a little more brash, but we've still got more/better bullets.

True. 3B is such a wasteland right now and giving up our starter AND a promising bat for 1 year is a lot. Id probably still do it though since its Kyle Tucker

There is a new draft every year. Did you know who Cam Smith was this time last year?

I've not really been on the Alonso train, but just curious what everyone's thoughts would be on this hypothetical scenario if Suzuki ends up being the one moved for Tucker:

- Suzuki framework for Tucker

- Bellinger traded for prospects/pieces with little to no added money coming back

- Alonso signed with Bellinger's money

- Prospects for cost controlled SP

That's a scenario that leaves us with basically no holes (Keeps 2b/3b intact). We lose Suzuki and his extra year of control for the better player in Tucker. Alonso gives us the RH slug bat we've been lacking and can flip flop between 1b/DH with Busch depending on matchups. The negatives are obviously if Tucker walks, we miss out on a year of Suzuki and Alonso is 30 with his numbers declining the previous two years.

I wonder how viable Tucker is viewed in CF, especially Wrigley's tiny CF.  He had a terrible defensive 2023 but has otherwise been a +10-15 RF.  Knowing that there is a certain amount of ego management that needs to be done, I wonder if we could do something like this?

Suzuki - 100 games in RF, 50 at DH

Tucker - 60 games in RF, 40 at 1B, 30 at DH, 20 at CF

Busch - 120 games at 1B, 10 at 2B/3B, 10 at DH

He's also has no major splits. He could very conceivably spell PCA against tough lefties.

I haven’t gotten much intel in a long while but I did hear some stuff today on our Cubbies.

Not that it is surprising but they will be reducing payroll this year.  Also the they whacked a bunch of scouts and moved a bunch of people around this offseason.  Also capped hotels for amateur scouts at 120 bucks.  Good luck this spring fellas.
