What does the full tweet say?

"Yesterday, it was agent Joel Wolfe talking about Seiya Suzuki and the Cubs keeping him informed of interested teams. Today, Cody Bellinger's agent, Scott Boras, addressed the situation: “Jed told us they have some roster configurations they are going to examine. That’s really all they’ve said to us. “It’s always nice when teams want you. Cody and I have been talking a lot about it. Whenever a player is in this situation, there’s always an expectancy (to be traded) and we also know where Cody is at in his career, where his contract is, I think he has to go to a very competitive team, if it happens and if he stays in Chicago, it’s a place he’s very welcome.” I asked GM Carter Hawkins yesterday if this simply comes down to having 2 players for one position (RF). (I think they want to keep DH open for a rotation). He didn't dismiss the notion."

Id be hesistant to give up both Parades and Smith for just one year. Id want an extension in place.

The trade and the extension are two different things. There's almost no way the Cubs and Tucker will agree on a $400m extension before the trade happens. That's an insane timeline.

Maybe they can figure out one by OD.

No one has said both. They named 3 players the Astros are targeting in Parades, Suzuki, and Smith. That doesnt mean they are all included.

Probably a nothing burger here and just standard Cubs due diligence, but it has been reported that Alonso doesn't have much of a market right now...

I'll be honest, this latest Rosenthal article has tipped my brain into this being more likely than not.  I'm telling it no but this feels like it has the juice.

I must be thinking about this wrong, but you're basically saying that if you're going to give up that much talent, you also want to give up an additional $20m for 2025 (to Tucker) plus his future production (at market rates).

Trade for his 2025, figure out the rest after that.

I agree. This feels like this is tipping to "I think it'll happen"

True. 3B is such a wasteland right now and giving up our starter AND a promising bat for 1 year is a lot. Id probably still do it though since its Kyle Tucker

Probably because he just had a bad year and is asking to smash Freemans contract. He'll probably end up like Bellinger in the end, signing someone short term heavy on the opt outs deal.

Once they trade Paredes for Tucker, sign Bregman for 3B. Trade Bellinger to open up some cash 🙂

No on Bregman.

As always Greg thinking things through thoroughly

Interesting that he lines out a 50-100 prospect and mock trades Caissie.

Exactly why I posted it. If it got to that point (Short term with opt-outs), that's right up the Cubs alley if Tucker/etc doesn't happen.

Except that Alonso has no spot in the lineup currently.

If they don't land Tucker and trade Bellinger he does. As I said though, it's most likely a nothing burger but IF Alonso's market falls enough where he's doing a short term deal with opt-outs, that's when the Cubs would get involved. I don't believe it happens though

Suzuki threw a wrench in Hoyer's plans, he was focused on moving Bellinger and his money 27 mil, now it likely going to be Suzuki and his 19 mil.

That could be 8 mil less to spend and different players in return now.

It is not likely to be Suzuki. As many rumors as there are out there talking about the Cubs listening to offers for Suzuki, there are just as many saying while they are listening, it's highly unlikely. Even the article talking about the Astros targeting Suzuki in a Tucker deal splashes cold water on the deal by saying it's likely off the table.
