Ohio. We have PIT vs ATL

Bummer. Ohio is a pretty state though. I have been all over the state for various reasons.

Reserved a table at this place near me that is supposed to resemble a "Wisconsin fishing bar" because that's very much my Dad's vibe. I called to make sure they will have the Bears game on. They will, but they weren't sure if the sound would be on. They have like 8 TVs in a smaller venue, but they might not have the sound on? It's noon on a Sunday at a bar, what could possibly be going on that would make it so that they can't have the sound on? I'm not sure if I should find a new place or not because it still seems like that can't possibly be right and I'm trying to keep it to a small venue where there's not a couple hundred people going nuts. By the way, if anyone has been here, opinions are appreciated

I have not but that seems like a cool place. I would have to imagine they have the sound on and disabled any jukebox or whatever some idiot might play. You could go to Rookies in St Charles, but Im sure it will be packed. They will have the sound on.

The bears have been a national laughingstock for so long the networks aren’t going to count on them as a ratings driver until they prove it on the field.

They’ve played so many unwatchable games this decade

They have been on prime time too many times while still being a laughingstock. They are a huge draw even when they are garbage

Rookies, Flagship on the Fox, etc. will all be super packed and I'm kind of aiming for the vibe of, I can hear the TV but still actually hold a conversation with my Dad.

1OA wtf.

1.1 if you insist on using the least amount of keystrokes I guess.

I swear to god this exact conversation happened about 6 months ago, like a month before the draft. People going on for a couple pages about what the #1 overall pick should be called.

You presumably have a keyboard and aren't a teenage girl. Just type "first overall".

You used that moronic shorthand in a post that was 8 paragraphs long and didn’t say anything

It did get a bit rambly

Bullet points;

Modern I0Ã qbs are usually pretty good, offense should be pretty good

Defense might have been overrated late last year but has a chance to grow into reputation

Beyond its being adequate really don't care about the defense.  Give me, us, Chicago a real NFL offense, offense, offense, offense.

"Future Hall of Famer" is my hope, for the record.

I’m actually fully expecting the Bears D to regress slightly. (Which I don’t care all that much about)

Basically the only dependable thing you can do as a defense is get a good pass rush, and unless we see some big strides from some of our young DTackles (eminently possible!) or something surprising from the collection of non-Sweat D-Ends we’re likely not gonna have an elite pass rush. It doesn’t matter how good your coverage is in lieu of that. Mediocre to good QBs will beat it.

Bears D in 2023 was maybe the best you could possibly hope for with one half of a season of one guy who can rush the passer. And we faced a whole lot of bums.

but also none of that matters to me at all in comparison to seeing a professional offense for once in my goddamn life

Saw someone on Twitter who was reposting every year the #1 pick record versus the league. It's 0-14-1

Can Caleb and the Bears break this streak??

I saw this too. It goes as far back as 2002, so I'm assuming they had a better record before that, but their point is not one has won their first game. Most of these QB's are getting drafted by the worst team in the league for that year, and expecting that QB to somehow turn everything around on day one seems like it tough task. Anyway, to the other poster asking who tied, it was Kyler Murray.

I wouldn't expect a huge improvement, but I did like what I saw last year. What I found odd was Eberflus or the DC had the Bears blitzing a lot in the preseason. Way, way, way more than last year in any game. If they do that more, then I would say we will see improvement, because I think they have the talent to pull off some blitzing schemes with success. What seemed odd to me was that they were employing so many blitzes in the preseason. It was taking place so often that you have to assume it's a policy change in Eberflus' defense. The Bears are facing some of the worst QB's in the league this year, so maybe they plan to implement more blitzes to force more turnovers. Can that be remotely tied to trying to create better field position and build confidence in the rookie QB?

Absolutely. None of those QB's have the talent around them that Williams. does. Which is why you really can not compare Caleb's situation with those other 1.1 picks. Not only do I expect the Bears to win Caleb's debut, I expect them to win at least 9 games.

I'm completely with Kyle. If we see signficant forward progress from our 2nd and 3rd year defensive players then I can see the defense matching the budding reputation. If they are just largely JAGs, I can see them being just average. And that can significantly alter the entire team outlook. Guys like Gordon, Brisker, Dexter - if they turn in good seasons, the defense should be stout,

The offense could easily get upended by the OL. Wright needs to be an absolute stud, IMO. There's more dynamic players than we've had since the early Trestman days but if Davis and Jenkins can't stay on the field,  Wright is mediocre, etc., then it will be tough sledding. Pass pro has me on edge. Poles' bread-and-butter was supposed to be the trenches and I would say that is where I am the most concerned on both sides of the ball.

My prediction is 12 wins. A split with Det and GB, losses to Hou and San Fran and then one more loss among the following games: Indy/Jax/Sea/LAR. Not because any of those teams are better than the Bears, IMO, but because it's tough to win every winnable game.

this game is really setting up to be a disappointment. 4.5 point favorites at home to a team that probably wasn’t as bad as it’s record indicated last season. The bears defense was awful against competent QBs, and it’s entirely possible Levis is competent in his second year.
Chicago could look bad and lose this game but still have a solid season.
