The Cardinals won today, but that snapped a 7 game losing streak and they are already 8 games out of the division and have the 3rd worst record in the NL.  Marmol got ejected today after *winning* a challenge by screaming 'don't look at me' at the umpire from the dugout:

Goldschmidt hit a HR today that raised his OPS to about .550.  Their pop up hitters(Nootbaar, Donovan) and high pedigree prospects(Walker, Gorman) have all faceplanted.  Contreras was killing the ball but he broke his arm after they made him move forward to compensate for his framing deficiencies.  Their 'be the 2023 Mets with one third of the talent' approach to the rotation has had predictable results(24th in SP WAR).  Jordan Hicks and Jack Flaherty escaped their pitching development and immediately became good again.  Things are getting dire quickly.

They’ve got 4 players with an OPS over .700.

Contreras is at .950 but is out for 6-8 weeks.

Matt Carpenter is at .757 but he’s at 20 PAs for the year.

Arenado and Ivan Herrera are at .703.

Their team OPS before today was .633, ahead of only the Marlins and White Sox.

I just assumed that without Michael Busch in the lineup today this title meant he was on the IL

I thought it was about Mike also when I opened the thread. But about his struggles (.180/.255/.340 & 44% K rate over his last 15) and not an injury.

It's legitimately weird that after years - decades, really - of seemingly one stupid thing after another working out for St. Louis that all of a sudden nothing is working for them at all.

To be clear, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. It's just weird.

We've correctly been conditioned to not count the Cardinals out until you see the life leave their eyes, but man this really feels like it's going to stick until Mozeliak gets canned.

Marlins proceeded to trade Gallen for Jazz Chishom Jr. why?

for a while Marlins have had a much richer supply of pitching than everyday players, so i have to assume that was a driving impetus for that move

and it could have been easily excused if they had ever been able to keep more than 2 of Alcantara/Perez/Meyer/Luzardo/Garrett/Cabrera/Rogers intact at any particular time

He's just so damned arrogant and condescending.  It's a miracle it hasn't bitten him in the ass before now.  It's also patently obvious from the way the Shildt firing was handled that Oli is nothing more than a yes man for him.  I really think his arrogance and the "Cardinal Way" BS that whole franchise has bought into has completely handicapped them when it comes to adapting to change and some of the new technology and strategy in the game and it's manifesting in their inability to develop young players or rehab older guys like they had been able to do very regularly until the last couple years.  The level of discontent with the franchise right now is incredibly high and unfortunately for the fans, I don't think it's changing anytime soon.

I have been to 2 Cardinal games this year because I was close and got really nice tickets cheap.  Neither game was close to a sell out, but they were weeknight games.  Fans are very disgruntled with management.  The Cardinals have built a very strong fan base thru the years for being a well run franchise.  They are a mid market team that can easily slip to being a small market franchise if they do not fix the problems soon.

For the record, them instantly reverting back to supernatural Satan mode after that article came out was pretty predictable, so much so that I should've known better than to make my initial comment in this thread.

After games played on May 12, the day this wonderful topic was created, the Cubs were 24-17.  They are 4-12 since.

Meanwhile, the Cards were 16-24 on May 12.  Since then, they've gone 11-3.

Good times.

I actually predicted pretty damn close to this happening before we faced the Pirates the first time. I said by the time we face the Cardinals we could be 500 and right with them in the standings.

Cubs since  the start of this thread playing .333 ball, record of a robust 14-28.

Cards 25-15 in same time period, about to go 26-15.

The Cardinals aren’t leading the division, but their earlier demise has been greatly exaggerated,.
